Rebel News personality David Menzies was arrested Monday for allegedly assaulting a police officer while trying to ask Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland questions. The video of the encounter appears to show an officer stepping into Menzies' path while the media personality was carrying his microphone in the parking lot of a suburban strip mall. Charges were later dropped after police found 'no credible security threat,' York Regional Police say.

Did you see the woman in the hat do that quick dodge before the assault? It was a practiced move to prevent getting caught up by the officer. She makes eye contact with Mr. Freeze and then dodges between the reporter and the camera blocking the journalist's view of Freeze in a pinch point for the sidewalk end. Yeah, this was practiced scenario and not random. Premeditated assault on a journalist should probably have charges of some kind, and certainly not arrest.

Very true. Long time journalist like Joe Warmington. Menzies was wearing a media badge and everyone in government and security detail knows exactly who Menzies is and that he is not a "security threat". I met Menzies in person years ago, in fact gave him and Kevin J Johnston (remember him?) a ride to get coffee on a very cold day when they were outside of a recreation center in Mississauga. Menzies does not strike me as an aggressive bully, in fact he seems to be bullied. Sad to see someone close to 60 years old be harassed and arrested by police, and then released with no charges after the opportunity for an interview is long gone.

I will now CORRECT the Media Propagandists, this was 100% CLEARLY a SET up - Here is a Breakdown 1) As the Journalist walks beside Freeland, you can clearly see her aide (in white) look down the walkway, then quickly cross in front of the Journalist. WHY DID SHE DO THIS? This is called a POST, it is distraction meant to keep the Journalist from what was really going to happen, it was specifically done just in front of a Large Post, this was on PURPOSE 2) As the Journalist moves to avoid running into the aide, he closes with Freeland, in order to also miss the Actual POST - I would hazard a guess, that Law Enforcement, who set this up with Freeland's knowledge thought he might move in the other direction, in order to avoid bumping into Freeland, and perhaps bump into the aide, who would undoubtedly act OFFENDED and HURT, which would then give Law Enforcement the opportunity to "Arrest" the Journalist - This of course, did NOT happen, instead, the Journalist keeps pace with Freeland, and dodges the post in the other direction 3) This forced the Law Enforcement Officer to stretch out his RIGHT ARM and HAND, which can be clearly seen doing so, when you watch this in Slow Motion. The Law Enforcement officer actually made contact with the Journalist - ASSAULTED him under the definition of the Law - and can again, while watching it in Slow Motion, CLEARLY Be Seen to be BUMPING into the Journalist - Not the other way around as the Law Enforcement Officer tried to say 4) The Law Enforcement Officer, under the LAW, has to immediately identify himself, which he did not, in order to act as though the Journalist has bumped into him, which, when looked at in Slow Motion, was CLEARLY NOT the case at all, in fact it was the other way around 5) The Law Enforcement Officer also did NOT identify himself when queried several times by the Journalist, in fact another officer was there and also, not only did NOT identify himself, but also said the Journalist was under arrest 6) You can also CLEARLY see a couple of Regular, not plains clothes/under cover, law enforcement such as the guy that bumped into the Journalist, in te background as the Journalist is ASSAULTED and "Arrested" - WHY were they there? WAITING perhaps for something to happen? 7) Now go back tot he beginning, and look at the two or three vehicles parked at the curb. WHAT ARE THEY DOING there? They look an awful lot like Undercover/Unmarked Law Enforcement Vehicles that were just conveniently there - One could also look at it this way, they were there to FUNNEL the Journalist into a Specific Corridor, in order to get the desired Result they were looking for, limiting the Journalist's walking choices, this also goes back to the POST that the aide played This is 100% REPUGNANT EGREGIOUS REPREHENSIBLE DISGUSTING Law Enforcement has ZERO business doing this. Hopefully, there will be a very DEEP Investigation and I wouldn't doubt that a call from Freeland or her staff came to light, and notes taken on how to "BEST" deal with the Journalist CANADA is NOT Under Authoritarian Rule. It is NOT a Dictatorship. This is a DEMOCRACY This 100% should NOT have happened. BUT This is what you get when you have a Narcissistic Sociopath in CHARGE. This is EXACTLY what WEAPONIZING Law Enforcement looks, acts, and feels like. Make NO Mistake, All charges agains the Journalist should be dropped and the Officers involved should be Charged with Assault, and those responsible should all be FIRED for EGREGIOUS MiSCONDUCT and REPUGNANT REPREHENSIBLE ABUSE of Power.

So, the CBC is saying the reporter is known to the RCMP. They knew he was a reporter before he was pushed by the RCMP officer. He is an older man and has both hips replaced which is also known fact. By pushing the reporter and throwing him against the wall. His health could have been easily and permanently harm. It also fairly straightforward he posed no threat to the RCMP Officer or the Deputy Prime Minister. The same RCMP Officer withdrew the charges as the incident occurred on a public side walk. It also brings up comments where the new Government House Leader accused the Leader of the Oposition of hiding from unfriendly news organizations and only talking to friendly news organizations. Why is okay for the Deputy Prime Minister to only talk to friendly news organizations. She should also be expected to talk to unfriendly news organizations just like the Leader of the Opposition.

If this Officer can't control his emotions, and/or is unable to handle being bumped into by the media without throwing a temper tantrum, then maybe he shouldn't be one. He's better suited to work in a factory with limited social interaction with people. This wouldn't have happened to a CBC reporter. I would like to thank CBC for covering this story.

I'm an American, I don't know how things work in Canada but once you arrest someone in the USA, you can't un-arrest them. The prosecutor may decide not to pursue charges but once you're arrested, you're arrested. This guy was arrested, placed in cuffs and transported in a police car. They never went to a police station, per an interview with David Menzies, he was transported to the rear of a local school and released. How is that legal? In the USA, the journalist would be filing a lawsuit and he or she would 100% win. Is that not an option in Canada, do you guys not have something similar to our Bill of Rights? Love it. Right off the bat CBC jabs him with an “identifies as a journalist” intro rather than simply “David Menzies, a journalist from …”

Look at all the officers standing around. They know it is bullshit and not right. They don't even want to be there. WOW embarrassing RCMP you guys in this incident should be ashamed of yourself. You work for us the common folk. Disgusting.

Agreed. Tomorrow Trudeau will issue a public apology due to the coffee being delivered by the Toronto police to the pro Palestinian protesters being slightly cold.

The arrest is a little problematic, let's wait and see what happens next. A charge (that isn't quickly dismissed), let alone a conviction would be an actual big problem. This is a small problem currently.

people are too comfortable and naive to think that freedom and democracy and humanity actually exists in nations that supposedly enshrine their laws in such ideals and ethos. it's like the devilish demon saying, hey sign over your soul and i will grant you everything you want while you are alive. these societies consistently present and define heaven but always deliver hell.

@@DAndyLord All she had to do was to politely decline to comment and excuse herself because she has an agenda to respect. This looks bad on the public scope. If you run like that then you are not a public servant per se. Canada is no longer the country it once was. You can’t have a friendly debate any longer. Public servants can definitely do better.
