In this video, which was part of a Live video I did with Kenpo Grandmaster Chuck Sullivan, we discuss the Bruce Lee speed test at the 1967 Long Beach Internationals. Chuck was a witness to Bruce Lee and Vic Moore; however, his story differs from Grandmaster Victor Moore's. I ended up calling Vic Moore while live with Chuck Sullivan in an attempt to get to the bottom of things once and for all.

I'm back here again to comment on this after having done so 9 months ago after recently finding out that a close friend of mine's uncle was at the '67 Long Beach International's tournament and who stated categorically that Vic Moore DID NOT do any of the things he claimed that he did during the demonstration with Bruce. He was there and did not see this take place at all with what Moore is now saying or has said happened.

@@brin57 The actual footage shows both men are right about Part 1: Bruce throwing two punches at Vic, and Vic said those were about two feet away. Slow down the speed to 1/4 and you see he's right. The film has vertical lines in it that magically appear as a rectangular box around Vic, and Bruce's punches never come close to penetrating them. So they qualify as feints. Part 2: As to the second part, the long film original shows that Chuck correctly remembered that there was no inclusion of Lee defending Moore's strikes in round 2 demo. The film shows Moore bowed with Lee and jogged offstage to the left. There's no doubt about it. Nor has there ever been a story go round or on television or karate mags of the era discussing the day Bruce Lee got showed up and booed. Maybe Mr. Moore was upset he didn't get a movie part. Only he can say. Maybe he just remembered it wrong, as in ego defense mechanism. Maybe it was all the years people thought wrongly that Lee really got the best of him in that demo.

Vic Moore does not like losing, he got into a big fight with Joe Lewis, they were throwing chairs at each other, and he eventually lost to Lewis I believe more than once, we have footage of Moore vs Lewis on youtube, and Moore is completely outclassed. Vic is full of himself. I also saw an interview, were he told a fairytail why he is faster than Bruce... he said "because as a kid i always looked to other kids in the schoolbus, where they look, and which move came after their look... thats why i as adult i am faster than Bruce" ... Sorry, but no. Yes, as a Hollywood-movie like "Karate Kid" its a cool story, to build up bow to the "talent of a kid, who becomes Karate-Champion" ... but i am sure, thats not how talent in reality works. Vic also told in the same interview, that Bruce Lee in the end of the demonstration said "you are the fastest american i ever met" (that shows, how much he wants the appreciation of a big name .... which before he trashtalked). That contradiction just doesnt make sense. I also can sense by his laughing at the demonstration of Bruce (at the footage) that he had a lot of disrespect towards Bruce even at that point. There was no reason, to appreciate Bruce. So he had a strong motive to make things up about Bruce, i would say. And the hurted and inflated ego explains the rest.

I believe Vic could not handle that Bruce was way faster than he could imagine and to protect his own "Vic's" status as a great martial artist to make that fake story and he would stick to it because he can claim that there is lost footage because there was not so many cameras after all at that time to say otherwise. I'm sure Dan Inosanto was there. I already know what he will say. He has said more than once that no-one could touch Bruce. The Parker family probably has all the footage of that tournament. I think it was the footage of the '64 Longbeach Internationals that Parker showed to Blake Edwards that got Bruce the Kato Gig on Green Hornet, so Parker filmed the tournament each year. btw, Ed Parker was not such a huge Bruce Lee fan that he would have with-held any film footage if it existed. I asked him what he thought of Bruce Lee after a Seminar he was giving at Mark Miller's Kenpo studio in Parma Heights back in the '80's and his response was "He was fast and talented but he didn't know much". Of course I think martial arts is more about what you can do than what you know, but I was a 19 year old kid or thereabouts....who was I to debate Ed Parker.

The problem with these kinds of discussions is people feeling overly passionate about a person or subject just get angry and the discussion devolves. I can ask anyone you like. Master Lee was an unparalleled philosopher and teacher, but the fact remains, he has never fought a professional fighter. He did win a boxing championship is high school and even in his own words, Muhammad Ali could beat him. Fighting ganbangers in a street fight takes courage, but as seen on the TV show, Bully Beatdown, they never fare well against a trained fighter. Bruce Lee was labeled 4F and rejected by the U.S. Military on his application. Bruce Lee was extremely nearsighted and wore contact lenses, Bruce had also suffered fainting spells prior to his allergic reaction to the paragesic that ended his life. Bruce Lee also reduced his optimal abilities significantly by have the sweat glands under his arms removed. These are all facts, not opinions. I have no plans on relearning everything I learned and I have no plans on educating you or anyone else. I'm just speaking facts. I'm sorry if you are so offended and angry at what I am saying.

If Vic Moore had his hands down at the start of the attack, why is anyone surprised at the results? assuming those are full videos and not loops. Basically Moore was being mugged.

Memories are not digital recordings; they are fluid and change over time. They are unreliable. Where is the complete film footage?

I find it totally unbelievable that Bruce Lee the competitor and street fighter he was had tears in his eyes. He trained and sparred with the best at that time. Why wouldn’t he train with a guy who supposedly just beat him? Bruce was all about taking from other genres of combat and using them in his own style.

Bruce was an honored martial artist demonstrator at this time . These exhibitions were restricted . What is being alleged seems to not be remembered by others . This odd ,but doesn't demonstrate much to hang a hat on . Besides sparing usually had a lot of restraint in America and rarely involved anything but minimal contact !" This is why karate tournaments were frowned on later on ,and MMA became more popular because of its realism and application to genuine fighting !""

If you're reacting, you're going to lose. Vic was at a disadvantage during that demonstration. But yeah, it definitely looks like Vic turned and walked away.

Although there is no available video proof that Vic Moore beat Bruce in the speed test. I think Vic could nt stand a chance if he really did make an attempt. By his reaction based on the video after Bruce threw the punches one can tell he couldn t block them. The body movement from the reaction said it all.

I have personally talked to Victor Moore on the phone. I was interested in joining his organization as a practitioner. He asked me to send him $40 and he would comply. I sent the $40 to him. In return I received a certificate signed by him in some illegitimate hand writing. I never heard from him again. This incident told me that Victor Moore is not totally honest and legit. So in reference to his claims of beating Bruce Lee I believe it to be questionable to say the least.

11:08 Okay, I've never heard of Vic. My study of martial arts was more in the UFC with only classic martial arts flicks as inspiration. I like to pride myself on being the only one in my family with any formal fighting training. Bruce Lee was the man to me growing up. My dad had a lot of tapes and interviews with Bruce. I watched that stuff a lot because I was infatuated with his legend. Then I started to see the genuine crazy, caring person inside and understand his philosophy. I began meditating because of Bruce of classic samurai films. For Vic to say that stuff is weird and I side with Chuck on this debate. Also, his little quip about "Wait a minute, Bruce, let me show you how it's done," and everything after sounds like a fantasy. Chuck has never struck me as a liar or shit talker. He seems to be a no-nonsense fighter with a lighter side for life. Just from my viewings of the man. So, yeah. I'm with Chuck on that bububu-bullshit.
