In my opinion the way to use the takedown rifle is to pack it in your bag for convenience but assemble it and carry on a sling as soon as you get the chance.

Yup, they are simple clamp shell just like most of KelTec. I’m ever so happy they exist because they probably scare the other companies with their cheap and fun to shoot guns. Never survival rated IMO, but by far tops for fun at the plinking range on the farm.

So if you think about the purpose of the ruger takedown rifle, I’m sure it would only be folded up to keep in a survival/shtf bag. Once you got where you’re going in a bad situation you’d probably never fold it back up. So in all fairness I think it’s a great option if you can’t walk around your town with a rifle slung on your shoulder waiting for the zombie apocalypse.

My grandfather had a 10/22 tucked away in the basement that we found after he had passed away with a tasco scope on t. It had been down there for at least 30 years. It was rusted as all hell from the changes in humidity but we brought it to the range and it functioned flawlessly. To anyone else it would be a piece of junk but I love it.

Subsonic ammo in a 22lr is only 10-15 percent slower than standard 22lr ammo. I know it sounds like its a lot slower and less powerful when you fire it but there's not much difference. My brother and I decided to do a spur of the moment test where we fired a subsonic 22lr round straight down into a pitcher of water thinking the round would not reach the bottom. It went through all the water, the bottom of the pitcher and into my concrete floor. My wife was not happy I ruined a good pitcher. It was fun though and we learned many profound lessons. 1.Don't tell the wife anything. 2.Dispose of the evidence. 3.Never hide behind a pitcher of water in a gunfight.

Im going to say it again THIS SERIES FKN ROCKS!!My survival gun, ruger 10/22 hollowed out butt stock to fit 75rds,hollowed out front to fit Mylar blanket,50ft fishing line,6 hooks, couple weights, and storm proof matches with stricter. Knotched out side of butt stick to hold a double sided screw driver. Also detachable scope just in case it breaks.

Isaiah Ratti I can but the only thing you can see is the screw driver on the butt stock. The Mylar blanket, etc is under the barrel in the stock. The end of the butt stock I drilled, filled, and chiseled it until I could fit 75rds. It has a vortex scope with some quick release scope rings. Oh and I made a titan paracord survival sling.

I bought a ruger 10/22 carbine as a bug out gun about a year ago bought a few BX-25 mags a 110 rd drum 5k rounds put an archangel chasis on it with diamond head flip up tac sights and a small foregrip! its comfy and reliable!! you can take down plenty of game and can carry almost unlimited ammo!! if its a bug out type situation and i have to flee the safety of my home and go survive in the woods i dont think i would leave my gun in my pack folded up... but hey that is just me!!

I’d use the Ruger Takedown 10/22 for sure. Nobody is making you take it down, it’s just an option. They also sell an integrally suppressed barrel. Great quality video! Also, an Aimpoint battery lasts 5 years. If you haven’t found civilization by then, there’s no hope.

The skit was funny, but you're missing it on this one. The discussion on how long it takes to get out the takedown model isn't sensible. You can conceal the gun much more easily. That can be a huge factor when trying to survive in certain circumstances. If you don't want it broken down, then leave it assembled. Pretty simple. Good video overall, but the 10/22 takedown model is clearly more valuable than a standard.

Ruger also built a 44 mag carbine, hold 4 rounds and I think one in the chamber. The 44 mag carbine is the same size as the Ruger 10-22, light weight you can shoot rabbit, squirrels , Bears, elk ,Deer, and use for a defense weapon as well. at 50 yards you can hit a pop can with the Iron sights with see through scope mounts at 100 yards you can use the scope to hit the same pop can . Pop can is about a 2 1/2 " target, smaller than a rabbit. 44 mag makes a good defensive round too, if needed.

It's the folder for me. Lighter than the wood gun. 3 full magazines in the stock and one more in the receiver. Buy it bring it home assemble it put a sling on it and never take it apart again. Carry a sidearm for the stuff that growls back. That being said I do have my reservations about the composite stock. I wonder if it can take extreme weather conditions. Last thing I want in freezing conditions is my stock snap. I also wonder if the folding mechanism gets loose over time. No time for battle rattle.

#1 accessory is a sling. Not just to carry it but for stability. Take down is awesome for transport through less than permissive areas. I got the regular X22 TD stock not that Hunter version. Upgraded with TechSights and some Kidd internals, haven't pulled on a match barrel. Green Tag prints one hole standing with a sling at 25yd all day long. 50 sitting/prone/supported. Loved the video Guys GREAT COMPARISONS......I'm a survival instructor in my area. I have a Walmart Special but bought a 10/22 takedown several years ago and I love it. The pack is tough, compact, light weight with a shoulder strap. The pack also allows me to carry a Charcoal water filter, 100 ft paracord, additional ammo, a multitool, cleaning kit, some first aid stuff and a fixed blade knife and some GUMMYBEARS. Overall I have about 25 different items in the pack with not a lot of added weight. What I like most about it is I can store it in the back seat of my truck and no one knows the difference vs having a rifle laying out. Its quick to grab in an emergency. I've ran about 2000 rounds through it and had it out on several excursions where I live in the Southern Appalachian Mtns. NO issues. I would tend to agree that the wooden one overall probably would hold up better long term. Rugar makes a quality product and I really trust this rifle. I have to admit I love My 10/22 TD. Keep up the good work guys.

Highly recommend the Henry Classic Youth 22 lever rifle. Five inches shorter and a half pound lighter than the 10/22. The lever action is a good compromise between a bolt action and semi auto in terms of overall reliability, rate of fire for follow up shots. reliably feeds and shoots wide range of ammo from high velocity, economy bulk pack a 10/22 can be finicky about, down to 22 short subsonic. A lever action with 22 subsonic shots is a very discreet tool and the rifles general appearance to a Daisy Red Rider BB gun also can be discreet if you so have the need or desire. Plenty accurate, smooth action, decent trigger and just plain fun to speed bang cowboy action style. Youth model holds 12 rounds of 22lr, or 18 rounds of 22 short. The 13" LOP is manageable if your used to something longer. Stick with the irons as it's better for tracking fast moving game and a magnified optic is a recipe for scope eye. I love mine and it always makes the trip out to 3 gun matches for ground squirrel duty which are "shoot on sight" if within range safety rules. Good all around discreet pest control tool that does not alarm those who need not be alarmed if you get my meaning. :)

I think the benefit to the fold-up one would be for people that are like throwing together a bag to be prepared like Bush pilots and fishermen. This would be a great option for ATV years and snowmobilers you keep it wrapped up in a garbage bag in your backpack or in your saddle bag on your snowmobile or back box on your four-wheeler where it'll always be dry out of the mud and elements ready to go if you ever get stranded

The 10/22 Takedown is way easier to use than Shawn makes it look. Also it's a backpack gun unlike the standard 10/22. They are still super reliable and super lightweight. He may make fun of the gun, but ultimately its a great gun just like the non takedown version.

The 10/22 was my first rifle, and a hoot to shoot with a low budget. I do remember spending lots of money afterword (ignorance) and tricking it out with a bull barrel, custom stock, etc., though it still chambered rim-fire 22LR. But nothing better for plinking or a first gun. Hey, I'm not clear on the one other Ruger gun. Does it fold? Cheers, keep rockin it in Alaska!! Stay left of bang, gents.

I keep a 50 round box of 22lr and extra mag in compartment and leave a loaded magazine in rifle at all time. I also have a sling that has a pouch on it and I can put 100 more rounds. Under the bottom of stock compartment I keep a mini bic lighter and a bore snake. That takedown backpacker is the best for survival. The Chiappa Little Badger is Also great for survival single brake open folds in half weighs 2.9 pounds and has a 2.5 pound single action trigger. You can slap on a small scope red dot with quick detach mounts and have your back up sights available if needed in seconds. But I still would prefer the 10/22 takedown backpacker if I could only have one.

The biggest benefit I see with the takedown over the standard is you are more likely to have it with you for a survival situation. If I'm going on a backpacking trip through a mountain range, I'm more likely to take the gun I can break down and stow. If I need it, I'm going to be putting it together and leaving it that way. Would like to see a flueted barrel on one like the PC Carbine. Shave as much weight off as possible. Less weight on the gun=more ammo I can carry.

Surprisingly weak presentation for two extremely skilled operators. The Ruger breakdown being case in point. Because it breaks down so small it's easy to pack in a grab bag and stash under a truck seat. Once your out in the wilds there is nothing to prevent you from carrying it assembled and ready to harvest, just like your trusty woodstock rifle. I'd want that with a suppressor so if I am in an E&E situation I might have the opportunity to harvest without giving up too much position info. And I'd pack one mag slot with a fire starter, mirror, etc. But I did enjoy your opening humor, too bad you weren't able to harvest the jackalope.

My first was an almost identical 10-22, it went all the way to a springy trigger thing, folding synthetic stock, mall ninja special and now it is back to the wood-stocked, -9 with the original see-through mounts. So small is the world. Stay frosty, but out in two Rivers that is not hard!

I think it’s hard to beat a lever action carbine. Old school you had the same caliper for your pistol as you did your rifle. Light to pack, and simple, When ever I hear trouble out on the farm that’s what I grab is the old Henry. Try one out.
