FUN FACTS TIME (For after you watch the episode, mild spoilers): 1. The very first episode (S1E1) Started with the Mega Man X4 intro level theme, and this one ended with the Rock Man X4 credits theme, using the musical book ends of that game to book end all of S1-3. 2. The background behind me as well as the players borders all match the Season background image I used for S1 (Violet/Blue) S2 (Magenta/Violet) and S3 (Violet/Orange). 3. The trophy is based on a TQmmunity sprite called TarvJam, which we use whenever a banger song happens. And of course, the stand being Mega Man's buster since I start every episode with MM music. 4. One of each bundle in Round 2 was originally from an episode the players appeared on. Yoko Shimomura was in S1E1 (Pyrr), Doctors was in S2E4 (Jon), Dogs was in S3E1 (8Bit). 5. I've always used the Final Fantasy X prelude to bookend every episode, but for this one I used 2 remixes of the Prelude from Theatrhythm Final Bar Line. 6. Each of the round names are based on a game: 1. Survivor 2. Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories B. Final Fantasy VII Remake 3. Kirby and the Forgotten Land 4. Street Fighter 2 5. Kingdom Hearts F. Soul Calibur 7. I am now the Alex Trebek of VGM (Not a fact whatsoever, but something I tell myself).

Fun Fact! The announcer at 1:07:45, from DOTA 2, is actually a re-recorded line from Valve to respect IP! The reason why Jarod thought about Unreal Tournament again is because it was in Unreal Tournament 2004, as well as the original Quake multiplayer. That voice line (along with many others) were ported from UT2K4 into Warcraft 3 in the original DOTA 1 map. When DOTA 2 became its own standalone game, they obviously couldn't used licensed clips without permission, so instead they invited the original VA who did the announcer voice from Quake/UT2K4 and had him redo all the lines that were used in DOTA 1, for DOTA 2. If you compare the voice clip from UT2K4, and the one from DOTA 2, you'll notice slight differences in the audio effects and the intonation. Now you know!

I'd say the song that caught me most off guard was the VVVVV one right at the end. I would have NEVER guessed a song that beautiful could be made using chiptune, and I'd outright say that I went from having a passing interest in VVVVV to now having it at the top of my backlog v - Spoilers Below - v Holy hell, I was rallying for Pyrrick. I was so proud of that man who paid me to hype him up. Those first few rounds were a complete domination and I genuinely believed he was going to pull through all the way, but alas, there were simply too many too many curveballs that he never could have studied for and Jon's finger speed is truly something to be feared. Honestly, what an incredible episode. Most episodes of the show have ended up being blowouts, but this wasn't, at all. I was convinced Jon was out of the running when Pyrr was ahead by like 40 points and Jerod had the priority buzzer, but he had an amazing comeback. Great showing by all three competitors, and including the Rites of Passage made this Survivor fan *very* happy, and was a great way to tie in previous competitors to this finale. I also found the selection of music for this episode to be far and away the best of any episode, and there's about a dozen games I've gotta go look up the soundtracks for now. Thanks, Tarvould!

So cool to see that a Commodore 64 composer is still a household name in the vgm community, Tim Follin. It's funny that only in the last few years have I taken a deep dive into vgm because back in the 80's I used the audio out on my TV to make a mix tape for my dad of C64 music. Way of the Exploding Fist was probably my favorite. Getting into vgm has been nothing short of revelatory.

Yoooooo that Xenoblade 3. I've been listening to that song a lot lately 'cause I just finished a 3-years-long TTRPG campaign with around 700 episodes and at the end all our characters basically ended up separated into different universes depending on their last choice (we had to choose between going back to our world, with our loved ones but without any kind of magic and after all of the destruction from the last few sessions, going to basically heaven, or going to a new uncharted universe)

A couple of the credits submissions I got were tricky. "Unforgotten" was the menu theme for Halo 2 and was also reused in the menu of Halo 3. "Never Forget" was a new arrangement that was actually unused in Halo 3, but was on the soundtrack and the menu of the standalone multiplayer disc that came with ODST. The Halo 4 version, based on "Never Forget", I believe is the only theme from the original trilogy that carried over and was used in the credits instead of the menu. Also, I forgot until this video that Nia's theme plays in the credits of Xenoblade 3. It's not technically credits music, but I guess it counts! The reason the motif was recognizable is because it's actually an arrangement of "Drifting Soul" from Xenoblade 2.

Great answers on why you guys love vgm and I can relate to them all. Proton John's is the one I relate too most. Vgm is just great music, much of it vastly superior to mainstream music today. Most of my favorite vgm music is from games I've never p[ayed. Jerod's answer relates well to my recent gaming experience the last few years. I got into Persona because I'm into Sonic music. Lyn did two songs for the 30th Anniverary cd. I got into Persona music because of those tracks, and have never looked back. I'll take Yumi, Shihoko, and Lyn (greatest singer ever with no qualifications for that statement) over Bey, Tay, and Rihanna, any day of the week. Lotus Juice is by far my favorite rapper now. I bought P5 Royal on the Switch because the reviews were so great, but for a while I was thinking that a social simulation with turn based combat combined two genres I had no interest in whatsoever, so maybe I made a mistake. I played it and now it's my favorite visual arts experience ever, including movies. I'm obsessed with all things Persona now, lol! I've played so many other great games that I got into the music of first. Pyrr's answer is also relatable because I've experienced getting into some vgm the opposite way. The two Ori games were amazing and early in the first game I knew I was going to love that soundtrack. And the tunes just evoke so much imagery and emotion from playing the game every time I hear it. Same for Hollow Knight. When I heard the Greenpath theme I knew the music was gonna be special. The music is also incredibly evocative of the game experience.

Because of your last show I bought cd soundtracks for Guilty Gear Stride and Paradise Killer. And because of a previous episode I bought basically every TWEWY cd available. Only exception is the cd single for the ending theme of the first game which wasn't by Ishimoto anyway. Too expensive and not as good as the rest of the soundtrack anyway.

The Ape Escape one stuck out to me like nobody's business. That game has a very specific rhythm to its percussion that doesn't get repeated very often elsewhere. Also you can Kinda hear, if your mind's ear knows the game, the weird overlapping dubbing that game has. Seriously. Catch a monkey. You'll hear both the Japanese and English voices happen.
