When you throw a curling bomb, your inkling or octoling will fist pump as it explodes, but only if you haven't moved after throwing it. What's cool is that you can rotate the camera to see the fist pump and a happy face.

here's a kinda sad one: Sometime last year, I found out you could get on top of the shell out machine in the lobby by dropping down from the top floor. It was such a fun way to squid party with my teammates and show off that that was a place that you could go (especially since some people didn't know you had to drop down from above and tried to find some way to get there from below). I enjoyed this new discovery for maybe a month, until it was time for a splatfest and the conch shell sign stopped you from being able to stand there. Once the sign was gone, I tried get back up only to find out that THEY PATCHED IT OUT??!! For one that still exists in the game: I only recently learned that you can tell people left your team before the game shows you in the top left - if one of your teammates doesn't show up as a hologram, they probably aren't in the room with you anymore. There were so many times when I was like, "there's teammate A and there's teammate B, where is the third guy?" and then not making the connection when they left the room 10 seconds later.

My knee jerk reaction whenever someone mentions the Wahoo World timer: Did you know Wavebreaker has contact damage? (I first found out playing CJr. when it first came out and accidentally threw a Wavebreaker onto a Dapples with low health, splating them.)

I'm not sure if many people know this, but after you kill a mudmouth in salmon run, a little salmonid jumps out from the top and falls right back down to the remains of the mudmouth. Took me almost 2 years to find this out...

When the Tri-Stringer was first shown, I didn’t really like it because I thought a basic bow wasn't very Splatoony. But then I realized that it's made from a fishing rod, and the "arrows" are frozen ink popsicles that "pop" to deal damage. So that's actually the most Splatoon thing I've ever seen and I main stringers now🥰

When you use a charger (at least in Splatoon 1) the sound of your opponent getting splatted isn't coming from an inkling. It's an audio file for the charger specifically so you can hear when you hit someone from far away. You can hear the Woomy splatted sound baked into the end of the sfx track named Splat Charger on the Splatune CD.

You can squid roll from play to mini pole on barnacle rw. Edit: the super jump is actually based on your form. Because of the transformation from squid to kid, it’s faster when you’re already a squid.

Back in S2 for a lot of players: Startup rng, the first few shots of a shooter are more accurate before decreasing to its full spread. It has always been a mechanic and I'm sure a lot of people unconsciously knew its existance on shooters but it was during the patch they made it better that a lot of people openly realized it was a proper mechanic in splatoon.

Since I skipped Splatoon 2, I honestly keep forgetting the dodge rolls on the Dualies are even a thing. And I learned this one because of another game, the .52 Gal is based on a grenade launcher. There's a real life weapon that's shorthanded to the "Cal". (Learned that cause of Persona 5 of all games)

I did know a lot of these things *by now*, but instead of just bragging, I'll share my big one from 2015: it took me months to realize that there is a special meter on screen. When I first started playing Splatoon I would just press in my right stick whenever I wanted my kraken, and just hoped it was ready. I still struggle with indicators like glowing tentacles and the ink tank being empty, which change the character model. I still don't know whether or not glowing tentacles are visible on other players during matches. I call it "UI blindness"

I knew all of that. But did you know that if you're on the map, and you press the arrow associated with a teammate, it'll tell them you're about to superjump to them? It makes like a little dinging bell noise and pops your name up on their screen. That way they don't put you in a terrible superjump spot.

Not exactly a wahoo timer moment, but just a cool fact i have a feeling not a lot of people know, the names of the enemies in side order are all musical techniques. For example, springing spiccato. Spiccato is a technique for stringed instruments where the bow is bounced on the string which is funny because that’s basically that enemies attack.

Less of an actual Splatoon realization, but still related: about 6 months ago I realized that the one race theme from fall guys (fall n roll) actually uses the one octarian burp instrument (electro tuvan) thing used in a lot of the Turquoise October music! (Found at the 0:41 second mark in the song) It’s not used in any other song in the game. it’s really muffled out by other instruments too, which leads me to believe it was actually an intentional inclusion 🤣

I learned that in order to reload, the ink canister on the weapons are removed, filled with ink, and reattached to the weapon. Example being the twist off cap on the splattershot What's going on in gameplay is not the same as in universe

I'd been using Dapple Dualies for at least a week or two at the point I figured out that you *could* dodge roll with them. For that entire time I thought the dodge roll was only for a select few types of dualies, and the Dapples just weren't one of them, and I was like "that's stupid." Little did I know who the truly stupid one was. How I never even managed to *accidentally* trigger a dodge roll until I figured it out, I have no idea. I kinda wonder what everyone playing with and against me thought, seeing someone playing dualies without using the signature mechanic of that weapon class even once. (And now I main Dapple Nouveau, lol)

I did not know until very recently that squid beacons hide your landing spot as if you were using s1 stealth jump. The effect ends as soon as the beacon is destroyed and I always broke them quick so I just didn't figure it out.

4:11 I also found out not TOO long ago that this also applies to your opponents, but only if your ink is still on them. Once they fully heal their icon will disappear from the map Oh and you can see your opponent's squid beakons on the map (Just now realized that it's spelled "BEAKon" because some squids have beaks...)

You know the stairs up to the battle tower in the splat 3 plaza? If you manage to hit it just right you can jump from the stair railing in the middle to the cement block thing on top. (This isn't the only jump though, there are some in the maps as well that I have made on accident)
