Jehu, you can actually use these LVD modules without using a second module to charge. It's simple, just connect the charge wire positive to the battery side of the module and not the load side. The module continues to protect the battery from low voltage and still allows you to charge without back feeding the module. There really is no point in using another module because it would only be on when that charge voltage is present and if it's charging then the voltage is definitely above the disconnect voltage, so it's not actually protecting anything anyways. If you look closely at the diagram, it connects the load side (Out) of the second "charge" module to the B+ (In) of the main module.

You need to read item description before buying. This is to prevent your batteries from being over discharged. An example is an inverter cutting out at 9.5 volts which will stuff up your expensive battery bank. I spent over $1000 on my batteries so spending a bit over $100 for a quality protection unit is value plus. This way my batteries are disconnected from my inverter at 10.8 - 11 volts so they can recover to 11.5 + volts. Also 220 amps spreader over 8 MOSFETs is under 30 amps per MOSFET, well within spec's. This is why it has a 5 year warranty. If you purchased the wrong item you can return it before wasting over $100 with an angle grinder to make a video to prove your out of your depth.

Two things: 1) Unless your battery charger is an idiot, why would you need to protect your battery from your charger using this device? Bypass this device with the charger. 2) I'm not an electrical engineer, but I don't think Victron is simply trying to sell you more stuff. The main component in this device (the thing that actually cuts the current) is a solid state switch rather than an old-fashioned solenoid switch. Unlike a solenoid switch (which has moving parts), you'll wreck this solid state switch if you try to feed current the wrong way through it. That's my understanding, anyway. For me, it's a worthwhile compromise.

I am pretty sure the SSR works both ways, to protect the battery current flows through the MosFet, to Charge theBattery current flows through the bypass Diode thats inside the mosfet.
@brinkshows27203 жыл бұрын
0:50 No, this device is to prevent over discharging your battery. So why should you put a battery protection on the charging devices? The thing is that this device uses a mosfet as a switch. If you want to go both ways you need two mosfets in series with oposite polarity. This means double the resistance and double the heat meaning double the energy loss. Which would make this device way more expensive so its better to just make it single way and if you want both ways, to then buy a second one.

disliked it only because you are returning it to amazon, then some clown there is going to "inspect" it and put a sticker on it and sell it on warehouse deals :( ended up with a lot of broken crap from warehouse deals to the point where i stopped buying anything from warehouse deals.

To be fair, he warned us about that in the end 😉 And to be honest, Jehu is far too lazy to return it so don't worry about it 😂

So you'd rather have two pieces of cheap Chinese junk that blows up your entire battery pack? You are right about one thing, you don't know what you are doing!

Victron is overrated, twice the price because you are paying for marketing en subsidizing client support for returned failures. Ps, I am an electronic engineering that works full time on power electronics.

Why does that circuit not like reverse flow? They seem like regular 60v 200A fets

@@wrndlabs You're paying for research and development, quality products and support. Try and find 5 years waranty on Aliexpress that you can actually rely on. Victron stuff is tested, certified and supported. PS I am R&D engineer in power electronics.

@@jehugarcia Because it's not made for it. The FETs are only here to switch off a load. Not to prevent charging. This is not the use case for this product.
@jkenny14 жыл бұрын
@@jehugarcia you need back to back MOSFETs to block charging flow from going through the body diode of the other ones. That's how most BMSes are built.
