Fun fact, Ride of the Valkyries (yes, from Star Wars) also comes from Wagners opera!

If you think about it, from a practical standpoint, it would be very difficult to fight battles while wearing horned helmets. I definitely wasn't very practical. Thanks for broadcasting this information. I always tried to tell my history students about this, but the "myth" persisted. Sigh!
@TheQueerVikingBro2 ай бұрын
Exactly! It would make no sense! Although... when you look at all those weird later medieval helmets... practicality does not always seem to be the top priority 🤣

Hello, fellow viking age enthusiast here! A good and informational video on the topic of historical thinking and how we in our modern times perceive and use history in our everyday lives - with whatever misconceptions there are that have tagged along. Can't help but to notice the inscription in Elder Futhark on your back wall. I'm not well versed in the few stones we do have containing Elder Futhark - is the inscription from a stone or is it a modern recreation?
@TheQueerVikingBro2 ай бұрын
@@SkyripperThaBird hi! It’s a modern reinterpretation! It’s based on names of the god Odin found in multiple sources, especially in Eddaic poetry! I have a video about the runes on my channel, because people keep asking about them :)

Nice facts! I wonder if the highly heavy female singer comes from there too... 🤔 Good luck with the monetization thing. It's a long way, but be patient; you can. 👍

i dont think they used leather caps either.
@TheQueerVikingBro2 ай бұрын
@@MrSpaceMees Don’t take my word for it, it’s just what archaeologists generally believe. But it’s just a guess, since very specific circumstances are needed for leather to stay perserved!

But there are some finds of Viking Age headwear, some of which has a leather component

Glad you mentioned horned helmets in Scandinavia before and after the Viking age We actually don't have many helmets from the Viking age, glad you brought that up and also the horned appearance of the Spear Dancer There is a reconstruction of the Osberg tapestry you should have a look at Its funny that you call yourself a "Queer Viking" yet yer stuck on Horned helmets I think horned helmets would be more period than pro-nouns No I mean fer real, Vikings didn't have pro-nouns We didn't start using them until middle English, everyone was "Hit" Have you done any videos adressing your Handle? Im sure you mention Odin's practice of Seiðr, and bring up what a huge stigma being considered "Ergi" carried wth it
@TheQueerVikingBro2 ай бұрын
@@ThomasCampbell-d7n yes I have videos on all the topics you mentioned and yes I am well aware of the Oseberg tapestry. English did have personal pronouns in the Viking Age actually, the scandinavians left þei/þem/þeirra as an influence:)
@ThomasCampbell-d7nАй бұрын
@TheQueerVikingBro I think they developed as a result of the Viking age Old English and Old Norse were mutually intelligible but the genders were very different, so they would drop gender when speaking to each other, it makes sense to then have gendered pronouns

The origin of the "viking" helmet was an opera? 🤔
@TheQueerVikingBro2 ай бұрын
@@MareaRayneOleander if you put it very simply, yes. But the opera itself was just a part of a nationalist, romanticized look at the Vikings and the Viking Age, which is where a lot of misconceptions in the present still come from!
