Jehu, you can actually use these LVD modules without using a second module to charge. It's simple, just connect the charge wire positive to the battery side of the module and not the load side. The module continues to protect the battery from low voltage and still allows you to charge without back feeding the module. There really is no point in using another module because it would only be on when that charge voltage is present and if it's charging then the voltage is definitely above the disconnect voltage, so it's not actually protecting anything anyways. If you look closely at the diagram, it connects the load side (Out) of the second "charge" module to the B+ (In) of the main module.

The second charging battery protect is for use with Victron batteries with internal VE-Bus BMS. If you have a BMS already it is superfluous.

You need to read item description before buying. This is to prevent your batteries from being over discharged. An example is an inverter cutting out at 9.5 volts which will stuff up your expensive battery bank. I spent over $1000 on my batteries so spending a bit over $100 for a quality protection unit is value plus. This way my batteries are disconnected from my inverter at 10.8 - 11 volts so they can recover to 11.5 + volts. Also 220 amps spreader over 8 MOSFETs is under 30 amps per MOSFET, well within spec's. This is why it has a 5 year warranty. If you purchased the wrong item you can return it before wasting over $100 with an angle grinder to make a video to prove your out of your depth.

Don't use this on an inverter, it will fail immediately, because of reverse current and or high capacitor inrush current.

Somebody commented on my channel and recommend this thing, said this is another level. 😊 and he's right. It's another level of rip-off. An automatic hi/low voltage cut-off (with adjustable digital display) board paired with a 300A continous duty solenoid relay switch is a much better diy option than this. You got your hands first on this thing. I was planning to do exactly the same for my future video content. Thumbs up Jehu! 👍👍😊

1:00 There are two relays so that the charger and the load can be switched separately. If your load is too big for the charger to follow, it will damage the battery. So the battery can be charged and only when a certain voltage is reached can a load be switched on again. Wikipedia: Hysteresis

Two things: 1) Unless your battery charger is an idiot, why would you need to protect your battery from your charger using this device? Bypass this device with the charger. 2) I'm not an electrical engineer, but I don't think Victron is simply trying to sell you more stuff. The main component in this device (the thing that actually cuts the current) is a solid state switch rather than an old-fashioned solenoid switch. Unlike a solenoid switch (which has moving parts), you'll wreck this solid state switch if you try to feed current the wrong way through it. That's my understanding, anyway. For me, it's a worthwhile compromise.

@brinkshows2720
@brinkshows2720 3 жыл бұрын
0:50 No, this device is to prevent over discharging your battery. So why should you put a battery protection on the charging devices? The thing is that this device uses a mosfet as a switch. If you want to go both ways you need two mosfets in series with oposite polarity. This means double the resistance and double the heat meaning double the energy loss. Which would make this device way more expensive so its better to just make it single way and if you want both ways, to then buy a second one.

Jehu. Those SSR a thyristor based it won’t work for this DC application by using thyristor on DC circuit, after you turn them on there is no way to turn them off unless you remove the current from the main terminal. How can use this different purpose function if is a 2 way fet relays? I power one with 2 thermal switches in series put on each battery of parallel. If im not in RV and rv is under big charger and 1 battery cells short, can burn my RV because absorb never ending the max current. But the thermal switch at 50 c open and separate all chargers from 2 batteries. Yes the good will discharge into the shorted battery but with ridiculous current and any fire. I go back and can resolve the problem.

The EPEVER gear (I have a 10 and 40A models) both work but they're slow to track (like really slow, like taking 10+ seconds to react to a cloud clearing out of the way) and the interface is garbage. Whereas I have their "smart" bluetooth MPPTs (50A and 100A) and while the interface could also use work the MPPT side of it is very good. Funny you mention the “what’s inside” KZbin channel, it’s one of the fastest growing most successful ones out there. That guy has made millions tearing stuff apart, what waste are you talking about? Sounds like you are stuck in the past and you don’t actually get how the modern world works .

@@jehugarcia I guess if you where raised to respect what you have and try to take care of it that would be "stuck in the past" I wasn't raised in a wealthy family, where you could destroy something to see how it worked or what's inside it. I guess that's stuck in the past. We didn't have money to destroy the things we had to get another or something better. So I guess that's being stuck in the past also. I have taken apart many things that no longer worked to see what may have failed or if it could be repaired. I am sure you have money hand over fist, seem to have a large following. Like I said older people see things a little different because we didn't have everything handed or given to us we had to make our own way, money and the likes. Like I said looking at what was done to see what's inside seems like a waist of money to me. I don't have that kind of money to through away, so yes I am stuck in the past like that. I would have had to actually returned it for something else or a refund. You even said, I don't know how this works on the board, so was it worth it? I guess with the amount of money you have it was a drop in the bucket. The time is fast approaching when everything is going to change in America. That drop in the bucket may come to play soon!

I don't understand the sense what you say. Ever is possible to make better things. Why are boats and car if you can make a vehicle that go both on street and water? Why computers have for years a CPU, a GPU, memory, etch on separate components if was possible to put this things on a single chip from decades? Why all companies makes inverter and chargers if is possible to do both tasks in the same device with the same transformer? Why makes mppt charge controllers and alternator chargers if a single device can do both tasks? If a company decides to make a product have her reasons. We must destroy all diodes in the world because they allow Only one direction current? I don't understand really. You create another device with different characteristics. Maybe far better? I don't know. But if i make a one sense fet relays is not Only to sell more.

No the battery was alread built. I talking starting with regular 18650s charge, discharge, and repack solder or spot weld fuses. In other words build a battery. Not put two batterys in parallel or series that's putting someone else's batterys together . Or slapping some batteries in some pc boards. Hands on get DIRTY an build a battery. Like the sombas battery. The 7s 24v battery packs. Let's not forget the better than a Kodiak generator BUILT the battery packs. Video was one of the best diy solar generator videos out there one of.

disliked it only because you are returning it to amazon, then some clown there is going to "inspect" it and put a sticker on it and sell it on warehouse deals :( ended up with a lot of broken crap from warehouse deals to the point where i stopped buying anything from warehouse deals.

@@jehugarcia you need back to back MOSFETs to block charging flow from going through the body diode of the other ones. That's how most BMSes are built.
