One thing about Vietnamese people they are hard workers ! You don’t see people there begging for money, they are on the streets selling what they can to make money. You can also see the First Lady is willing to look through all her inventory just to sell him one more shirt. They are all about earning every dollar I love Vietnam. I’m here now and I’m coming back to visit every year.

brother, i lived in saigon for 12 years and i was known in BenTanh as the 10% man. i started off firmly offering 10% every time and often I got what i wanted for 10% the price. my wife , who is Vietnamese, thought I was crazy but over time she grew to know that I was the master negotiator. i went back a few months ago with my family, after 5 years, and people from the market knew me when I was walking up. Ur insight about how they will respect you more if you negotiate is spot on. having said all this, everything you bought is total crap. i subscribed.

You are correct, bargaining is expected. You are looked upon as being smart if you bargain strongly but respectfully. The vendors are good people looking to make a living like everyone. I start at 25% of the asking price and stay firm for a while, then gradually go up. Even though I know I will buy the item, I pretend to walk away. Always highly compliment the item then say that it is above your budget or what you can pay. Then the real bargaining takes place. Have fun with it and respect the vendor. Never pay more than 50% of the asking price but that is rare. Stay around the 25-30% price no matter what they say. Remember, the item you want is not exclusive. It will be elsewhere. In fact, the grapevine seems to travel fast and a vendor will approach you knowing how you bargained and offer the item at a lower price than the previous vendor. It happens more frequently than not. And always, always be respectful.

That's so kind of you ❤... The man you give the shoe and Tshirts said "No home, souvenir. Motobike... Alibaba. Telephone... Alibaba..." He mean he is homeless and you give him many, it will be stolen by thief. In Vietnam, "Alibaba" mean the thief. In the end of video, I think maybe he has a mental problem (maybe because he has had some kind of shock in his life) and that's why he holds your hand, presses your pulse with his finger to hear and say "doctor", he means he examines you.

Enjoy your video Chris. You mastered the negotiation techniques; Bargaining is the norm in the Vietnamese culture so don’t feel bad about it. Regarding the homeless man , when he said you look like Alibaba and you had no clue. Then he said “ Alibaba bay” . Bay in Vietnamese mean “fly” . He referred you to a character in the children’s book “Alibaba and the 40 thieves” . Alibaba had a beard like you and he used the flying carpet to get around. I think when he tried to hold your arm and imitated the doctor’s technique “listen to the apical pulse” because he really thought the you were ill. Only severely sick or crazy person would give him all the nice and brand new stuff. By the way Vietnamese women think long beard guy resembled Bin Laden . So be careful they may think you are walking around with bombs.

This is Vietnam. She could’ve kept hush about the 50k but didn’t. Countless times I’ve misheard and handed over 30k and they’ve returned 10k. It’s 50cents but they don’t want to cheat you. It’s to the point where I just hold out the money and trust them to take the right amount ❤️

this was great 👍 it wasnt to show whats the bottom lowest dollar but how friendly and how easy it is to negotiate with the people. negotiating will not insult them. Exactly! I didn't low ball them because they made the video great! It's important to treat these people right especially when you're making thousands off the video. Loved the Cambodian lady from Phnom Penh. Reminded me of all the lovely people I met in Cambodia. The people in Cambodia seemed way more genuinely friendly than their neighbours like Thailand and Laos. Unfortunately haven't been to Nam but hopefully going Cambodia for 3rd time end of year and will do Nam then as only hear good things.

Cool video clip, Chris. I bought those T fake name brand T shirts to wear at home, and they actually hold up very good. The material's quality was decent too. For the wallets, I suggest you spent just over $200 for a real alligator wallet. I bought one in Thailand. It has lasted many years, still going strong and looks new. I tried a fake wallet in VN. It fell apart just atfer a few days. To sum it up, some of those " fake products, although their quality can't be compared with the real ones, but some are still of high quality, since even some original name brand goods are made from Asian countries. You'll need to exam the quality of the products to skim out the good ones among them though.

I think it helps them understand English more. For some reason foreigners especially in Asian countries think Amercians speak too fast. I'm Asian-American and when I run into people who only speak Spanish, I find myself speaking English in a slower slight accent too. For me, its just something that happens and I don't intentionally do it. 🤷‍♀️

I hadn't even heard of Alexander McQueen until now. Had to look up the prices in the US, and NOOOOOOOOOO WAYYYYYYYYYYY would I ever, EVA pay that kind of money for sneakers. I'm the kind of guy who will spend $10 for a pair and then wear them for 10 years, so about $1 a year! Now that I have moved to the Philippines, I don't wear sneakers, but sandals everywhere. No more socks either! yayayayayaya. Interesting video. Perhaps one day I will visit Vietnam.
