Victorious should not have been made for kids. All of the sex jokes especially the way they over sexualized Arianna when she was a underage TEENAGER was really disturbing and not appropriate for kids. I was a teen when Victorious came out. I stopped watching Disney at that point but I still was watching iCarly and Victorious.

Dani was in a horrible mindset and the cult took advantage of that and only encouraged the problems happening between her and Christian leading to his death without any repercussions faced by the women that raped him. men sexually harassing/abusing/assaulting women isnt taken seriously. men being sexually harassed/abused/assaulted also isnt taken seriously, but in some different ways. ppl think it's not possible for a woman to have power over a man (let alone abuse this power), that men are naturally superior. that any man who is abused is "letting" himself be abused, bc men are supposed to naturally dominate women. the way predatory/abusive women is treated like a joke makes me think about how I see so many tiktoks where a guy literally just says a girl's name (like "oh and jessica was there) & his girlfriend is immediately suspicious & acting like he's cheating on her. I remember one where someone was recording her roommate scream at and physically assault her boyfriend (literally punching him on the back, he wasnt even facing her). and it's treated like "omg so awkwardd😐😅😂"

Robbie and Adrian have the same problems. They both present themselves as socially awkward “nice guys,” and use things that allow their “alter egos” to be conduits for their true selves. For Robbie it was Rex and for Adrian it was Cat Noir. The problem is, they (and the fans) act like their “alter egos” are different entities. In reality, Rex is Robbie and Cat Noir is Adrian. They were always outgoing, sexist, hyper perverts.

Why do I remember Jade asking Robbie if he tried to play pirates with Cat? Robbie didn't do it (apparently), but that was when I learned that playing pirates makes Cat uncomfortable. Also, when Trina was being creepy that actually freaked me out more as a kid than when Robbie was, not because of gender, but because Trina was the OLDER sister of Tori, so as a kid I expected her to know better. With Robbie, it was a little more complicated for me to recognize bc when I was a little kid, I would give my stuffed animal a different personality from mine (not a creepy one obviously bc I was nine), that was more extroverted than me. As a kid I felt like she was a separate character from me bc I was so shy, but I knew I had control over her so I could say the (innocent) things I couldn't get myself to say. So as a little kid, with Robbie I couldn't quite tell when he was being creepy, I would separate Rex and Robbie, and I assume Robbie is younger than Trina, NOT that it excuses it, I kinda thought he would know less than Trina which is just why I got more creeped out by Trina than by Robbie. Robbie was just more... complicated for my tiny mind to understand but now that I'm older... omg. He knew exactly what he was doing and my childhood mind isn't realize it...

I think what made Rocko's Modern Life different is that the characters were adults. Rocko definitely felt aimed at all ages. So it was less offputting, and a lot of it felt natural for his modern life. Also, no one was really sexualized (as far as I can remember), it was still largely delivered with the same tone as some of Spongebob's more adult jokes, and even the ones that pushed the envelope way more just felt like oh okay, this is just another weird thing in the Rocko universe. Versus adult jokes in Victorious which are said about kids and it's just uncomfy. And let's not forget those weird scenes/clips of Cat doing things like drinking water upside down. Rocko's adult jokes were often framed as funny because they're awkward, and despite being sexual in nature sometimes, it wasn't really done with the intent to sexualize any characters or mock appearances (except for maybe the episode abt Mrs. Bighead wanting an affair but idk I haven't seen it in a min), versus Victorious, where the sexual jokes are often made with the intent of demeaning literal children for the shapes of their bodies as well as likely being a way for Dan to envision his sick fantasies. Also, how blatant they are. Like idk, they seem obvious to us now, but as a kid, a lot of Rocko's and Spongebob's adult jokes flew over my head, or at most I thought maybe it was kinda a dirty joke based on my parents' reactions but never fully understood what made it dirty until I got older, meanwhile when Schneider's shows start joking about who's got a flat chest or how curvy Carly is, I got it immediately and it never made me laugh.

This reminds me of comments ppl have made about the show “Crazy ex girlfriend” (which is personally one of my fav shows ever) but at first glance people will comment that the main character (Rebecca Bunch) is obsessive and harasses her ex boyfriend(josh) in a way that would be unacceptable if she were a man and the roles were reversed, but it’s played off for laughs (at first). Which I agree with to an extent, but the show not only went into the deeper reasons of Rebecca’s actions, they actually introduced a character that was almost EXACTLY like her but a male counter part(Trent). Trent obsesses over Rebecca the same way she does Josh, and the show does a great job pointing out the double standards. (Also, the show is a musical and they even have Rebecca and Trent sing separate but the same songs “I’m just a girl in love” and “I’m just a boy in love” it’s so clever and such a great show) sheesh that was a long comment

Rex being used by Robbie to express his creepy thoughts and feelings paralells Dan Schneider in real life using his shows and Nickoledeon in general to express his creepy thoughts. In fact, in Victorious,Robbie was literally the main puppet in the show for the dirty jokes in it.The reason why i say Nickoloedeon in general is because remember when the original Nickoloedeon logo got changed to a foot!!? The whole channel deserved so much better than Dan Schneider...

There's a really cool video by pop culture detective(i think that's their name), and they talk about what they call "nerdy misogyny". The trope in media that when "nerds" sexually harass women, it's funny and cute. But when a jock type does it, it's gross and rude. I find Robbie fits perfectly into that trope!

See it is indeed a showing of the double standard hollywood has yet at the same time its sort of different to some extent , Trina sexually assaulting Beck was seen as a joke and less serious and many girls were upset with Robbie for the sexual assault yet at the same time he was demonized for sexual assault and also he was made to look good because of it , and when i say he was made to look good i mean they made it seem like it was okay like It was okay because Cat and Robbie were ‘ in a relationship ‘ when he just wore her down , this is a general trope in hollywood the creepy guy likes the girl and he wears her down and she finally agrees to be with him it is creepy and needs to end

Maybe it's because I was a little older when Victorious initially aired (around 16, I think) I always thought it was weird and never understood the popularity of the show to begin with. It kinda bothered me that the target audience is clearly middle schoolers and the type of "comedy" that's in it is nowhere near appropriate. Like I've seen some other comments point out, it's not like adult jokes in other shows that were meant to go over the audience's heads (like early SpongeBob, Rocko's Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy, etc), it's blatant. And don't even get me started on the racism that you don't know is racism as an 11 year old, but go back and watch and can't figure out how it was supposed to be funny anyway...nearly all the shows in this general genre from this time period do this.
