Love that stretch. Even being stuck in construction doesn't seem so bad when you roll the windows down and smell the piney mountain air.

What an awesome video! God, it's such a beautiful place! I went there on holiday almost five years ago. Only spent four days in Banff out of a six week holiday but it is absolutely the highlight for me. I just adored it.

By far, your videos are the best among all Banff videos. I was there in November 2014 and have already booked my itinerary for August 2015. I have visited Canada many times (Ontario to be specific) and the stretch of Trans-Canada between Banff and British Columbia is the best Canadian highway I have driven on. Thanks to your video, now I know the reason behind it. Keep up the good work.

It's hard to believe that the Trans-canada Highway is pretty much all freeway through Banff National Park (with few exceptions). That must have been hard to pull off. I remember when the twinning ended west of the Icefields Parkway and then twinned again at Lake Louise.

Went there in 1997 Did you know that Lake Louise is named for the eldest daughter of Queen Victoria of England, and that the mountain is named Victoria so that the Queen can always "keep her sharp eye" on Louise forever.

You're right, All highways in Canada are under provincial jurisdiction but the exception is in national parks. Those are federal jurisdiction which is why the speed limit is 90 km/h, which it is in all mountain national parks, it's built to a different standard, and the signage is radically different.

Trans Canada Phil thanks for the reply..is there any website where I can purchase updated trail maps of Banff? I've downloaded some maps and printed them out but most are difficult to read. And I don't really want to be the guy walking around with printed out maps that don't provide too much info. Thanks

Dear Sir, Nice video! i wonder how you got the "park pass" in advance to avoid the long queue. cheers

Hi Phil, Your videos are a great help to me - we are planning a road trip for June this year. I noticed the big queues to get into Banff National Park. I've read that in 2017 all passes are free so do we need one at all, and if so where should we get it? I'm in the uk. Thanks, Ashley
@TransCanadaPhil8 жыл бұрын
Hi Ashley. You are right, the passes are free for 2017. You can get one at the following URL: www.commandesparcs-parksorders.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?expDataType=MarketingContent&mpe_id=20009&catalogId=53407&categoryId=216870&productId=524527&expDataUniqueID=46709&evtype=CpgnClick&intv_id=0&langId=-1&storeId=22953&ddkey=http%3AClickInfo

Phil, thanks so much for your help. I will watch them all and get the pass sorted. Our plan is to fly into Calgary, then drive to Banff for 2/3 days, head to Lake Louise, and then Jasper for 2 days before heading south to Kamloops, Vancouver, and then Vancouver island. Any suggestions on things not to miss would be greatly welcomed. Thanks again, Ashley

A couple things I would change: * If they widened the TCH from Banff to Calgary, it would be assumed that the very few at-grade intersections (I could only count one that crosses the highway and four RIROs) would be removed. At that time, the speed limit from Stoney Trail to Canmore should be increased to 120 km/h. * The park gate should be eliminated and park passes should be purchased either online in advance, at information centres (a large one could be in Canmore and in Banff, plus at campsites as your clue suggests) to minimize delays. * On the twinned sections inside the park, the speed limit should also increase, to at least 100 km/h. Wildlife are much less of a concern, although they could temporary post lower limits in sections during critical seasons.
@MountainHip7 жыл бұрын
you can buy a pass at the info center in banff, and online. they are free this year, but parks is asking everyone to get a free one for their vehicle
@TransCanadaPhil7 жыл бұрын
I agree about the Park Gate. It's kind of pointless since it makes much more sense to just stop at that big info centre in the Banff Townsite instead if you need one.

I am glad to hear Canada is finally getting up to the times like it's neighbor to the south has years ago. Hopefully sometime soon Canada will have just as good of a freeway network as the US does.

Nice video! Actually all highways running through National Parks are built & maintained 100% by Parks Canada, not the province. I find it ironic that Parks Canada can build better roads than Manitoba.
@christopherh43079 жыл бұрын
Great video! One small correction, however. You stated that Lake Louise was featured on the back of the $20. That's not Lake Louise, it's Morraine Lake which isn't far away.

It was all edited in Final Cut Pro X. There is a speedup effect you can use to retime and speed up the video to any speed you want. It's all running between 2-3x speed.

The Trans Canada road in Banff used to be a wonderful drive. Now. with it being completely fenced, you don't see one animal. I'm glad I saw it before it was "enhanced".
@TransCanadaPhil8 жыл бұрын
You can still drive the Bow Valley Parkway through Banff that runs parallel to the TCH from the Banff townsite to Lake Louise. In fact, the parkway was the original TCH long ago and is still more or less the same as it always was, a 2-lane undivided highway.

I like how you keep praising the quality of this highway... there is still a number of at grade intersections... southern Ontario's highways are much better quality.
@TransCanadaPhil8 жыл бұрын
It's due to a combination of the highway itself, its surroundings, and general ambiance. I still think it's tops :-D
@SyntaxOverflow8 жыл бұрын
Ok, yes it's pretty but by highways standards is what I meant xD... but I saw there are plans to remove the remaining intersections as well as rumours of 6 laning between calgary and banff

а у нас зачем гигантские ямы копают по обочинам? чтобы все туда падали и погибали? Смотрю в Канаде дороги вровень с обочиной - удобно и есть куда съехать если встречка. Значит это ложь что нужны дренажные канавы.
