@Barstool Prophet Hey, just saw this. Ugh, this is hard. I’m a Gen Xer who had bunch of older cousins influencing my musical tastes, so, let’s see... Eagles, Greatest Hits...Thriller, MJ...Purple Rain, Prince...Rumors, Fleetwood Mac...Jagged Little Pill, Alanis Morisette...oh, and I also love country. Bluegrass and southern gospel....so, Alison Krause + Union Station, Live (2002)... Best of the Gaither Vocal Band...Lynyrd Skynrd, Pronounced “Leh- nerd Skin-Erd”, and also Adele, Live at Royal Albert Hall...I guess that makes ten! If I had to live with those ten for the rest of my life, I’d say I’d do alright. How about you, my friend?!?
@redstateforever
@redstateforever 3 жыл бұрын
@Barstool ProphetOh, I’m with ya on lots of those. I love Yes, Kansas, Styx, and of course Led Zeppelin. It really is crazy hard to choose just 10. Funny how neither of us picked the Beatles. I like some of their songs, but for whatever reason, I just never got into the whole full on devotion thing. Maybe because they broke up before I was born, idk. If I could add one more it would be Journey, Escape. Don’t stop believing! Lol.

'What kind of song is this?' The 1970s AM and FM radio airwaves were a veritable cornucopia of musical styles and genres and a lot of bands that refused to be pigeonholed. I feel BLESSED to have grown up in that decade! In my humble opinion, corporations have taken mainstream music to a mundane, trite graveyard.

It is amazing how the younger generation are just know listening to Classic Rock Music, and learning to appreciate the music of this era. They really enjoying and experiencing the sounds and meanings behind each and every song. We need more young people listening to more Classic Rock Bands from the 70's and 80's. Brad has the top tier voice in Rock N Roll! My parents wore out this album in our living room growing up! Ty showed more excitement - but fun to watch all your reactions to it! Just like many others until I saw this in June - I found out they were guitars on the cover. I just knew them as spaceships. Best line is in the 2nd verse "But in my mind , deep in my mind I can't forget about you".... (paused 😉). Guitars are top tier as well!

I remember cranking this song up on my stereo in my bedroom when it first came out. Good times.. Looking back, my Generation X was blessed growing up with the best bands from the 70's and 80's. Soooo many top notch musicians during that time. Wow.

The guy with the white cap has got rhythm. He'd be a great drummer. I would know after 45 years.

I spent hours looking at Album art, and this is one of my favorites. Our planet is in the background, splitting open and spitting fire, the Starships that are acoustic guitars, with glass domes on the backs, each with a different city inside, the flames emitting out of the guitar bodies...and Starship Boston is leading the pack, to a new solar system.

Funny, what's amazing was this album was recorded in a basement studio, the effects synths made by Scholz who is an MIT-trained engineer who designed a recording studio in an apartment building basement

To the guy on the right...You're me at a party, in 1979, when I heard Boston for the first time. Hell...all of you are! :) There is so much good music from this era. Like spacey? Check out "Children of the Sun" by Billy Thorpe. :)

I absolutely love the the way that Ty is just freaking out over this song. I was 16 when it came out and I bought the album for home and the cassette for the car about 2 or 3 days after it came out. I wore the cassette out about 2 times.

You're talking about the keyboard being so fantastic, and the guitar being so fantastic. I wonder if you realize that Tom Scholz that did BOTH of them (and drums and bass) and wrote the song?

For what it's worth, it occurred in the middle of the album but I saw them in 1977 in junior high after this album dropped and oh my God was it a good show. A small to medium-sized Arena and it just sounded so good and everything about it was incredible. Something that cracks me up is that your friend there, just superficially and from a distance, just somehow reminds me at a glance of Sib Hashian, who was the drummer. Take a look at one of the album photos and squint your eyes a little bit and see what you think. 😅

Saw them live at the Cotton Bowl Texas Jam for their Third Stage album. First, they sound just like that live - they don't need a studio to sound that good. Second, had never seen a band do this: they said they released a new album and were going to play it in its entirety - and they played Third Stage. What a magical summer night!
