So many naive people in the comments hurts. You guys buy birds without informing yourself beforehand and then come on these videos to comment nonsense because the bird didn't fall in love with you within 3 days. Some even complain that the bird will 'only' sit on their shoulder, but ignore that that's the first big step and progress.
@houseofno
@houseofno 3 жыл бұрын
Be patient. Move slowly. Be gentle. Win the bird's trust by demonstrating you're not going to harm the bird. Never lash out or strike the bird. Always let them see what you're doing. They bite only out of fear or defense.

I had a cockatiel named spike. Best bird I ever had and he was obsessed with me. He always wanted to be near me and I eventually got him to recognise my specific whistle while it was dark and even made his own short recognition chirp so he didn’t panic. Unfortunately he died about a month or two ago now. Fuck I miss that bird

You will never regret getting a hand tamed one I absolutely adore my baby! Initially I didnt want one, since I had a couple as a child and they were very aggressive. Hand taming makes a HUGE difference. My little girl prefers hands and shoulders over anywhere else and demands attention and scritches all the time So cute

When you get your cockatiel while it's still young, handfeeding it first and allowing them/it to roam free 24/7 helps a lot. It worked for the ones l had and still have.

I got my cockatiel when she was 18 years old. She was afraid at first but she warmed up to me pretty fast. She is an old lady with a damaged wing but she seems happy. She likes to dance. She likes to come very close to my face. But she shies away from my hands. It's an old lady, so I'm not gonna put real pressure on her to hand-tame her. I'm glad she looks healthy, happy and curious.

I found a cockatiel alone at a normal pet store when I was younger. She was fully grown, they didn’t know her age. She flew out of the cage right to me, and she’s been my little girl since. A few years go by and I decide I want to get her a friend so she isn’t alone when I can’t be with her. I found a breeder, and selected a baby cockatiel. He was so sweet at first, he was okay with scratches and everything else. I don’t know when it switched, but he has become so aggressive I have no idea what to do. He isn’t even nice to my sweet girl anymore. To me it seems like he gets so protective of her and then gets so angry he can’t contain himself. He hates hands, he will only step on my hand when I take him out of the cage. Sometimes he will see me petting my girl, and come over and put his head down, and then draw blood when I try to pet him. I’m really at a loss here..

I had rescued a 2 year old cockatiel named buddy. The original owner didnt know that she had to spend time with him and give him lots of attention. All she did with him was give him food and water. Hes very scared of people. He will hiss and try to attack you. Ive gotten to the point where i can feed him from my hand but he will not do that with anyone else and he will hiss and try to attack other people in my household. He never really seems comfortable at all, although he is getting better and he will sing most of the day and screech to come out of his cage. I use sunflower seeds with him as that seems to win his heart he also loves millet. Hes never had a bath before (he never had the choice to as the owner used like a water bottle for his water.) so first i tried to mist him with a spray bottle, but he doesnt seem to like it. Ive given him a choice of bathing himself as he has a bowl of water in his cage i always put in fresh everyday. The lady said that hes also never had fruit & veg she stopped giving it to him as he wouldnt try it. Im trying to work on that at the moment. I really need some advice please 😅 sorry for the long comment.

Well a couple of weeks ago, their 4 year old grabbed Gabby and twisted her neck, she died a week later (they claimed to not have enough $ to take her to the vet but went on vacation). I spent that whole week with the both of them and comforted them. The survivor, Gracie, is now TERRIFIED of hands but every time I walk past she chirps loud as hell and scampers to the cage door. I feel so bad for her and plan on taking her into my care.

Patience and persistence. It's difficult to tame two birds at the same time, but not impossible. Try to focus on one at a time, once one of them is comfortable with you, the other will see that you're not dangerous. Try to offer a spray of millet, hold it in the corner of the cage twice a day for 5 minutes. It might take a while, but it's always possible

Hi I have a wild male cockatiel and a female hand tamed one. We are trying our best to tame the wild one but he is absolutely terrified of hands. Its been months without success. He does however eat from hands but wont let us touch him. What shall we do? We tried teaching him step up without success.

I am considering adopting a 2 year old that is fighting with his brother. Is it a bad idea? I had my previous bird from 2 months until he passed at 27 years old.

i just got my baby tiel , he’s 5 mos old. he’s so scared he barely ate drank any water or slept the first day. day 2 he started playing with his toys and I seen he broke one toy and was chewing through it, i calmly took it out from his beak and hand fed him :( i was so shocked but happy that he’s finally eating. I definitely took the toy down so he won’t choke. but day 3 he won’t come out his cage still. it’s okay i’m letting him get familiar ( i leave his cage door wide open so he knows it’s safe to come out). for some reason he panics or has anxiety attacks and starts looking for someone, perhaps another bird? it scares me because he runs all around the cage falling and screaming.. i don’t know what triggers him. he’s also blind out one eye he was born like that🙁 i think maybe that has something to do with it… any tips or advice ?

Do they hiss and bite? Have you tried going near the cage and putting your hand against it?
