The two sessions of the Foreign Graduates Medical Examination in 2022 (FMGE exam) had over 50,000 Indian graduates of 496 foreign medical colleges writing it. A closer look at the institutions Indians chose for their MBBS abroad has revealed startling gaps in what is known or could be confirmed about them.
Careers360 checked the status of accreditation of the foreign medical colleges and could find evidence of some form of accreditation for only 293 out of the 496 institutions - a little less than 60%. Just 205 of the institutions - less than half by a wide margin - were accredited by the main medical education regulator of the country, the equivalent of India’s National Medical Commission; 88 were accredited by some other agency. Just 217 of the medical colleges - again, less than half - were accredited by a government body.
Similarly, many seem to be functioning without a hospital of their own or even a tie-up with one; the vast majority don’t show up in any credible international university ranking list; about four dozen appear to not have a functioning or easily-accessible website. Together, they raise questions about the quality of medical education being imparted at these institutions.
Indian graduates of foreign medical institutions must qualify the FMGE to be allowed to register and practise in India. The number of medical colleges represented in the FMGE’s list has grown steadily over the past few years and all through the COVID-19 pandemic, from 301 in 2019 to 496 in 2022. Just from the 380 in 2021, there has been a jump of over 30%.

Indian doctors are considered better than FMGs. By the term 'FMGs,' I am referring to graduates from countries like Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, etc., and not the USA, NZ, or Australia. Students graduated from these countries are often considered incompetent.

1. Not outdated. Content wise Indian Medical syllabus is larger than that of US and UK. Method of study may be outdated . 2. No ,less students write USMLE from those countries you mentioned, hence more pass percentage. 3. Indian medical system itself is cheapest in the world. Because here it is treated as a service sector. But in countries you mentioned it is a private sector under insurance model. That’s why our doctors are paid less. 4. If you have opportunity, skill and will to hard work, you can become a global doctor no matter where you study.

I don’t know if any data is available on that... in India- there is NIRF ranking for medical schools: www.nirfindia.org/2023/MedicalRanking.html at least you will be able to practice medicine in India after completing MBBS in India

It’s not about opportunities in India or abroad- the most concerning part is quality of education provided by these institutes which are not even accredited in their own countries

It’s a vital truth that the quality of education in these institutions are pathetic, but the quality of medical education in most of the private medical colleges and even in some government medical colleges in India is also poor…(especially in some deemed private universities)…unfortunately only FMGs screened in India..So NEXT exam for all Medical graduates (FMGs and IMGs ) may be a good option.
