Chinese territory only includes 20 Nautical miles of the Chinese coast. I do not see anything unsafe on this fly-by. They knew of each other. From video is hard to tell which airplane was moving near to other. If chinese "Suchoj" would be the plane which moves to the right to US plane, we would see movement of it's controls - rudder or ailerons and at least the chinese plane would tilt to the right what not happend. There is a rule that if you want to move from side to side behind the plane, you do it that way like US plane it probably did - you move a litte bit under the plane in front of you, because logical - you got cockpit on top of the plane so you got better visibility for maneuveur. So I assume that US plane was the plane which this "safe" maneuver did... 🙂

That would be great if they were both flying fighter jet platforms, which they are not. The Rivet Joint - RC-135 is essentially a converted jet cargo frame and is not designed for high speed maneuvering like the Chinese J-11.

lookup the B-70 bomber crash, it was only a close formantion flying and it cause the mid-air collision, same thing happen in 2001 south china sea, cause a E-2 emergency landing to China hence they reverse engineer the radar technology on E-2, so they have their own AWACS capability 10 years later. the b70 program cost 2.5 aircraft carriers at the time, which mean just a close formation flying for photo ops takes down an aircraft carrier worth of military hardware.

Seems like China's plans are going really well in Africa. They now own and built a new military base in Africa, and they are not stopping there. Those pilots are in communication with each other in the air and have practiced those maneuvers with each other over and over again for years. Two military aircraft from non-alied countries, piloted by pilots who likely don't speak the same language, and in the case of the U.S. spy plane don't know the other's intentions, are a vastly different thing. It's not that hard to see the difference

It's international air space. The Russians try to do this in North American air space all the time as well. Difference is norad does not fly childishly when intercepting.

China doesn't do it near our borders because they lack the range and capability, due to having only two awful aircraft carriers that are old Russian junk and not having any allies near North America to station at. Russia tries this constantly near Alaska and we promptly intercept them safely away. This is international airspace, outside of Chinese Maritime borders, so it's open territory. If they don't like it, do something about it: but I can assure you it will only end poorly for them

That little jet has some balls. The RC135 flys right over top of my house a few times a year doing touch and go’s from the airport down the road from me. That thing is huge and loud! Ps the plane (RC135 rivet joint) is a reconnaissance plane.
