Viewfinder in Roblox [update]

This video got more attention than I expected! Here’s a brief explanation of how it works: When you take a picture, the system creates a new part that matches the size and position of your camera’s view frustum. It then uses spatial queries (workspace:GetPartsInPart()) to identify all the parts within the frustum. Afterward, it uses GeometryService to trim any parts that extend beyond the view, leaving only the perfect image to place down later. When placing the picture down, it recreates the same view frustum part as before. However, instead of getting all the parts in the view, it uses GeometryService again to cut away everything in the frustum. Finally, it places down the parts that were cut earlier. For the squeezing feature I got the idea when I stumbled on this showcase game www.roblox.com/games/1347593653 it allows you to change the camera's view in interesting ways. It's also uncopylocked so anyone can view the code of how it works and that's basically what I used for it.

If you mean done in roblox, yeah this is the first time I've seen someone attempt this in roblox and it is impressive If you mean in general, it's actually inspired by the game with the same name, "Viewfinder" It's a puzzle game that uses that as it's main mechanic, although the story and acting is meh

It's actually is extremely simple, it takes the geometry you see and keeps it, then just changes it based on perspective and other things

This might be the most impressive use I have seen so far, aside from attempts at water physics which more often that not fail That said I wonder how he did everything else as well, feels similar to editing apps when they have a feature to turn an image to 3d(I am a newbie so idk if it's something simple)

Is this made using raycast/raytracing-ish stuff or do you just store data of everything in the viewport? I have a rough idea of how the viewport thing works but not squashing, that made me so confused lol i dont even know it was possible

No raytracing was used here, it makes a part which has the exact size and position of the camera's frustum then it uses spatial queries ( workspace:GetPartsInPart() ) to get the parts in the viewport
