Reminded me that the first guitar I ever loved was one of the American style Ricks (and now I see why I never found a Rose-Morris f-hole version) that Dave always wanted, and how I enjoyed the 12-string. Fortunately the Phantom Guitar Works has an affordable 12-string that fits in my plan.

I have gone weeks and sometimes months of not playing at times .......AND IT SHOWS when I haven't played in a awhile. My playing is always so sloppy and 'straight and rigid' in my when I haven't played in a while. Having said that I didn't play guitar for about 10 plus years when I just stopped playing and sold everything. A major car accident, permanent spinal cord damage and loss of feeling and function in my limbs left me needing to regain and retrain my hands and fingers to work again. My neurosurgeon suggested piano playing to build up muscle memory and dexterity but having short, fat,bent banana fingers I opted for a return to guitar and bass playing to aid my rehabilitation. 14 years later and I am back playing better than I ever did in my teens and early 20's. Practice makes perfect-ish for me. Cheers lads

Super enjoyed the TPS and C&Q installments with Dave Gregory. Wonderful history and gobs of fun. That said, I am a bit disappointed that you never touched on pedal suggestions and preferences when using a 12-string. I thought surely TPS would bring that up with someone so identified with using this type of guitar. I guess you'll just have to bring Dave back to discuss and reflect!

Thank you Dan & Dave. XTC got me through so many formative moments, important times in my life. They occupy a very special place in musical history and are a major influence for me. I remember listening to English Settlement (extended version), Skylarking, Oranges & Lemons, and Nonesuch, over and over on a kind of continuous loop (CD player! 1990s yeah!) while I was dealing with a major illness. Those records and songs, they'll be with me for life. A great TPS episode and this was a lovely conversation. Now, where can I find a decent, used 12-string Ricky...

I’m not sure if this is the best place for a question outside of this episode, but here goes. I saw you cover buffers, and that was very informative! I’m curious about AB and ABY switches, do you see degradation of signal if you have multiple switches in line? I use a Moog Sub Phatty (with the external input) for a variety of effects as well as occasionally just play it through my effects board then amp, I want to go BASS>AB SWITCH ‘IN’ then AB SWITCH A>aby ‘a’ input and B>Moog with output from Moog>aby ‘b’ input with aby output to pedalboard... so I can play bass in to pedalboard, bass through Moog into pedalboard, Moog into pedalboard... Any insight is greatly appreciated, phenomenal show, cheers!

"Guitar in service of the song" immediately put me in mind of Bill Nelson and Be Bop Deluxe (try "Maid in Heaven" for a pop jewel! My first introduction to them was "Live in the Air Age" -- fantastic album). So it turns out Mr Gregory and Mr Nelson were label-mates, both with superb >hour-long interviews with "Cherry Red Records". WELL worth taking in for anyone else smitten with the TPS Gregory show + this "VCQ". Quality stuff!
@jdavis.fw3035 жыл бұрын
Definitely set a precedent for future VCQ episodes. Might be worth reaching out ahead of time to Patreons or everyone, however it makes sense, asking for questions for guest artists. Then tape a sub segment of VQC the day that artist comes in, but after you tape the regular TPS episode with them. That maintains the feel of a regular TPS episode with guest which is great and would be ruined by a questions period, but allows questions in their own segment. You guys could still do a normal VCQ segment and just edit both into a single episode. Might not be exactly like this episode since it's easy to talk to Dave Gregory after the filming date as opposed to touring artists who are there for one day, but it might still result in something worthwhile and fans will love it.
