I know exactly what you're referring to. Blockbuster video in particular had a pleasant, almost calming smell. I don't know if it was the candy and popcorn along with all the plastic or what, or if they pumped some special odor into the store but virtually all of them had that familiar friendly comforting smell. I indeed miss that and am sad my sons won't experience it for themselves because our local Family Video does not have that smell...

My mother actually worked as the manager of a local video store back when I was a child. Sometimes she would take me to work and I can remember playing in the store. Other days she would setup a game console (because they rented those out too) for me and I’d sit and play games while she worked. I was quite young so I don’t have the same types of memories as these guys did. But I can still say I have fond childhood memories of my local video store. :)

Ultra CNC . It kind of depends on what you think the purpose of a library is. If you think it's just a place to hold books of knowledge, then yes you are mostly correct. Though Libraries have been traditionally more than just sources of non-fiction literature. However if you think the purpose is to collect, preserve and share with the community it serves; the knowledge, information and artistic tales of society and civilization than your view is a bit narrow. The technologies and mediums of society have changed quite a bit in the last 100 years.

Many guys would come in wearing baseball caps & sunglasses & go to the new releases section them when no one was looking they'd go into the adult room. We were advised to play trailers, but my friends & I would play films like "Monty Python & The Holy Grail", "Airplane! ", "The Naked Gun", "Star Wars" & "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". It was pretty cool because aside from the typical mainstream Hollywood movies, they also had these really bizarre sub genres of horror films like _'Andy Warhol's Frankenstein'_ or the _'Nazisploitation'_ variety like _'Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS'_ and _'Gestapo's Last Orgy'._ They usually had the *red sticker* on them indicating an NC-17 or X rating, but that didn't matter. The store clerks didn't care how old you were. They'd rent me practically anything. The video store years was a really cool time to be a kid.

@@LAST_STAND_FAN I haven't seen it in quite a few years, but I do remember being somewhat bothered by it (although I _was_ in my mid teens at the time). It's definitely schlock, but like a said, a little unsettling.

Good memories. Growing up in Connecticut We had a local place called "Real to Reel" video in mid 1980s. Then I remember the video store in Stop and Shop grocery. Mid 90s we had a local place called "Tommy K's" video.

I'm a 90's kid. And I remember going down to the Video Ezy every Friday night to rent a few movies and some Super Nintendo games, then walk down to Domino's next door. And that was my Friday night in a nutshell. And I miss those moments very much. It was something to look forward too, during those long school days.

One of my fondest memories of the video store was when a "ma&pop" store (by the name of Home Entertainment Videos) brought in arcade cabinets! My bestfriend and I spent hours playing a game by the name of "Cyber City," dropping quarter after quarter into the machine. We were devestated when they swapped it out for a different title...

Every Friday night I could have one friend spend the night, moms would take us to Little Caesars Pizza then to Blockbuster where she would get a new release movie and we (my bro and I) were allowed to get one video game each. Those were the best days ever!

Gosh, even me, who grew up in the 2000s, has fond memories of the tiny video stores in town. My town had 2, but I can only remember one being at the pizzeria (the other one went out of business easily). Once that pizzeria restaurant went out of business, it became a video rental store. Funny thing, that place moved around town 5 times, even at this building that I could see out my window and walk to. I miss it; it was a simpler time. My favorite thing was just looking at the stands and staring at all the covers of all sorts of movies.

There's still to this day an open Family Video rental store in Pittsburgh. $1 for 5 nights. Truth be told its actually kinda awesome. I go out of pure nostalgia.

When I was a kid we watched the toxic avenger cartoon, so one weekend we rented some films and grabbed 'the toxic avenger' not realizing the difference between the cartoon and the live action troma films. It was a surprising Sunday lunch.
