The officer said he was a dad too and that he could call his dad. Now, THAT was an empathetic officer. He also gave him a break on charges. That was a matter of his, the occupants, and CITIZENS SAFETY.

I didn’t play college ball, but being in this situation myself before, I feel for him. But you can easily put this behind you. I had 2 felonies and I am now in the IT field for a career, doing work for government officials like police stations and hospitals. Things CAN get better if you don’t let a mistake like this ruin your future. I’m in SE Alabama, and weed around here is 1 of the worst things to get arrested for. At least in my town. They act like it’s the worst thing besides murder and rape. But like I said, I was able to overcome this and get into a great field of work that I love. Prayers out to this kid and hope he gets a second chance in life.

@Robert Brent jr wow you just made a lot of huge leaps of random assumptions about a lot of people. I grew up in a blue area broke AF, food stamps, me my mom and my brother. I joined the Army because there were no other options, they turned a whole generation of us into violent sociopaths. With that you know how many people I have seen make it out and get dragged back in to dumb shit and ruin their life by dealing with the same people they grew up with that were up to no good. To answer you question about the Key FOB on the roof: The FOB has a RF chip in it that communicates with another communication device (connected to the ignition.) This is the concept behind "keyless start". When the two devices are within close proximity of each other, then the car's ignition can start. If you have the FOB in your pocket and you are standing outside your car, maybe six or so feet away, then someone inside your car could push the ignition start button and the car will not start. The FOB is too far away and cannot communicate with the ignition device, thus preventing the car's ignition from starting. The roof of the car is metal and acts as a "blocking" barrier. Even though the FOB is technically within range/distance and should be able to communicate with the other communication device, the metal roof is blocking the signal between the two.

To make a break and turn his life around is tough for anyone much less a teenager. A good councilor will tell him if he wants to change all has to change is EVERYTHING 😂. The crowd he hangs out with and the places they all hangout need to be off limits. No matter how much he wants to change it’s next to impossible to do so and continue doing the usual stuff he was doing. Just because the cops were trying to be gentle with this young man doesnt mean the judge or the prosecution will. This kid is a legal adult and was definitely breaking the law when he fled the cops with a controlled substance and what looks like intent to sell. Hes lucky niether of them had a gun. His trial and all the proceeding will take atleast a year if not more to conclude. If he's lucky he may get another shot but there arent always second chances whether or not anyone thinks you deserve one or not. Young people with opportunities who act as if they have nothing to loose trying to be like the fake gangster rappers they listen to should know better. Id say he'd be luckier to avoid prison than anything else. Most college athletes that do dumb stuff like this dont get to play again.

After a certain age that won't work, they'll hide their friends from you or straight up rebel . You can only stress the importance of letting go/ not hanging around bad company but it's ultimately up to them. This is coming from someone that's around the same age as the boy in the video, my mom tried to "put her foot down" on me for hanging with a cousin that's in the streets and it made me go against what she said and still hang with him. Only when she had a talk with me and told me the possible outcomes of hanging with him( giving me the choice) is when I stopped hanging with him. I know parents want what's best for their children but trying to force things on us will make us go against it.

Cars act as faraday shields, meaning electric fields can’t pass through them AS easily as other objects. So the keys electric frequency most likely can’t make it to the car. Tony here is the best advice you can get. You have a unique opportunity to make millions of dollars off your athletic talents. That does not mean it will happen but it does mean you have the opportunity that few others have to do so. Stay away from drugs, doing them and/or selling them. Focus on your goal of making it to the NFL and ONLY on decisions that will promote that goal. Your window for making your dreams come true is likely 4 years. That is extremely short but understand it is not over because of this mistake. But make it be a mistake and not your character. Now is the time to focus and succeed because the window is shorter than most 18 years can understand.

Just stay calm and be cool” and he actually had some loud in his car… That came from my money… because we stopped at a green monkey shop on the way to the club and they threw in some extra stuff in his bag… But low and behold we actually had a nice and kind officer who pulled us over he just ran my old friend’s ID gave my old friend a $200 speeding ticket and we drove off… Blessings from the most high that the officer didn’t search that car because we all it was 4 of us in that car… we all would’ve been detained… And Thank God my old friend had the sense to listen to me and didn’t try and run from the officer… He remained calm and stayed cool and we got lucky… I went home and was beyond relieved…

Somewhere in Mississippi I was cruising down I-10 much faster than I should have. Out of nowhere a state trooper popped up on the shoulder. Being young and dumb I thought I could exit and get away before he’d catch up to me. I took the first exit and pulled into the nearest gas station. Thinking I’d gotten away, I jumped out my truck to go inside the store and before I could get both feet on the ground, this trooper popped up out of nowhere, again!! . He signaled me to come back to his vehicle and the first thing out of his mouth was “I clocked you doing almost 20 miles over the limit and when I merged onto the highway, you accelerated.I could take you to jail for driving as fast as you were not to mention trying to evade. Did you think you’d get away from me?” Realizing I was caught, I decided to be honest with him and said “Yeah man. I had a pretty good head start so I figured I had a good chance to lose you. How in the world were you able to track me?” He said “well, I can’t tell you how but you’re not the first to fail trying. I tell you what…. appreciate you being honest with me so I’ll let you go with a warning. Keep your speed down. I’ll be out here all night. If I catch you speeding again, I’m taking you to jail.”

It's a push-to-start vehicle. That means there is no key for the ignition. The "key" is the fob. The fob has to be near the ignition in order for the vehicle to receive the signal when you press the push-to-start button. This is to prevent theft of the vehicle. If anyone could just walk up to the vehicle and press the PTS button, then anyone can drive the car. Instead, the fob has to be close by, which basically tells the vehicle you are the authorized driver. If you place the fob on top of the car, this is too far away from the ignition reader, so the car can't start.

Look in a mirror and stop playing dumb to fit a narrative you want. He did something dumb, that’s a fact. He got caught, fact. I’m not a lawyer, judge, college administrator, or anything… ain’t my job to punish him (or not). I just live in the real world where there is no realistic person that could think this was his first time doing it (which wouldn’t excuse it anyways). Now go belittle someone else with your race baiting bull and pretending committing a crime makes someone a victim.

They started with a lb of weed. No way he didnt know it was there. Plus if your running from the cops the first you do is ditch it. Kick your boy out the car get a hotel room call an uber. Crazy to throw it all away like this.

His career is not over over, just derailed for a minute. He will rise above it. And remember it as a learning moment. God be with him and his bro.

I mean this isn't nothing, evading police 200 grams of marijuana. That's probably a couple years in jail. Someone will probably still take a chance on him as an undrafted free agent or something but he's not getting drafted. Not while he's literally on parole
