You don't need to set the midi channel on the individual pads, Use the auto-populate tool for global adjustments.

Doesn't matter which hardware, what sort of instrument, if you have an issue, KZbin vids are usually not helpful. Full of bluster, wasting your time, annoying. UNTIL you find the unassuming, pleasant video of the middle aged Canadian, that really helps you. EVERY TIME! 😀

If the tempo issue is anything like the MPK Mini 3, try turning on clock sync in your DAW and set your MIDI out to the the pad/keyboard. After that, your pad/keyboard should use the tempo set in the DAW

Also what Akai fails to tell you is if you want the rotary knobs to control the Q-links inside the software you need to make sure that [Control] and [Track] buttons are lit under Preferences> MIDI/Sync for your respective midi controller (i.e MPK Mini or MPD218). If [Control] button is not lit (or selected) then the rotary knobs on your controller will not map to the Q-links. I now can control up to 12 Q-links depending on which Q-Link Mode I'm on in MPC Beats software. I plan to do my own video on this process cause there's more to it. Oh and this has nothing to do with that Midi Learn function which ain't worth a crap!

I just bought a used MPD218 for $50. It’s perfect for iOS / iPad in its simplicity and size. I’m so impressed, I’m toying around with it in Logic and Ableton. You missed the mass change feature in the Editor software to change the midi channel for all pads and/or encoders in one click. I’m using different midi channel assignments in different programs (pads and encoders) for specific plugins, effects and virtual instruments. Owners are dumping these for more recent devices, but I think it’s very underrated for what it is. 16 pads X 3 banks = 48 pad assignments AND 6 encoders X 3 banks = 18 encoder assignments. The combined 48 pads and 18 encoder can have 16 different programs = 768 pad assignments and 288 encoder assignments. That’s crazy flexible!
@RomanRiccio

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up on the mass change feature! It is indeed a great little controller.

Nice video. For the price, it's a great controller, I've had mine for a few years now, no issues. One tip I would like to pass along. If the top of the pads look a bit on the "dirty" side, get some cotton swaps (QTips) and just dip them in a "little bit" of Isopropyl alcohol (70% is fine) to clean the "top" of each pad. Really.. It will make the pads looks like "new".

Hi, As you do, I use the MDP218 to drive many kind of device, softawre. each time I need to remap pads the way I choose. i.e. for finger drumming pattern, I want 2 pads for the same Kick To launch sample, I need 1 note for each pad, etc. my question is : Must I adapt Midi mapping in MDP218 with a saved pattern for each device, or must I change Midi mapping in each device with every time the same config in the MPD218. sorry for this pretty confusing question
@RomanRiccio
@RomanRiccio 2 ай бұрын
Both approaches will work. I would consider if there are devices that use the same key mapping, and if so, it would make sense to create programs in the MPD for those. For devices that default to something unusual, I would probably try to remap them to something more common.

Have a question for you. I have 3 hardware drum machines I use & what I normally do is record & trim individual one shots from them into my DAW & then arrange patterns within the DAW's sequencer. I'm hoping for a new, more hands on workflow where I could connect all drum machines to one device with drum pads & set let's say map a kick from 1 machine onto 1 pad, map a snare from another machine onto another pad, etc. & then play live patterns on the device's pads into my DAW. Would that be possible with this? Or would I still have to record/trim each hit seperately from the drum machines into my DAW, then map the recorded hits onto the pads on this to play live patterns? The latter would be alot more time consuming
@RomanRiccio
@RomanRiccio Жыл бұрын
It might work to do that with the MPD218 if you connect your drum machines to the MIDI output of your DAW. The drum machines are probably already mapped to standard keymapping, and to get a kick from the first one and a snare from the second you would probably have to turn down the level on the elements you don't want to hear to zero. Otherwise I imagine that all the kicks will play at the same time and all the snares, etc. It would take some fiddling around but I believe it's possible.

Is it true that when you make a chord progression in a certain key , the software sets any additional notes you may play to match the key of the chord progression you've just made? I used software called 'PERFORMER ' 30 years ago , the manual was 3 inches thick! , I'm impressed with how far tech has come along but it seems like some things have remained the same .> - 30ty years ago, to do anything with a microphone ,like singing , you had to strike one of the tracks on your reel to reel 8 track recorder with smpte code to sync it with your midi song? It was a mess , looking at it that way I guess this thing is pretty good . then again 30 years ? , these units should be even better , unless ( like most things ) companies are dealing out technology in small profitable helpings.

The latency could be caused by a couple of things. You could try decreasing the buffer size in FL Studio down to 128 or even 64 if your computer can handle it. If that doesn't work you might need to invest in an audio interface with a better driver than the one that comes with your internal sound card.

Someone here using this thing with Maschine Software? It works, but I can't manage to assign pad 1 to pad 1 in the software... Any ideas?
@RomanRiccio
@RomanRiccio 3 жыл бұрын
I think you might need to figure out what the Maschine pads are keymapped to and then map the MPD pads to match it using the Editor.

Is it good? What difference with MPD226? Need info..
@RomanRiccio
@RomanRiccio 3 жыл бұрын
The MPD218 is very good and I really like the pads. The 226 has 4 assignable faders and transport control, which is useful if you want the faders. I prefer the 218 because it takes up less space on my desk and I mostly just use it for the pads, but I have also made use of the assignable knobs from time to time.
