@Truth Hurts Didn't Apostole Paul write letters to the Christians of Corinth and Thesalonika? These Christians were Greek, so the letters were written in Greek. We know also that the Gospels were written in Greek. We have manuscripts about Jesus in Greek dating back to 1st century BC. God created the greek language to express the most subtle meanings of His Message. Who will God accept in his Kingdom? A former pagan nation (i.e. the Greeks) that regreted for its sins and wholeheartedly accepted the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit or a nation (i.e. the Jews) that began as a God-fearing country but then hated God so much, that wanted His only Son killed and continue to this day to hate God . Jesus Himself said many times that Israel was the nation of God but rejected Him and His Message and only a few Israelites will be saved at the Judgement Day. At Matthew 15:21, Jesus praises a Canaanite woman for her faith in Him and the One True God, and not in the false idols her compatriots worshipped. In other words, it doesn't matter if one is of pagan family or speaks a "pagan" language. It only matters if one has faith in the Trinitarian God.

Research has shown that a part of John's Gospel written in Greek( it is preserved to this day) was written some months after Jesus's Resurrection. Also, how could Apostole Paul have spoken Aramaic in Greece? No one would understant him, especially when preaching to pagans.

I'm not that much into church, but being a greek and hearing this, I think the correct translation of "λόγος" should be "reason" here. Could be translated as "word" in other cases, but in this case, there is no meaning. I.e. "Δεν υπάρχει λόγος να πας εκεί" (There is no reason for you to go there), "Άυτός ήταν λόγος ανησυχίας" (This was a reason for concern). So, in the begining was reason and god is reason, not word... That being said, this is a very educative effort and I prefer your approach of modern greek pronounciation.

Yes both in nominative case! They are both masculine singular nominative nouns! Usually when a noun ends in -ος they are both masculine singular nominative nouns and are always accompanied by the masculine singular nominative article "ο"! In Greek also the articles are inflected in all cases, genders and numbers! So: Ο λόγος, Ο Θεός nominative, The Word, The God ( as a subject in sentence) will become in the accusative: Τον λόγον, τον Θεόν The Word, the God (as an object in sentence)! I'm Greek btw! 🙂

I'm so glad that you had this translation because I was trying to read Greek to compare word for word and I was coming up at the end of John 1:1 Word and not God and was really confused. I'm trying to show Jehovah's witnesses that the G is capitalized in Greek not with a lowercase g like it shows in the New world translation. Do you have a video that shows the difference between an uppercase G and a lowercase g? This is probably why you stated at the beginning of the video that you hope we know at least the Greek alphabet which I don't.

"Ο λόγος έχει αρχήν" (O lóghos échi archín)! I'm Greek btw! And the Word doesn't have a beginning, since it was God, the only thing in the beginning! So if God has no beginning and God is Logos then Logos has no beginning!

If verse 1 says ὁ λόγος had a beginning it would probably use ἐγένετο, the 3rd person singular aorist of γινομαι (I come into being), which is the verb used to refer to things being created in these opening verses (twice in verse 3, once in verse 6, once in verse 10). I say this because the other comment responding to yours is correct, but in John's style of writing in this section, he would have likely said "The word came into being" or something like that. There's also the logical problem that John says that apart from him (the Logos) nothing came into being, so everything that came into being (ἐγένετο) came into being through the Logos, so if the Logos has a beginning, then He had to pre-exist Himself. I know I'm a year late replying, but I appreciated your comment.

If the Logos had a beginning, then John would have written in the style of LXX Gen 1:1 Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἐποίησεν ὁ Θεὸς τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γῆν > Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἐποίησεν ὁ Θεὸς τὸν Λόγον καὶ ὁ Λόγος ἦν πρὸς τὸν Θεόν, καὶ Θεὸς ἦν ὁ Λόγος. John didn't write, Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἐποίησεν ὁ Θεὸς τὸν Λόγον. He wrote, Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ Λόγος ... πάντα δι' αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο, καὶ χωρὶς αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο οὐδὲ ἓν ὃ γέγονεν showing that the Logos is the Creator. Psalm LXX(32:6) τῷ λόγῳ τοῦ Kυρίου οἱ οὐρανοὶ ἐστερεώθησαν καὶ τῷ πνεύματι τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ πᾶσα ἡ δύναμις αὐτῶν. > Ps 33:6 By the word (Logos) of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

Logos has more wide meaning. It can mean your actual words, but it can also mean, logic, meaning for something to be or be done. Rima, means: 1) verb, or 2) just an act( without any metaphorical meaning)

You should mention the rough breathing is H. To explain why Hellas and Halleluia instead of ellas and alleluia. Also that the Erasmian scholastic sounds were derived from internal Greek evidence and loan words onto Latin, whose speakers copied the sounds they heard. Makes spelling easier. If they visit Greek Church your way lets them understand the liturgy as spoken/chanted today. So both are useful. Otherwise nice talk.

i think it is the Word was God, instead of God was the Word. why? here in this verse in Greek grammar theos and logos both in their form looks like subject or nominative case but a definite article with LOGOS tells that here logos is the subject and theos is not because word order in Greek has no significance but cases and articles which changes the form to show if it is subject or object or neuter. I could be totally wrong here but I learnt that a definite article with a noun shows it is the subject. but at the same time in my personal opinion, the word was God or God was the Word can be interchanged. but the whole verse seems to give emphasis on the logos. so I think it should be the Word was God.. anyone with more understanding of it I will appreciate it.

In English we have cases (capital and lowercase letters) Greek has 5 cases (Accusative, nominative, genitive, Dative and vocative - you can google these) "ton" is the accusative case for "the" and "ho" is the nominative case.. in beginning or "en arche" constitutes a prepositional phrase phrase, arche is the object of the preposition "en" (translated "in") therefore under this condition (and process of contextual elimination) we understand that "arche" is definite and therefore add "the" in english as "in beginning" is non-sensible English and makes little - no sense certain constructions in Greek are understood as definite, prepositional phrases are just one of them.. even without the Greek definite article John 1:1c is a whole other bag of worms (note it has NO condition in order to be understood as definite) Hope this helps abit

Because Greek and English are different languages and you don't have word for word match. Εν Αρχην means "In the beginning" or "For starters" depending on use, here it means the first. Any article for us means "the". Ο, τον, την etc etc.

Well done!!Koine Greek idioma, was pronounced like this from the beginning. So the first bible, written in Greek, was pronounced only like this. All people, trying to pronounce “erasmian” accent, are wrong, for that reason and for a second reason: erasmian accent is wrong anyway. Greek language was never pronounced in the erasmian way , cause there eas not such a way to pronounce it. Ionic, doric, attic accents were totally different than the fake “erasmian” way

You are not getting the point. In Greek, words can have any order and still make sense. Not in Spanish or many languages for that matter. Certainly not in English. You can say "el coche rojo" but you can't say "el rojo coche" and you certainly cannot say "coche rojo el". In inflected languages you can switch things around. In English you can say: I bit the apple and you can say "The apple I bit" although it sounds a little funny but you cannot say "Bit I the apple". And you certainly cannot say "Bit I apple the."

Some may like to know anyway the breathing marks. For their curiosity or helping to go closer to the original biblical text is always good, especially for those who are doing doctoral research. For them the breathing marks may be important. You should have done that. But since you didn't care about knowing them, I suppose you did not learn them at all. It's called inflection and it means that words take on different forms depending in how they function in the sentence, just like the word "his" vs "him" in english, it's different forms of the same word. Hi @@Ammoroso29, I am a Greek professor. God is not an Adjective here in the verse. This form is a Noun: θεος, the Adjective would be: θειος, θεια, θειον. So, one of the adjective forms is how one would say the "word was divine."

You should have mentioned this video when I asked about John 1 in that other video. This is exactly what I was asking you. I still don't understand how you came to assume LOGOS meant WORD however. It can also mean THOUGHT, CONCEPT, IDEA, IMAGINATION etc. It can also mean THE DIVINE EXPRESSION. Why then, is it translated as WORD? "Everything is about PRESENTATION, PERSPECTIVE, ATTITUDE, and INTENT" -- 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓛𝓞𝓖𝓞𝓢 ⁽ᴳ³⁰⁵⁶⁾ The Greek word LOGOS is where the English word LOGIC comes from. Therefore I believe this verse is saying that the Logos is literally the MANIFESTATION of LOGIC. ....Logos is the LOGIC aspect of THEOS. Theos is the CONSCIOUS aspect of LOGOS. You can't have one without the other. Verse two simply emphasizes that they are different PERSPECTIVES of the same CONCEPT. It would also imply that the WORD of God is LOGIC. In the GOD was the WORD is not the same as the Word was God especially from trinitarian logic, they assume God is the Father and they impose the word as a person as if this Word was a different God... or same God different person should I say, and WITH God, but God is the word it is his speech, also Wisdom was with God, Power/authority is with God... The Teachings are with God does this make them separate persons? No!
