My great grandmother emigrated from Norway to the U.S. as a young adult. She ended up on the flat plains of Kansas where she married and raised a family. She would tell my mother and aunt, two Kansas farm girls, all about her childhood in Norway and how she missed the Fjords. Once as a young girl, she rode her horse to bring the cows home from where they were grazing. Fog set in and soon she couldn't see more than a foot or so in front of her. Her horse stopped and no amount of kicking or hitting it with a stick could get it to move. Once the fog lifted a bit, she saw just ahead was a sheer drop off into the water far below. If the horse had taken just one or two more steps they would have both plunged into the Fjord.

The men in my family went overseas during the North Sea oil boom back in those days working on the rigs in the North Sea. My grandfather T.M. Montgomery floated the first American drilling rig from the Gulf of Mexico with his crew across the Atlantic to Norway. I started school in Great Yarmouth England before coming back to the States at age 6. Ive been in the States ever since. My father later worked out of Aberdeen Scotland for years.

@@Survivethejive are your Montgomery male relatives J2 haplogroup as well? From my research the family is pretty split between R1b and J2. Makes one wonder. I don't buy into the Jewish line . The subclades do not support this theory. It's more likey it's an ancient trace population of J2 in Northern Europe or even Roman or Alan as J2 was a small percentage of mostly G2 Alan's that not only settled in Iberia but also Northern Gaul. Obviously Montgomery's intermarried with Norman Scandinavians before interning the British Isles. Anyways I look forward to your next video. I know you must be enjoying your travels!! It's very cute and heartwarming to wstch a family trip like this one (especially for those who never had an intact family growing up, but do not begrudge it to others). I also liked the straightforward explanation of why the one Viking village looked kind of New-Age-y with Odin and a Buddha next to Turkish lamps, a star of David and a pentagram, it doesn't get much more historically 'accurate' than to attest Vikings to have had Jewish or Buddhist faith. The placement of such objects in a temple doesn't make a lot of sense, though I suppose the Scandinavians were far more knowledgable and informed about what was going on beyond their home turf than most people would give them credit for. I have talked to some people from East Asia about the fact that Europeans have long had a limited, but not stagnating, idea of Asia, and why the opposite doesn't seem to be the case; I was labelled "insane" and "mad" for daring to articulate that East Asians seem to kind of... ignorant, that wasn't a pleasant experience to listen to. The term 'yellow peril' coined by German emperor William 2nd maybe doesn't be so far fro the truth.
