I went to grade school (4th-6th grade) with his nephew Gene Romanowski. If you were on his good side and got along with him, he was a SUPER nice kid. However he clearly had MAJOR anger issues. He snapped over very small things, got right up in teachers' faces, pushed other kids around and got into a lot of fights. I asked him about it sometimes and he would tell me "I don't know, I just get so mad and sometimes I can't control it." It seems like either they have some anger issues that runs in the family, or maybe they just never had a good family life at all. I ended up moving away a few years later and never heard from or saw him again. Unfortunately this was before the days of social media and cell phones were just becoming a popular thing (early 2000s) so we didn't have many ways to stay in touch. I wrestled in high school and community college many years ago. In my community college experience I once ran across a certain “type” which I think has an analog in football and perhaps other contact-heavy sports. There’s something about intense physical contact sports that can get some competitor’s blood up just a little too much, to the point that the rules and constraints of the sport just go out the window. There was a wrestler in the area where I competed who had a reputation for this. He was very good - too good for our league - and the only reason he was competing in community college was because he had to leave a very good 4 year college where he previously wrestled (Oklahoma State, a perennial powerhouse). I saw him “snap” in a tournament match that he was winning easily. He began to illegally physically abuse his opponent, by over leveraging the poor guy’s shoulder joint and not so surreptitiously bashing him in the face with his elbow, etc. He was pretty quickly disqualified and the match was forfeited. Kind of a weird phenomenon that I’ve heard about from others. I wonder if anyone here has run across this when competing in sports?

Some say its not the size of the dog in the fight, BUT the fight that is in the dog. In TEXAS we like big dogs with XL fight in them. If football isn't the gladiators legalized ..then why is it called the LA Coliseum ? Football is a highly organized mob doing battle with just enough rules to MOSTLY portray it as a game. Current awareness of the long term medical consequences of all these blows to the brain cage are correctly moderating those rules. I'd be interested in how he would score on the Hare Psychopathy Checklist. Because his actions and the things he's saying in interviews... sound like either a sociopath or a psychopath. The physical aggression has me leaning sociopath... everything else: lack of remorse, lack of empathy, superficial charm, narcissism, manipulative tendencies and reckless risk-taking... says psychopath. Psychopathy is sometimes referred to as a more severe form of sociopathy. When angered, normal people might go so far as to remove the offender's extra burrito from the microwave... maybe if they felt out of control, they'd throw that burrito in the garbage or against a wall. But, it takes a severe brain disorder to conclude that the correct response is to throw the entire microwave at the offender.
