It's the Pillar of August, which means it's time for a month of crazy Halo challenges. Today, the guys attempt Vidmaster Challenge: Annual in Halo 3. They'll need to beat the last mission on Legendary co-op while riding Ghosts through the end of the game - all before Geoff has to leave for the airport.

Luke Custer as someone who only ever played halo 3 on coop then got rid of his xbox 360, what is theater mode exactly? Is it like a spectator mode so one of the editors are watching? Or is it like a replay from pubg and they watched ir afterwards and edited into the video the good bits? Im just curious.

Pretty close. The whole video is saved on the xbox as an "instance" and then you can watch it back later from any angle you want. One of the coolest features of Halo 3, actually; and huge for Machinima producers back in the day.

Haven't seen this said in the comments, can we take a moment and really appreciate the editor on this video? The time in theater to get the cinematic shots, the spontaneous facecam, keeping count of every death for everyone. Even talking to Gavin about turning on facecam. One of my most favorite things about Halo 3 is that it's campaign multiplayer is lore friendly. Instead of having two or three Master Chiefs running around, it's Chief, Arbiter, and two different looking elites. I really like that, and I always like to image that the two elites were part of the group of elites that the Arbiter saved at the end of Halo 2. And from that point onward, they were loyal to the Arbiter, even to the point of going to Earth and helping the humans.

They were so much fun! Except that Heroic Firefight challenge, fuck that piece of shit. I think you only needed two for it, but fuck me it was hard. Ironically this is one of the easiest, but it's the one I never completed because me and my friends were still in middle school so you had overly-strict parents pulling the cord whenever someone was a few minutes late for dinner.

Still remember getting to the last wave of the firefight vidmaster only to get obliterated by the grav hammer brute. Those vidmasters definitely turned friends into best friends!

I did but only because I had no friends to do them with. Ironically, the ONLY Vidmaster I actually got was the Firefight one (endure?), and that was SO much fun.
