It's more the weaponry than the legs. Weapons like the gatling, stun needle, shotgun, and certain melee like lance and pile driver completely invalidate any sort of difficulty the game has. While using anything else against bosses is ultra hard mode.

@@AntiTheory This is the most relevant thing you can say to "counter" Dunkey's point. People out there making fun of Malenia because she just sits there and dies when a rivers of blood user with mimic tear just mauls her down by literally pressing L2. This is not where the finesse of ER is shown, and no one uses these examples to illustrate how good ER is or isn't.

You know it’s funny, I think you’re gonna lose some people by calling this game easy given how I’ve seen people struggle, but you’re not wrong, that was one of my biggest complaints. I think the throwaway enemies could’ve put up more of a fight, and I think it’s too easy to settle into an OP build like you did. That’s why I feel that the best way to enjoy this game is to go out of your way with the customization even when you find something that works, but I realize few people will do that.

It would have been interesting if enemies adapted to your build like enemies adapt to your playstyle in MGSV, so it makes you change your build friquently. It should do adapt slowly though, not like every mission.

Hopefully expansions can give the enemies more variety. The PVP looks pretty epic, but I've not seen any review mention it. It seems like From put all the eggs in making the players very rewarding, but it would have taken a lot of development effort to really make intelligent NPCs which use the same system as the player.

Bro, you learn to appreciate those comfy EZ money missions after doing shit that intense. Like, it's important to remember that the Gameplay of Armored core is "Killing People for Money." It's not about how easy it is to kill trash mobs in AC, that's always been part of the game. It's about HOW CHEAPLY can you wipe out an entire field of enemies. Cause at the end of the day, being a merc isn't about how you feel about killing other people for money, it's about how you feel about yourself when you realize you wasted a 600 Credit plasma Shell to kill an 800 credit chicken walker when you could have just literally run over it instead.

The hardest boss in the game for me was the first Balteus because I didn't have a good build for fast burst. Once I realized that all the guns suck past what looks like a medium range but in this game is in fact a very long range...the game became much easier when you just stick to the boss like glue. I'm really digging the game as my introduction to the mech genre. I think it's main appeal might be that it's something a wider audience can get behind. Specifically for me I don't have a ton of time (Work, School, Wife, Son) so it's nice to play a from soft game where I can bang a mission out in twenty minutes or so. Playing Elden Ring in this particular point in my life was kinda like working a second job, Armored core 6 is kinda like ballistic therapy.

This explains it exactly. Elden Ring and AC6 have very different philosophies in gameplay. With Elden Ring, you're basically committing yourself to a long adventure where you need to play smart and cautiously to make progress in a dungeon or a new area. You play a squishy human taking on Demigods and their armies of heroes and monsters, and you really feel it playing through the game. In AC6 it's the exact opposite, you are the hero, the ace pilot, the super special army killer. You get in your custom made war machine, plow through tons of MT mooks, lesser pilots, and specialized machines within a few minutes, get paid and go home. It's quick, painless, and very fun! Just hop into a mission or two and you can plow through them in under an hour, nice and easy way to relax after a long day of work. Overall I absolutely love AC6, was definitely my game of the year after playing through six times and getting all ending and logs. I'm definitely hoping for more AC games in the future, maybe even remakes of the older games if we're lucky.

I find it interesting how Dunkey thought it was one note, because my feeling were the exact opposite, I was constantly changing thing around and trying out new weapons, and the mission variety is so good that even simple missions have a unique twist to them, I was not hyped for this game, at all, I played a bunch of AC games before this one and I honestly didn't believe From Software would be able to make a follow-up to them, and the previews they released didn't feel me with confidence, however, I was very pleasantly surprised by AC VI and it quickly became my game of the year, even dethroning RE4R for me, it really felt like From Software was firing from all cylinders with this game and I don't expect then to be able to make such a good game ever again.

They wanted players to be able to stick to a single build they liked while at the same time incentivcing players to switch builds around on the fly, but they failed to realize what the overwhelming majority were actually going to do - pick the most op shit out there and stick to it. This is why i love previous fromsoft games. They figure out what they want players to experience and reconsider the old formulaic core systems in games that most game developers take as self evident, and then hone their games in that single direction. Example: the estus flask, a genius invention. They realized the feeling of stakes and risk in games were too low, it never felt like you were in danger, so instead of just rising the difficulty, they took some of your health and put it into a bottle, slapped a cast time on it, and now you have much bigger and risks while also creating a new gameplay element in fighs having to create space and openings to heal. Armored core felt much more like they just redid old formulas without considering what was needed.

There hasn't even been a patch to fix any game breaking bugs because there haven't been any. I don't remember a launch this smooth since games came out on disks. This game even has support for triple monitor resolutions! I know it's niche, but that's exactly my point

Yeah for real, the fact that he thought it was just mindless monkey destruction is literally the point lmao. If you stop for a single second and read a description or listen to the dialogue, you realize all the “bad guys” you fight are written like anime protagonist’s. They scream “FORGED IN ASH WE WILL FIGHT AS ONE!” As you emotionlessly gun them down they refer to you and your team as “vultures”. Or you slaughter a teenage student pilot as he says “I think I’m getting the hang of this, my training is starting to pay off.” All the descriptions of the Rubicon Liberation Front’s people read like origin stories for esteemed good guys fighting for the cause. All your partner’s origins are people who gambled and are overly cocky thugs starting fights with people and who hate their bosses. You play as the silent top assassin for the shadow villain in a shonen anime, except you win every single time. The point is that you don’t pay attention to what you’re doing as you commit atrocities against the good guys in a amoral corporate hellscape lol.

For me AC6 is a true fun nonstop action game. Especially going from BG3 where one quest might take me as long as 10 missions in AC6. It's this unrelenting pace broken up only by short briefings, that give a glimpse of a story which you can put together or completely ignore, which just makes me play untill I drop at 3am. True standout to me were the characters. Over 3 playthrougs I got so familiar with everyone and there was not a single one I didn't like (snail.II. is a character I love to hate so he doesn't count). Warming up to Walter, Arye being with me for the whole ride, Rusty and so many more. Is it for everyone? No, just like other Fromsoft titles Is it balanced? It's probably more broken than you can imagine Is it an extremely fun game? For me absolutely ps: I also encountered 0 bugs, crashes, glitches or technical problems on PS5 and that is something I can't say about any game I played in recent years.

This game really reminds me of playing handheld games as a kid - something that you can pick up when you've got a little free time to bang out a few missions then put back down until the next time. Most of the content isn't very hard but isn't completely braindead either, especially when it comes to the occasional bosses which can either be "challenging but fair" or "locked in a closet with Orphan of Kos and Melania, Blade of Miquella but with missiles flyin' all over the place". I get where some people are coming from when they say that most of the game is too easy because If I'm being completely honest, it can get monotonous when you find something that works and don't bother trying different or weird stuff, or if you never find some of the more challenging hidden enemies in certain levels. But... if you have the time to actually sink your teeth in, you start listening to what the characters are saying in briefings or missions, and you seriously engage with the building mechanics and learn the intricacies of how your stats affect your combat efficacy... you start to realize that the game has so much more going on. It reminds me a lot of MGSV too, which I guess makes sense since that was a big console/PC release trying to emulate the feeling of the handheld Peace Walker (I know that many AC games were on console but even those that did had the lower budget/indie old-school arcade bullet hell feel that these days gets relegated to handhelds). The structure of choosing missions from a menu rather than a strictly linear story in a semi-open world, the amount customization that drastically changes the flow of gameplay, the cryptic and often overlooked storytelling where you have to actually pay attention to and invest in the story enough to search for answers yourself and make inferences based on information you've gathered through repeating missions (which goes over a lot of people's head's and they quickly write it off as bad, boring, or unfinished) - all of these things very much remind me of MGSV. People generally liked that game, but like AC6 there was a lot of criticisms that missed the mark simply due making surface-level judgements. I have a feeling that, like with both MGSV and Death Stranding, Dunky will come back once the initial first impression wears off and give this game a little more credit than he did here. Definitely not saying he shit all over it, I agree with a lot of what was said, but I think he was just missing what others who took to it right away were seeing.

Well, I sticked with it though and now I have completed it three whole times to get every ending, beating every mission and now I'll probably go for every S rank. I fell in love with it once I got more used to the mechanics and my favorite thing is how your creativity and experiments are really rewarded, there's so many fun builds you can create and if they don't work against a specific situation you can tweak or scrap it in a few minutes and destroy that boss with a completely different approach. I have made over 10 different builds I like to play with and each has their pros and cons, so I find myself swapping them based on the type of mission or enemy, rather than always using the same one. You can go for a crazy build and try to tank every hit but that may not always work out. Enemies have varying types of weapons and most importantly timing. Lots of what is shown in the video is Dunky going back with weapons to replay missions, which there is nothing wrong with. Also, if you’ve ever played a From Soft game, you should be well aware that once you figure out the timing for mob enemies and most bosses the game could be considered brainless after the second run. They are essentially there to make you waste ammo or give you bonus pay if the mission says. I think the narrative is what makes this game great. It's not often you play a mercenary who is a genuine mercenary. Most of the time, you do one mission where blow up a portion of some army, then the next will be you filling in the gap you just created in that same army. It's crazy because you get very rich very quickly, and you get stronger and stronger. The stronger you get, the more damage you can do, and the more the corporations and rebels have to rely on you to achieve their objectives. I haven't beaten the game yet, but I love what I've seen thus far.

EXACTLY it’s been super fun to literally just be a character who likes being paid and isn’t concerned with the visions of the forces he’s being paid to fight for. I agreed with Dunkey at release, but as I play more and experiment with various build options and PvP it becomes a different experience which made me appreciate how much freedom you're given with its customisation. As I got better and no longer needed the 2x Zimmermans cheese I began to enjoy the game much more. It's not Dark Souls and has its own merits like the amazing 3d combat with great movement options, cool mech-building system and the fact that it's much less tense than Soulslikes, making for a fun relaxing experience. I think the characterisation of the various actors in Rubicon's conflict were done very well and by the end I felt emotional when certain difficult choices had to be made. I'd give it a very solid 8+, hope From continues the series.

For those of us that were already a fan of Armored Core it's nice to be able to play one of them again, but it's never going to be a Souls game. I'm glad that he was able to break away from that and critique it based on how the game itself is instead of just sticking to hating on it for not being Souls, which is how I see some people react.

The problem is people like Vaati and other clickbait souls youtubers oversold the game on being a "souls" type game. Even though they technically never said that it would be a souls game, they were constantly pointing out "souls elements" in each and every bit of the trailers. And that really led a lot of newer fans down the wrong track because outside of a few bosses, the game plays absolutely nothing like a souls game. And thank god it doesn't. Playing a tank build with miniguns/zimmermans in AC6 is like choosing to play a magic build in a Souls games. You've opted to play on the easiest difficulty by picking the OP build. That's an intentional mechanic that the devs have discussed. From don't like devaluing the challenge by having a Easy>Normal>Hard setting, so they just let you pick how hard you want the game to be by picking the tools you use to approach the challenge. So they intentionally designed a few builds that could beat every boss, as a fallback for people who hit a wall or just want to turn their brain off. Dual miniguns was one of those builds, as stated by the devs in an interview. If you want the game to be harder? Play a different build. That aspect of From design is still the same here.

I think this game is more accessible than elden but later levels and especially going for S rank it can be much more complex and mentally taxing, especially if you actively engage with the movement and combat system. Lower barrier to entry but imo feels like it has a higher skill ceiling. But similar to elden ring, you kinda get to decide your own difficulty, slap on all the biggest guns and heaviest armor and no brain your way through stuff, go ultra light weight and manual aim, I really like being able to play however I want and experiment with different builds. It’s worth mentioning that since you can resell your mech parts for 100% their value you get to try stuff out a lot more than you were able to in elden ring, it lets you find a play style you enjoy and experiment a ton until you find something you’re comfortable with.

Yeah, the mechanical complexity of the boss fights and mech battles can be off the charts in this game; it's just that you have the option to circumvent the act of engaging with all of those mechanics by choosing a build with a simplistic playstyle, which is fine, but it annoys me when people complain about the game being too easy when they go out of their way to make it that way for themselves-- like people whining that Elden Ring was easy but also saying they used spirit summons on every boss.

@@Ralathar44 You gotta look up the definition of household name bro. Armored Core has never been a household name, Call of Duty would be a game that's actually achieved that. Also, AC6 is a linear action game, not a live service game. It's pretty clear that it's not meant to have a gigantic playerbase for over a year. You're literally just reaching for reasons to hate on the game's success lmao.

I really appreciated that it's clearly a full game. This isn't a beta, it's not early access, it's nothing released by EA. There's no battle pass, no priority access, the deluxe version gives items you can get in game, and the whole thing just functions perfectly. I ran into 0 bugs, 0 bullshit, and 0 time wasting garbage. The missions are in and out in 5-20 minutes, no boss run backs, easy customization changes on the fly for bosses. It was just a fun, complete game with incredible movement and satisfying weapon play.

To say "the game doesn't hold up under any scrutiny" is completely ridiculous. How about fun? This game is pretty fun. There is nothing more important for a game than to be fun and this game completely holds up on this area. Donkey even says it, he had a lot of fun. How about gameplay? the gameplay is top notch. How about the environment? how about how polished it is? how about music and sound? you can't get better than this. How about performance? it runs smooth as butter and the list goes on and on. This guy is being too harsh, too negative. He clearly had different expectations for the game and he is being all cranky kong about it.

I think it's kind of sad that we are at the point where the discussion about from soft games always boils down to whether or no the game is hard, and apparently that is the main factor that determines the game quality for a lot of people, and this goes both ways (it's bad because it's too easy, it's bad because it's too hard)

Analysis is always done from the point of relating the work to other relevant data. For many people, they have basically nothing to work with for armored core except that fromsoft made it. So that's all that comes up. Not how it compares to its genre, its own series, its own intentions and goals, but to fromsoft titles. Very flaccid review.

For good reason though. Anecdotal but I used non-meta builds up until Cel 240 and just got bored of dying to one/two shot attacks 100 times until I learn all of the attack hitboxes and dodge timings, so I switched to actually good weapons and at that point you can just stunlock the bosses and you aren't engaging with the mechanics at all. I just feel like getting hit is too punishing and really sours the game unless you enjoy one of those two styles. The middle ground I prefer being something like Monster Hunter where you can take a lot more damage and heal a lot more, and that gives them the ability to make harder and more engaging mechanics. I feel like that's what 90% of the criticisms come down to.

That's not the conversation we should be having. We should be talking about the lack of depth compared to the early armored core games. Those were harder, but they could be made easier by having a really good build and a firm grasp of the fundamentals similar to the souls games.

I win ~90% of my matches with this and I use the coral fcu, coral gen and chicken legs with the 160 weapon specialization arms and Walter's head/body. I regularly go against 16000ap+ tank "meta builds" with 8900 AP on my side and absolutely shit on them. You also run assault armor - this build has a dozen different hit combos to instantly stagger anyone.

As a person who plays mech games somewhat religiously (big Gundam fan too) this was a well needed breath of fresh air for mech fans. It's been a while since we had a mech game that worked this fluidly. I definitely agree with you as far as "it can get repetitive" with some bosses and somewhat mindless game play compared to dark souls and company. I'm positive FromSoftware will drop some sort of "word? Y'all want hard bosses?" DLC down the road once everyone gets used to the controls. If so, please give it a "Review++" lol
