68 years old here. I spent from 1969 until 1979 living in Toronto doing little more than working and going to concerts, music festivals and bars with great bands.....even saw Rush playing at a tavern in 1973, and yes, Boston in 1978. I have great memories of amazing music from that era.

This whole album needs to have a deep dive done to it. Tom Scholz went to MIT and built all of the equipment and pretty much did everything himself basically in secret, behind the record company's back. (They wanted the album recorded in California) is mainly composed of songs written many years prior to their appearance on the album. Scholz wrote or co-wrote every song on the first album (with the exception of "Let Me Take You Home Tonight," written by Brad Delp, the vocalist), played virtually all of the instruments, and recorded and engineered all the tracks at home, in his basement, in Boston! Another great reaction you guys!!! I hope you will give this record the attention it deserves

Upside down guitars (actually bass guitars since, IIRC, there are 4 strings) and on the top of each guitar/spaceship is a dome under which is a city skyline (presumably Boston, though the artist was probably not from Boston, since the skylines lack Boston's familiar landmarks and are more generic in appearance). Keep in mind ONE man who could play piano, decided at 18 to learn guitar while attending MIT. By 21 he had built his own music studio in his basement, hired a man to play drums and another to sing. Everything else you hear is him. He wrote the music, played every instrument but one, recorded and edited the music. By 22 years old he had to hire more musicians to play his parts to have a stage show...they filled stadiums out the gate with this album

18 years after this album was released, Brad Delp (the lead vocalist) decided to headline a group called "BeatleJuice". It was something he did for fun. All they did was play covers of Beatles songs. But they were such incredibly great musicians that it was a privilege to hear them play. In 2005 I ran a road race in Boston and afterwards the race director had hired BeatleJuice to play. We all sat there for hours listening to these incredible musicians just crush covers of some of the greatest songs ever written. With free beer not less. We should all be so lucky

I have been listening to Boston since 1976...one of THOSE albums where they still play EVERY SINGLE SONG on the radio!

They said: Less is more; too many elements in a song (even good ones) will kill it. No band can throw everything good in rock into a single creation, and still make it a good song, let alone a classic. Boston said: Challenge accepted!

I graduated from High School in 1989, and so I grew up with this music on the radio from ages 5-20. It was magical. Yes, some good things came out of the 60's and 90's, but too much of it was crap. I won't even mention the music of the last quarter century.

Loved this reaction! Imagine being 17 when it first came out, sitting on a back country road at night with about 50 other kids a bonfire and this blasting out car stereos. I noticed you haven't reacted to any Journey from the 70's and it's actually shocking 🙂 maybe on patreon and I missed it. But I really think the Steve Perry's (lead singer) voice and music will have Patrick singing 24/7. So recommended song to start is Journey "Faithfully" ❤️

I don't know too much about Boston but I loved their song More Than A Feeling - fabulous song which I think you reacted to a while ago. This one is great too, I really like it and I would like to listen to it a few more times. I think I must investigate them a bit more and check out their other songs on KZbin. Thanks very much for your brilliant reaction, guys, really enjoyed it, so good to see how much you enjoyed this great song!

Anne, I was 13 years old in 1976 when this album (their debut) was released and I've been a big "Boston" fan ever since. You wouldn't believe how popular this album was; every song on it got a ton of airplay on the radio, and it went platinum very quickly (I think within a few months). There's a KZbin channel dedicated to the band (not sure if it's official): kzbin.info/door/J-xpa4Q7dSnbNRwuO-9t4Q Here are a few songs that I highly recommend: "Peace of Mind", "Smokin'", "Hitch a Ride", "Don't Look Back", "A Man I'll Never Be", "The Launch - Cool the Engines", and "Walk On Medley".

@@annemaclean6634 The entire debut is fantastic; all of it still gets play on our local classic rock radio channel. The 2nd (Don't Look Back) and 3rd (Third Stage) albums are also very good, but the debut is an absolute classic. After those first 3 albums, there was too much turnover in band personnel (including the lead singer) that the results suffered.

@@annemaclean6634 You're welcome! The first 3 songs in my suggestions are all on their debut album (as well as "More Than A Feeling" & "Foreplay/Long Time"). I did want to add a little more info about "The Launch - Cool The Engines" and "Walk On Medley". Technically "The Launch" and "Cool The Engines" are separate tracks, but on the album (titled "Third Stage") the former plays like an intro into the latter, similar to "Foreplay/Long Time". I haven't seen any reaction videos, but I saw a fanboy YT video that plays it over SpaceX launch images. "Walk On Medley" (on the album "Walk On") is about 12.5 minutes long, split into 4 sections like movements in classical compositions. Good listening!

On the actual vinyl LP album cover it was stated that no synthesizers or computer generated sounds were used to perform these songs. Also, the cover art is not a spaceship,, it’s a guitar. (Your looking at it from the bottom)
