Suggest to watch your mic location. The sound of your voice was a bit loud/clipped when your head was tilted down. Did find the video helpful, I'm trying to work out the purpose/use case of these DC DC units. The apparent efficiency of the unit is impressive.

to charge an auxiliary battery, especially LiFePO4 where the battery capacities involved can otherwise cause alternators to burn out, or blow fuses on pre-existing simple VSR systems.

I can find 2 other DC - DC Chargers available. One seems to be as efficient and cost as much as the OLD version and another is about Double and only with its proprietary battery banks. If I wanted the best quality, the new version seems to be the best product available. I consider HEAT buildup as the biggest criteria.

If you have a Victron compatible canbus lithium battery and a cerbo gx, do you know if the Orion XS charge profile can be controlled by the battery BMS via the VE Direct cable?

Hello! If you connect the 12v alternator and charge a 240 amp 24 amp lithium battery. I can load

Hello @offgrid_power , big kudos to the great works you do. Please I have some recently bought lifepo4 cells. Out of ignorance, I connected them down in series, while waiting for my daly BMS to arrive my home country. Upon BMS arrival, I went checking the voltage of the batteries, only for me to find each and all, reading negative (-26.40V ) on the multimeter as against 26.40V as at the very day they were connected after top balancing. Please, is there anything I can do to correct this?

Turn your multimeter leads around, you have connected them backwards.

Great video ! I’m curious, which battery app/monitor is that on the left?
@rogerivy852510 ай бұрын
It’s a Cerbo GX with a Touch 70 screen. The Cerbo is the device just to the left of the bottom of the Multiplus - it has cables connected to most of the devices.

How did you ground the unit? Is there a common neg/ground?
@Grevlain7 ай бұрын
The non-isolated model does have a common ground connection.

Im not impressed of the new model. It will never give more than around 40-42A because a standard Euro6 alternator only give around 12.9V on highway driving. Beside that there is also a large voltage drop in long cables. I will still go for the premium fan cooled DC-DC from German Votronic and Büttner which give stable current at 50 Amps.
@casemodder893 ай бұрын
i'm using the 50 amp votronic too for 3 1/2 years in the company van alongside a 100Amp hour LiFePo4 battery for a compressor colling box in summer and auxillary heater in winter. never missed a beat.

I really do not understand the need. 140 US for a 12-24 volt 20 amp non smart unit with integrated active cooling fan to a Victron solar charge controller.Result is 400 plus watts to the battery. 12-24 device is adjustable to 30 volts and only draws 20 amps. This is a solution in search of a probelm.

just because you don’t experience/aren’t aware of the problem that this solves, doesn’t mean it’s not real.
@gregyohngy6 ай бұрын
EcoFlow has a similar unit for double the price, not including cable that can charge only its Delta products. This can charge any Lithium battery or power bank. So, I think 50 amps provides 700 watts, while the EcoFlow does 800 watts.

£299…..cheapest I’ve seen !!!!! Can they be turned off via the app?
@johnallen355510 ай бұрын
very poor and unscientific test - you placed one unit face down in a non- recomended sub optimal for cooling and the other in the recomended optimal for cooling position - you can do better than this, don't be lazy This is not take away from the XS being better unit that runs cooler
@frodev72810 ай бұрын
whilst that is definitely true, I’ve seen the 12/12 -30A units get to 85ºc on the casing in real-world installations.

Glad you enjoyed the video, John! Thanks for your support! And whilst this wasn’t a comprehensive scientific test, it illustrated how much more efficient the new charger is. Anyone that’s used the old Tr Smart knows how hot they run!

What you say is quite true John. But we had it on its side for quite a long time whilst I monitored heat buildup. Whilst the fins were not vertical (the way you’d normally mount it) they were exposed and the heat was radiating upwards. But as Frodev728 says I’ve known them to get so hot they’re uncomfortable to touch. For some reason we dropped it down just before filming, I think I wanted to check heat on the face. But …. nicely observed.

@@rogerivy8525 I look forwards to getting one of the new units, just to reduce the heat buildup in the electrical compartment as I live in the tropics
