I cannot tell you how much the Sheriff 22 is PRECISELY the amp I have been dreaming I'd someday find! It is PERFECT in every single specification for my application (Well, maybe with the exception of price)! I love the tone of the amp - British, but not too identifiable with any particular brand. And the clean is heavenly! And on top of it all, the cab options are INCREDIBLE! The vertical 2X12 with the mixed speakers, as if it was created just for me. I am absolutely stunned. WELL done!!!

Own the 44. Tried both. Fell in luv with he cathode bias sound of the 44. The 22 doesn’t have that option but is a lot cheaper and the better option for home use, though I cranked it and it’s well loud too! The 44 is easily loud enough on either bias mode to gig with. I prefer the plexi sound of channel one and bypass the loop. I would try pedals in the loop first if that’s your thing. Not what this amp shines at. The good news is that pedals sound good in the front end. It’s light and portable for this kind of thing and have had no problems in 16 months of use so far. Any revision of the Sheriff’s should include a footswitchable loop as the amp sounds at it’s best with it bypassed. Great plexi sounds you can actually lift about.

Hi! I also have Sheriff 44. Does your head have some kind of noise floor (which is honestly very quiet and barely noticable) that depends on the eq knobs? I mean when turning the treble clockwise, you can gradually hear increasing some kind of buzzing noise, probably due to increasing the treble frequencies. Similar happens with the mid pot. The bass increases some kind of humming noise. When all the eq pots are on zero, there is no noise at all, just normal rustling. I didn't notice this before, so I question myself is this normal or it's my Ocd 🤔. The amp is actually very quiet in term of noise floor, but just a little bit louder than my Silver Jubilee (which has a choke).

The Sheriff 44 is absolutely stunning. The slightest tweak of any knob and you can hear the tonal change. Both Input I and Input II are inspiring to play through. I am having to experiment with pedals in front of the amp. A touch of reverb, a splash of delay and working my way through to get a round / glossy lead tone from my Strat. I've got a Chandler Tube Driver in front for a little extra push for lead tone, but the Sheriff gets a little pissy with a drive pedal in front. I'll crack the code, but all in all this amp is breathtaking for the price. Currently in pre production for recording project and it's an inspiring amp.

What a a superb video, amazing playing and amazing tones. However I feel I should mention a word of caution if you are thinking of buying one. I bought a Sheriff 22 and 2x12 cab rig on the strength of this video and yes it is a truly fantastic amp but it does need to be driven, so not good as a home or studio amp and it didn't seem to like my OD pedal. At low volume it was lacking sustain and was lifeless, and absolutely nothing like the video - imho. I think it will be perfect for gigging or situations where you can crank it but either way you definitely must try it before you buy - don't make my mistake. By the way it is 28 watts not 22.

How high can the volume 1 gain go before you get any "hair" with humbuckers? I see it can go to about 10 o'clock or so and stay clean with a Strat, but by 12 o'clock it's already got some dirt with humbuckers.
@johnk31958 жыл бұрын
Dammit Mick !!! That is one of the best sounding Strats I've heard (from all the past Guitarists demos, it stands out). What pickups are in that axe ?
@JerodimusPrime8 жыл бұрын
Your probably getting more amp tone than guitar tone. High end strats are very similar sounding and you need to be live in the room to really notice any real difference, in some cases the difference can only be felt when playing by the guitarist.
@micktaylor83508 жыл бұрын
Thanks John, something about that guitar definitely speaks to me. Jerodimus is right in part, with some caveats. The pickups in that particular guitar are Seymour Duncan Antiquity, but I believe that the latest Fender American Vintage pickups and Custom Shop ones sound every bit as 'good'. Some other things that I believe contribute to how that guitar sounds. It has a fairly light body with a pretty thin nitro finish and virtually no undercoat that I can see. I haven't heard any heavy-body /poly finish Strats that appeal to me in the same way, though it should be added that plenty of people really love them. Also, it has titanium saddles: I think they bring a kind of evenness and clarity, although not markedly different from high quality stainless steel saddles. The neck is not skinny, and it's a lovely bit of dark rosewood. I had it refretted by Patrick Eggle a few years back, who really does a stunning job and finally, it just has to be a vintage style, six-saddle bridge, sitting on the body. No fancy-ass tuners, no straplocks - as little as possible to change from what it would have been in the early 60s. Whether any of that actually makes a difference, I wouldn't state my life on it. But, having played hundreds of Strats old and new, I believe that this particular combination of features gives me the best chance of liking and bonding with the guitar. Certainly, the news ones I play that I love tend to tick all those boxes. So in conclusion, I really don't think it's the pickups alone - they're just part of the whole deal, and happen to work in this particular guitar. Cheers!

But It has two problems... first the fx-loop does not work so well, I don't use it at all, but I did some tests and it's hard to set up your pedals to achieve good results. Second, it doesn't like OD pedals at all. I usually put an OD with very low gain and some volume as a boost in front of my amps... but the Sheriff reacts in a very odd way do ODs. I would like to try a Klone-like pedal... but I'm too scared to waster my money.... anyone tried one?
