I've always heard that this story took place on the set of Out for Justice; however, I just spoke with Steven Lambert and he's convinced it actually took place on Marked for Death. I'll be doing a future video addressing that and also some of the comments this video received, stay tuned!

Gene LeBell didn't work on the movie "Marked for Death". It was "Out for Justice". LeBell had previously worked on Seagal's "Hard to Kill". If it has happened prior to "Out for Justice" LeBell would have never been hired on to work on that movie. LeBell never worked on a Seagal movie after "Out for Justice". I heard the story the same year it happened from a friend who worked on that movie. LeBell choked out Seagal and that was Seagal's fault for acting like Joe Badass and taunting people. John Leguizamo, who worked with Seagal, has confirmed that Seagal acts like Mr. tough guy and had no problem hitting him.

Worked 30 years in the industry... worked on 2-3 of Seagal’s films back in the day (as well as stunts with Lebell), Steven was a nut. Stuntmen I knew had horror stories about him. Everything Lambert is saying seems accurate to me based on what I experienced in my Journey through the business in the mid to late 80’s through the 90’s and 2000’s.

I was suppose to stand in and double him in the 1st “Under Siege” but production went to a non union state back east to shoot and wanted to pay me $60.00 A DAY (non union)!!! So I walked off that. Lots of it is a blur cuz this goes back 30 years ago!!! But he (Steven) tried offering SAG (union cards) to me and other people to get us to do stuff... I already had my guild card, didn’t need it, or him. Interesting times :)

@@benrocky1138 oh I recall 2nd unit work (doubling) in Bahamas? Or maybe another gig? Back then I was working every week (from extra work, to stand in and double gigs to stunt doubling). Worked on hundreds of sets yearly from B movies like David Carradine’s “warlords” to “A” films like Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park”. Seagal was in between all the work. When I would work with Henrie Kenji (stunt legend), he’d give me the scoop on Seagal too. Steven was very well known for hitting the stunt guys but did not want to get hit back!! David Carradine was much like this as well but he was an alcoholic on the sets and knew nothing about the martial arts. He faked it all.

I mean when I told him I “didn’t need a SAG card cuz I already had one”, his reply was (slow and deliberate)... almost condescending.. “oh so you’re content.” I told him “yeah, I was.” He really thought he was all that. I use to watch him walk in my gym on Melrose Ave in Beverly Hills (after “Above The Law” came out) and hit the peck machine. Did one set of several reps and then left the gym. That’s it. that was his chest day. Just an odd ball. Talked to me like he was this Holy’er than thou kind of way etc. Made promises to my friends and never kept them, hurt people, prima donna attitude ughhh .... but remember this was 30 years ago. I was on the set of Marked for Death (Working title was Screw Face) doing camera work as a 1st AC. On the MfD set I did second unit. I know Steve from many shows we worked on together. He was one of the best stunt drivers in the business. Unfortunately second unit, at least my camera, was not there the day all this happened. When we came back Steve explained all of this the exact same way he just did in this video. Steve has no reason to lie or embellish. Sensei LeBell is quite the story teller if you know him. I have worked with him both as a student at LACC and when he was a stunt man on different sets. Gene loves an audience and having been around a long time in the Business he has a lot of stories. RIP Sensei.

I believe him because of a few things he said. We still park the trailers in the same pattern and he said "base camp" which is where we stay on set while "holding" areas are completely different areas mainly for BG, casting directors, etc. Also, the story he told matches what a certain "crewperson" told me on set on a different project I worked on last year. You cant rest a knee on the back of a grown mans neck... and cause suffocation. Try it, and have someone try it on you. I assure you... its not happening. Why? Because the spine (and muscles) prevents that, from the side or rear positions. Similarly... the body isnt going to be pooing itself, simply by Knockout, or Fainting. The only times when you hear about people Pooing themselves.. is if they either had a bad case of diarrhea... or if they were blackout drunk... where their poo was again.. in a diarrhea state, without them consciously able to hold it back. Do you really think anyone would film a movie, while they are in a state where they are about to have diarrhea ?! Would ANY martial artist, ask to do a DEMO, in that state ?! This is basic LOGIC and COMMON SENSE !!! And its why mindless NPC Fanboi's like yourself... swallow such easily Debunked BS like this up. This story I’m about to tell is true. This happened in 1994. I was a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. I served with a fellow Marine last named Marcheso who was heavy into the striking martial arts. I think he had earned his black belt in one of the Karate styles/disciplines. Now this was during the time when Steven Segal was at his prime! I thought back then that Segal was the bomb as far as martial arts goes. Well anyway, Marcheso told me, and I don’t remember the context, he was present at some martial arts demonstration. This must have been this “set” that is being discussed. I don’t remember why Marcheso was there, but as he was a martial arts black belt and follower of the martial arts, he was present and watching Steven Segal demonstrate certain techniques. What he told me is that he saw an “old man” choke Segal and put him to sleep! I told him “bullshit”! I did not believe it. I couldn’t believe that an “old man” could do that to Segal. Judo and BJJ were not popular back then. It was the striking arts and Segals very unique Aikido style from ABOVE THE LAW that was popular back then. Van Damme was also the bomb, but Segal was in his prime. I never believed Marcheso! I thought he had made it up, but it was such a unique story. I never knew until just a few years ago that this “old man” was none other than the great Gene Labelle!! Marcheso was telling the truth!! This story came up again many many years later. The internet finally brought this story to light. But when Marcheso told me this story back in 1994, there was no way to verify anything. All these years later, now this all comes out! Amazing!

Ganging up on Seagal has become a bit of a pastime for people. Some of it he definitely brought on himself IMO because of his attitude toward people and the number of BS stories he's told such as the story of sparring with Bruce Lee. Lee died in 1973 and Seagal did NOT know Bruce Lee. That said, when is enough enough? I don't even like the guy all that much chiefly because of a lot of those silly BS stories But when people talk as though Seagal is some sort of punk I think that's way over the top. I think he likely was a skilled martial artist when he was still heavy at it years ago. I'd say he still knows what he's doing but he's older and not in shape for any actual fighting.

That happened to me years ago while training, but he managed to put his arm at my chest, and get both of my legs so I corkscrewed, and fell with my arm slamming into my ribs. I was hurt for days after that. Either way it sucks for Seagal, but he well deserved it for pulling a chickenshit cheap shot like that. Even Joe Rogan told the story of Gene saying Gene told him, that was pretty easy. If anyone made it blow up without trying Joe is top of the list following the fighters that like to tell the story.

That was fantastic mate. Your face as your listening to Lambert is a picture. He's clearly telling it as it was, which is refreshing to hear, I was on the edge of my seat. That book of his looks like it could do some damage, in more ways that one 🤣 can't wait for the rest of the interview. Very nice job👍

Being familiar with both Judo and Aikido, based on the narration, what happened fits the usual Ukemi interaction. Of course before a choke hold gets tighter you have to react. Lebell’s reaction was expected as a Judoka, he reacted to the “energy” given by Seagal. And Seagal having been given a Judo throw or Sangkyo, did the expected Aikido fall usually done in a an Ukemi. That’s why Seagal signaled to the bodyguards that “don’t intefere”.

it's a game of telephone... Once someone starts spreading a story, everyone who tells it tells their interpretation of it and sometimes people like to use that opportunity to spin it how they wish it happened and sometimes it's unintentional. Either way, it's too bad ego has to get involved with otherwise friendly situations. It's over, nobody died, the story should die.
