I think people are really looking to far into this. The star rating system isn't bad but it's also not the most accurate thing possible. So many of these kids either don't pan out or wind up being significantly better than their rating would've suggested and they are smart enough to look around and realize that for the same job with similar production they could earn more money somewhere else with less competition. That said I think the issue is a lax culture that Saban has been forced to let grow in order to land or keep athletes because of how easy it is for them to leave. I say that to point out in both of Bama's losses and all close games this season the team didn't seem to have the tenacity of years past. Everything from the schemes to the effort seemed like they set madden to only run suggested plays and put down the controller.... but even then in 2 seasons under Bill Obrein Bama had a Heisman winner, sec championship, national title appearance, the number 3 and number 5 offensive scoring production in all of the NCAA. How can Bill O'Brein be to blame for a lackluster season despite his offense scoring being just under 3 MORE points per game!? Is he great? No, but he also is far from the issue!

During the one on one meetings there was often the brutal truth told to you. Some players could handle the constructive criticism while others could not handle it. Of course you also had a few egotistical coaches that spewed nonsense as well based on them simply not liking you for whatever reason. In the 7th grade, I did have a friend who had a full beard & when dressing out for PE, we were shocked that he had a chest covered in hair & was working toward a full back of hair too. Those Bama WRs are leaving because they've been beaten out by others, most of whom were freshmen this year and will be sophs next year, such as Kobe Prentice and Kendrick Law. Christian Leary is reportedly leaving because he wanted to be the punt returner, but Kool Aid McKinstry won that job. Before fretting about these losses, let's remember that Jermaine Burton is coming back. Also, keep in mind Jerry Jeudy won the Biletnikoff Award as a sophomore, and Henry Ruggs was in the same class. After those guys left, we still had DeVonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, and John Metchie. So Saban will always reload as the need arises. Bama already has 4 4-star WRs coming in next year, including junior college transfer Malik Benson, who is projected to be a major contributor.

Bye bye Bama! Now we all will see how overrated and overhyped and overpaid coaches like Saban are! The portal has been one of the greatest things to expose the corruption and phony greatness of coaches in college football. They can’t lie to these recruits and tell them BS just to get them to sign their lives away. If you are riding the bench behind someone else for whatever reason, you are not making it to the NFL! It’ll be fun to watch Saban go 6-6 and then we’ll heard the bama fans calling for his head.

I just feel the era of people having endlessly stacked 5 stars is over. Before NIL and Portal you went to schools to get rings and you think they might get you to the league. Now all that really matters is getting your check and getting the bigger check in the league. This is kinda the shedding of endless layers of 4/5 star guys from Bama. Yeah, they will get new ones to take there place but the days of just next man up 3 spots deep of it is probably numbered imo. Someone will just pay them to play somewhere else.

@@GrannySingaporePVP Yeah, having all those top-tier guys has really skewed expectations. This group of WRs really has underachieved though, which made the drop off even more obvious. Y'all have something good with Huepel, as much as it makes me want to throw up saying it, College football is much more interesting when UT, Florida and Georgia are relevant. This is just karma. Remember Nick Sabine going on TV insinuating that Dion Sanders paid Travis Hunter 8 Million to go to J State. The comment was out of pocket. Paying a recruit to attend your school is a NCAA violation. Had they took him seriously, an investigation could have caused J State to forfeit it's first, and only undefeated season.

I think Saban realizes the spread concept leaves you too exposed on defense. I think he is reverting back to the old style Bama use to play with ( heavy run, then play action. Receivers see the writing on the wall.. and are leaving accordingly.

I've been saying this since this started after the portal opened. We are going back to power and the OL that don't fit are leaving. The WR are leaving because they will not get the big numbers that mean a low draft number and more money the first four years. Bill O'Brien may be a reason that players are leaving, but not in the way people are thinking. He may be gone after the Bowl with the change in offensive philosophy. The players may already see the writing on the wall.
