Tossing him out forever solves nothing and teaches nothing. Keep in mind this kid is in 8th grade. A year suspension is both adequate and fair. The hope being he still participates in the program but can’t compete. The worst thing you can do for this kid is take away that activity and give him nothing to do. Like Chael P Sonnen said, you need to give that kid a routine, keep his mind focused on building a skill, and send his ass home tired every day. He’s an 8th grader who aint perfect and is finding out he has to work on some things about himself if he wants to be a part of society. There are criminal charges coming his way he will have to answer to as well. So you can’t say we have become to accepting of that behavior from children. He is paying, and will pay for this. But, i find no value in just ruining an 8th grader’s life over a first offense.

It wasn’t even a close match. Dude tech falled him. For those who don’t know wrestling that means cooper beat him by 15 points. I teach my 7 year old son that you win like a man and you loose like a man. It doesn’t matter if you beat your opponent or he beats you. You shake his hand and go on to the next match. I wrestled at OP graduating 1965. Cooper Hill's parents should demand a criminal battery ubder the IL Criminal Code-not OP's minimal ordinance violation law. In addition, a civil suit for aggravated damages-say $10,000 should also have a corrective impact on the defendant's poor conduct in sports.

Taking the sour kid out of wrestling might be the wrong move. The other wrestlers will put him in check real quick after seeing what he did. Hold the kid accountable and assign him tough labor duties for a year. By keeping the angry loser in wrestling, the other wrestling kids will discipline him.
