That Nintendo Power Zelda comic is pretty outstanding. It ran from Volume 32-43 during '92 (I think along with the Mario Bros comic). The artwork is by Manga legend Shotaro Ishinomori who decided to loosely follow the story rather than spoil the game. ... and it was re-released in a large-format paperback in 2015, This is where I got all of the useful info in this comment.

Absolutely. PDF's don't cut it either. I think I'd be more depressed if I lost my early video game magazines than my actual video games in a fire. There's just a huge nostalgic factor in those mags that can't be replaced.

There's something charming about just how blatantly old magazines would lie and deceive their readers prior to the internet. It's always funny to revisit and be reminded about how lucky we are to have the modern internet at our disposal 24/7 lol

24:59 Legitimately the best acting Dave has ever done on the show! Also, you can hear Dave drop the magazine at 25:07, then in the next shot he has it in his hand and drops it again. I enjoyed this episode, it's nice to see you guys switch up the pace now and again and keeps the show fresh.

GamePro was the magazine I'd get after I'd smashed through EGM and C+VG (from Europe) and still had some pocket money left over and wanted to read up on more stuff. Later on I as I got older Edge and Next Generation were my go to magazines. Still loved EGM, but those two seemed to suit my tastes more with their more professional and mature approach to articles and interviews.

For anyone who has no idea who or what EGM's Sushi-X was, an easy way to describe him is that he was essentially Deadpool but instead of being a fourth-wall breaking mercenary comic book character, he reviewed video games. His specialty was fighting games, fitting since the character was a ninja.

You need to cover issues of Die Hard GameFan from 1992-2001 and Gamer's Republic. Gamfan had some of the best screenshot spreads from 90's era gaming magazines, and their editors were half way insane.

Never was lucky enough too get many game magazine's growing up. I remember about 14 years ago when I was about 15-16 I got about 3 game magazine's in a short space of time. That was the only time I got proper magazine's growing up, they was for the PS2 and came with some demo disks, I remember one of them had burnout revenge and it was the most awesome demo I ever played. All these year's later I have just purchased my very first game magazine since. I don't own any consoles at the moment so it wasn't something I would really look for but I see it on the shelves in whsmiths and just had too have it. It is called retro gamer annual, so I guess its one a year and it cost a tenner but it has 164 pages of iconic games and consoles from arcade, snk and Sinclair too Atari, Sega and commodore and much more. Very awesome magazine, if you love KZbin gaming channels like this one here then this magazine is for you and is quite literary like a magazine version of all the best bits of some of my favorite gaming channels.

I was subbed to Electronic Gaming Monthly and still receiving issues up until last year. Most people weren't even aware that they came back after shutting down, this time it was headed again by it's creator Steve Harris. Unfortunately they couldn't keep things going and shut down again, but only after releasing 32 issues. I was subbed to EGM from issue #1 - May 1989 (until) issue #267 - September 2015... and now have a complete set of all 269 issues of EGM. I wish they could have kept it going, but all good things...

This episode caught me off guard right in the feels. It took me right back to 1990 in the kitchen of Angies Pizza in Parma, Ohio washing dishes. My buddy Al (still friends) brought EGM Issue 16 to work, purchased at our corner Fox Drug. This was the earliest real "System War", and it was fun debating if SNES or Genesis was better, and if TG16 CD was worth the cash. This episode made me miss buying magazines and reading them with friends. It made me miss going to the local game store and just hanging out talking about games. It made me miss local co-op, and having local actual friends to play with, and then wandering to the arcade and dream about buying a Neo Geo. I really love your channel. +1

I do have one small correction though, the Lynx totally rulz and will eat your lunch. Other than that mistake, this was a great show. Thanks dudes!

The era of video game magazines, especially pre-internet, was a special one for me. I read so many of these, and made it a point every month to buy as many as I could find. Sure, most of the games covered each month were the same, but reviews were different and there was often an exclusive story here or there which made each magazine worth reading. Really loved the editing and effects in this episode-- and, yes, I *might* have taken extra glances at some of the articles on the screen. If you do another one of these episodes down the line, I'll definitely watch it.

I remember once in art class using the cover of the r-type issue and copying it for class in pencil. When you showed the game players Magazine with the Castlevania special you passed the advertisement for the cabinet that turned your NES into a game cabinet. I always thought it was neat when I saw it at the Toys R Us store. But who wants to stand in front of a cabinet at home playing your video games? Kind of silly now when I think back on it.
