Not quite the same situation but we had the 100-W System boiler installed as a 4-pipe system to replace my aging Y-plan Thorn Apollo. IT'S BRILLIANT - we got rid of the Cylinder Stat, Room Stat, 3-port diverter, Grundfos Pump, Header Tank, Room Stat, Honeywell Programmer and wiring centre - ALL GONE! All of that was replaced by the boiler and a couple of 50p NTC Sensors - one on the cylinder and one outside for weather comp. The boiler cost £657.40 +VAT for the 11kW version - but note this outputs 17.5kW on the DHW feed. It comes with wifi so all the timing and control is done from my phone with an app. The pump, diverter and expansion vessel are all in the boiler which makes installation incredibly simple. Not sure why you changed the cylinder? - we are still using the existing vented one.

Thanks for the video - you put some faith back into plumbing. Regarding the 100W, I can only report as an end user and am pretty disappointed in the noise it makes. It replaced a Glowworm 35W installed in 1993! Given the age of the old one, I was expecting a nice low noise boiler and certainly their website and general Googling led me with this impression. It sounds like a jet engine. Luckily it's in the hallway and I'll have a look at putting insolation in the door but I feel sorry for those that have to have this thing in the kitchen.

Water quality is very important on these types of boilers,keep that in mind. If you have bad water you need to remedy that first before filling the system, then you will have no water issues. Great content, excellent delivery! My 2 cents re Viessmann: the primary HX is imo the best in the industry. Moreso, it was designed many years ago and was just spectacular compared to parrallel flow condensing HX of the time. That said, of late Viessmann made some design decisions that are peculiar - such as the rubber "car radiator" hoses to/from HX. Also, the composite water block. Granted, not many cracks due to embrittlement but... ANother gripe - poor water ingress protection for the electronics. On Opentherm - true, it's missing, but same for Buderus. Vaillant also has its own controller offering. The idea is to lock the customer in the ecosystem, not give them options. Opentherm is well, pure anathema. It's open for Chrissake! /rant begins On another note, I think overcomplexity is rampant in the industry today. E.g. Complete Combustion Control! Does a boiler need a Lambda probe? Definitely not! What about combustion "over" optimization through flame ionization analysis? Nope, not that either. It's about cost vs benefit - a good system does fine on 1:5 modulation, 1:8 or 1:10 is a lot. Adding stepper gas valves and touchy electronics (we're talking microamps here in a dirty, moist environment) is just not worth the benefit imo. Bear in mind that few systems modulate power delivery. Is Internet driven but on-off the rage? If the boiler is capable of deep modulation but used poorly (on-off) where is the gain? ant over. Thank you for your great content!

The heat only boiler looks like a Vitodens 050W to me, the combi is definetly a Vitodens 100W, correct me if I'm wrong. The 050W is cheaper and lacks some of the features of the 100W series. I'm looking forward to the 050W, because they are not available in my country yet. They are somewhat overpriced boilers, I agree on that, spare parts are pricey too but relatively easy to service and you get a decent technical support from the manufacturer. nice Video, i am a heating tech in the north east US and i have worked on and installed basically every brand boiler out there and what i find strange in your video is that the heat only viessmann is different from the combi idk if thats how it is made for the UK but not in the states. the combi and heat only model in the states is the same exact unit minus the hot water heat exchanger, but you can use those same tappings to run a hot water tank with the internal pump on priority no problem. they are a great boiler probably the best out there for easy service access and just durability. During the release of the new 100 i installed 2 combi models both 199000 btu and piped the DHW together and it works flawlessly. just strange that the heat only boiler is so different.

That Worcester CDi would appear to have never been maintained or poorly maintained as the probe set has a sight glass, they were phased out years ago and should have been replaced suggesting that if it has been “serviced” then it’s just been damp cloth and analyser, proper maintenance may have addressed the condensate leak before it became a problem and extended the life of the boiler. Personally I clean and wash the heat exchanger on a CDi every year as it’s only 2 x 10mm bolts to access, then clean out the trap and replace any failed seals, you can get the whole thing done including primary filter and all tests in 1.5 hours if there are no issues
@Martindyna
@Martindyna Жыл бұрын
Great to hear that you clean the heat exchanger every time on a Worcester, so many seem to just clean the trap & tune the burner for a `service'. I understand that the round type `heat cell' should have it's baffles removed & cleaned every 5 years regardless of the pressure drop across it on full fire. Unfortunately I wasn't aware of that on my boiler.

It's also on climate control (I wanted weather comp. but also wanted the App to set the control and was told that you either must have one or the other as the stat that enables the wireless control is also a climate sensor and you therefore can't have the weather sensor wired up - not sure if I was being mislead there?!) We currently have a 20 ish year old vaillant combi boiler, which is situated in a cupboard in the bathroom. We want to get this moved into the loft so we can make room to add an upstairs toilet (old 50s house which doesn’t have one). We also have solar PV and so we want to change from a combi to an unvented system boiler, because we want to use a solar diverter to use any excess energy from the solar to go into the immersion instead of being exported to the grid, which pays practically nothing now the FIT scheme has ended, so the savings are from using the energy rather than exporting. I think we could go a solid 8 or 9 months of the year gas free, and only use the solar PV to do everything. What do you think? 3 bed semi, 1 bathroom.

It will only take 20 minutes to fully reheat the cylinder. This allows for much higher overall efficiency as heating can be done with modulated output with weather compensation. You can’t reheat water with weather compensation as flow temperature would be too low.

One boiler install would be very difficult. Property is well over 500m2 and absolutely massive. 2 separate heating system, 2 gas meters and 2 separate mains water connections. It would actually be more expensive to run it from one boiler and reconnect water and central heating and give poorer performance and create very long dead legs on hot water. One system Ans one boiler was simply not practical.

I had the Vitodens 100-W Combi Boiler fitted a couple years ago (heating and water). Each year during winter it has stopped functioning with the F4 error code. Last time the condensate trap needed cleaning, waiting to see what the problem is this time. The heating engineer was unable to explain why it needed cleaning so early from new. From the information I can find online, the condensate trap is located right at the back of the boiler, and not an easy fix for someone with zero skills (A.K.A... me!). Booked another local engineer to come out, costing me a small fortune now!

Used to fit so many Viessmann boilers 10-20 years ago, mainly commercial but the domestic weather comp controls and original boilers were great, expensive and over engineered for a domestic market. The newer ones, expensive not as good quality, missing bits but still pricey, just overall not impressed with them for the domestic market anymore. Oh and the biggest issue - fault codes they can't find in the English or German books and actually getting spares as Telford seem to have none when you want them and Viessmann spares in southern counties depending what it is is waiting for it to come from Germany. I'd rather fit a Vailant/ Worschester or Intergas.

I looked at Viessman compared to Intergas this morning on specifications. I immediately noticed that Viessman boilers can at lowest fire to 3.2kw seemingly across the Vitodens range - the 32kw boiler can modulate down to 3.2 but so can the 11kw model, how is this possible? Intergas boilers the minimum rate is about one third of the maximum of the boiler eg the Intergas HRE 30 SB can fire between 8.20 - 26.60kw and the 18 can fire between 6.10 - 18.20KW. That would seem to be not ideal when using weather compensation and opentherm when the thermostat is setting a low flow temperature. When the house requires only a moderate amount of heat the boiler will be cycling on and off a lot - Is this true or am I missing something? I am looking around for a replacement for my over sized Promax System HE plus 32kw boiler that is cycling a lot since it only goes down to 12KW.

Why didn't you just change the doors? The heat only boiler was inside the living space. I agree with you. Viessmann are a decent boiler but way over priced. If you want a large kW 4 pipe boiler or cascading them, then Viessmann are good. Their control systems are good, especially the WC, where they do have an edge. For a single boiler installation of 40Kw or less I would tend to look at the Intergas range of boilers first. Or even using two staged boilers heating a low loss header or around a loop with close coupled tees. You highlighted the flexibility of the Intergas boiler control setup, and OpenTherm, so cheaper external controls can be used. The 200 Vidodens range of boilers are better than the 100. They are expensive as are all Viessmann products, but _not_ better build quality than Intergas. Then the Intergas leaves Viessmann behind on price.

What is the WiFi module for? Adjust temperature and modulation percentage and the like via an app? I’m not really convinced there’s anything a boiler should be telling the client via an app, except maybe a low pressure warning or the equivalent of a check engine light, let alone letting the average client adjust things, and an installer/maintainer wouldn’t really need a WiFi connection when they’re right there.
