Just finished SR1 today, started SR2 immediately after! I'll probs have to go back, though, to get all the achievements I missed. It's been a blast experiencing the series again, both through the remaster and through watching you :) I think of all the bosses, I like Rahab's design and voice the most. Especially his little vestigial legs! Dumah is a close second, though that's more from this remaster.

I’m sorry but I find you just so dang adorable. Your little giggles after some sentences. It’s fun watching someone who loves this game so much enjoying it.

I remember playing Soul Reaver for the very first time on the PS1 all those years ago, and completely misinterpreting Ariel's cryptic hint "like a corpse in a shallow grave, corruption rises to the surface..." I found the Nupraptor's Retreat / Stone Glyph area long before I ever noticed the climbable wall in the Sanctuary - I figured one of Nosgoth's earthquakes had uncovered the stone skull hidden ages past and thought that was Ariel's meaning about the corpse :D I don't know how long I spent, jumping from the various cliffs and jawbone area, shifting between planes and exploring every inch of the stone glyph shrine and the retreat looking for the right path to continue. I played the demo of the Sunlight Glyph area you mentioned on another PS1 game "The Unholy War" as the demo was included with that game. Soul Reaver Remastered is an amazing piece of work, and you can see the dedication and care that has gone into it, and I'm glad both original fans and newcomers to the Nosgoth world and story can enjoy it all anew.

1:15:03 - What the heck?! I've never seen vampires scrap before! xD Even after 25 years, I'm still learning new things!

Yes was a rare random occurrence in the original too! Usually happens in the cathedral with the Zephonim!

Excellent playthrough and commentary. I played SR2 at launch, and at first I thought that the Sarafan Stronghold was the same location as the Drowned Abbey, but in the past. It would make so much sense, given that the Elder God describes the Abbey as a sanctuary against the vampire menace.

*Yet another excellent playthrough!* 🍻 Couldn't watch it entirely last evening, sorry haha! Regarding the Fire Glyph, I was surprised when you used the torch instead of the Fire Reaver honestly, but it's only because I always use the Fire Reaver, as we get it just prior. However, I can't go through this section without reminding the playable demo that came out before the game's release, which featured this very level. My dad has some SR1 and SR2 demos which I also played, that's why. I remember there was no Reaver, and we had to just get the torch from that pool as you showed, there was otherwise, really, no other way. 👍 I was just surprised they kept this in the full game. Would've been more interesting for the Fire Reaver to be required at that point. Would've given it even more purpose imo.

I know the tomb guardian inherited Turel's dialogue after he got cut from the game, but I do find it narrativly fascinating when one considers that he's the only vampiric enemy outside of Kain and the brothers who's retained his sense of self and able to talk.

Or perhaps all the Turelim are like that (they seem the most intelligent and humanoid of all the vampiric variants), and he's just the only one who chose to make it plain?

There 100% should be a trophy/achievement for TK-ing that one dude off of Nupraptor's jawbone, I'll die on this hill.

Loved your video of your playthough for the game.Ive played all Legacy of kain games back in the day on the PS1 and PS2.I just got the platinum trophy today on Soul reaver and I saw u were trying to get the trophy for gliding for 30 seconds without updraft,I got it strange enough in Zepions cathedral in the second updraft where you drop the 2 pipes, but if you just glid there for 30 seconds and drop on a pipe you can get the trophy, I know it sounds pretty cheesed but it worked for me 😆

Thank you for watching! Yes in part 4 I go and do that to get the achievement haha!

58:38 Continuing on with my train of thought... I was about to say that "Even back in the day, the original game used to glitch out like that, where the next part of the world just wouldn't load in, you could jump into the void and an ominous message would appear and say "Streaming". That was on PS1 too."

It took me over 3 hours to get that darn "Don't Get Your Feet Wet". Countless retries, then took a nap, then tried again. Got it on 2nd attempt after nap. Brutal. I have fallen off the climbing wall when you reach the top. I have had a fishman on the platform where you shift knocking me instantly to the water. I've had the camera swing around while gliding between pillars, focus on the head of Raziel and hiding his feet from view. I've had Raziel fall off the pillars while slowly creeping forward while crouching (he slides forward and off the pillar locked in the crouch position until he hits the water and dissolves). I even once got stuck in a glide over 3 beams before he suddenly dropped like a rock (he did not descend during the glide).

19:25 - One of the discontinued features of this game that I sorely missed in SR2 was the ability to auto-fire Reaver projectiles with the simple press of the triangle button (i.e., without entering manual aiming camera mode). This made dealing with vampire wraiths and those pesky fleeing sluagh (which you before had to chase down) SO much easier! It also facilitated block moving, blasting enemies into water, fire, spikes, etc. I can appreciate what they were trying to do by spicing up the combat in SR2 with a "heavy attack" option, but it was a real shame they did away with a dedicated "shoot/throw" button :(
@BezoRazo12 күн бұрын
It occurs to me that a neat little fix for this would've been to program triangle to only be a heavy attack when locked on to an enemy (while holding R1, or whatever the auto-face button is), but to have it function the same way it did in SR1 when not locked on

@@BezoRazo yes so true! And the fact that you lose all glyphs. I get that they didn't want you over levelled... But why keep things like climbing, phase, and swimming which all came from bosses, but not glyph spells or constrict?
