Hasbro didn't 'get it right' because the figures weren't based on the animation models, the animation models were loosely based on the pre-existing figures. These were originally part of an obscure Japanese toyline called Microman/Microchange. A toyline from Takara that ran parallel to their Diaclone robot toyline, all of which predated the Transformer re-branding.

Wrong. You got it backwards. Do a web search, & you’ll see what I mean. Rumble is black & red, & Frenzy is all blue. I think where the confusion comes from is that in the original cartoon series, they kept calling Frenzy Rumble. In the toys, Frenzy is blue. It’s funny no 1 knows anything about Buzzsaw (the repaint that was packaged with Soundwave).

& I did find the things that you guys mentioned, but I also found a scan of the old comic book. I’ll try to attach the link… but Brawn took out Rumble on this (who’s black & red), Frenzy (who’s all blue) took out Brawn. So some explain that to me.

i thought it was frenzy and rumble but with piledrivers for arms (thats what it looked liked in the picture they didnt explain that it was an upgrade set (glad i never got one)

Then could someone explain to me why in the old G1 comic books (not the newer stuff… but the stuff in the 80’s) that Rumble is red & black? Or blue since in the 80’s Marvel didn’t use black ink as color filler. When you look at his character bio… he’s black & red. I have almost all the color variations of the figure, & I always assumed it was a screw up from being translated from Japanese. I did a search before leaving a post to make sure I got my facts straight before I spoke…

I have to say that the folks at crazydevy put a lot of thought into the products they release. I am considering the upgrade sets for my G1 Devastator. I am curious how you think the upgrade sets on your Devastator have held up and if you would recommend them after having the upgrade sets for a while now. I have seen your video reviews of them and know you initially said to get them. I am merely curious if your opinion has changed or if it is the same. Thanks for your great reviews.

Yeah he did: Used em on board Astrotrain alongside Rumble to take down Devastator in the movie. And thats just one instance.

I think these add-ons are just awesome for making G1 casettes of Rumble and Frenzy look accurate. For me I'm going to pass, for G1 collectors they should buy it for nostagia sake. Good review, Optibotimus.

In the comics was frenzy blue and rumble red, in the cartoon is rumble blue and frenzy red and as toys was was frenzy blue and rumble red. A side not was rumble red in the Swedish dub of the cartoon and frenzy blue.

Nice looking set. I like the guns and heads. Don't like the piledrivers. The ones Maiden Japan makes are better looking and they copied his idea of sliding on the piledrivers.

@optibotimus well it did say forming pildrivers attach to existing arms but it didnt look like it (looked like completely separate arms) and it said "add on waist" looks more like a complete pelvis (but that doesnt really matter) oh and it said "removable face" is that right?
