You inspire me with this video! Happy it came up here on KZbin today. I think I needed this to find out why… I can’t stop thinking I want to paint, though I don’t really print anything and haven’t for a very long time! Thank you 😊

Great video! If the artist is confident in stating what the work offers, does it deter others from experiencing and interpreting the work for themselves? I know you say they may disagree, that it's better to be confident, but could you expand on this topic? Thank you!

Hi Christina, thanks for your comments and question about thoughts on the artist statement! I think it's important to know what your work is and about what you want it to offer those who see it. For me, having confidence about my work and what I want people to get from it is an empowering feeling. And! If an artist's objective is for viewers to experience their own interpretation without any input from the artist, the artist can say so in the statement. There are limitless ways to present yourself that can all root back to knowing what inspires you and why, how your inspiration informs the making of the work, and what you want it to offer to those who see it... including stating that everyone is invited to see it however they see it. Cheers to your artistic practice!
