As a Karate shotokan instructor and someone who practices multiple fighting systems martial arts in those days were hardcore training. They were able to beat modern MMA fighters. Sadly modern Karate has become a business. That's why people mock at traditional martial arts of today. Black belts are just by name. Great interview. He is a legend Vic Moore.

This is the unfortunate reality of martial arts more broadly. Even the beloved BJJ is starting to have this issue with schools popping up that are sub standard in comparison with the first schools. MMA will go the same way (sort of already has), where everyone will claim something to make a buck.
@jj-wp6wc
@jj-wp6wc Жыл бұрын
No doubt the old school karate were true grit. True toughness. But Modern MMA fighters would smoke these guys from the 60's/early 70's point fighting era. But ..if Jim Kelly or Wallace or vic Moore or Lewis were in their prime today, they'd surely be top tier whether it be MMA or kickboxing. Consider following One Fc, or UFC, and look at how striking and mma has advanced. Plenty of MMA fighters with amazing talent today.
@mikebennett938

@@jj-wp6wc I appreciate your thoughts. I'm not as sold on that concept myself. the term 'mma' is used too much nowadays, every joint out there is selling 'mma' nowadays. It's also not really a fair comparison. Modern sports fighters train like Olympians, they live, breath, eat and focus their whole life on winning the next comp. They have comprehensive intelligence on their next opponent with a whole team of experts to exploit the weaknesses and a bunch of time to prepare. If you actually had non sports fighters training in their systems to that level of intensity and preparedness would they really be that different? I'm not so sure. It is also often forgotten that many, if not all the techniques in mma are actually traditional techniques modified to be used in underwear (haha) and meet sport regulation requirements. The biggest thing in my view is that rules change the way we win. Many don't want to admit that but it is just a fact of life. Remember what happened when Connor went up just one weight class? Many people believe that there aren't many rules in mma but i recommend them to go and pickup a rule book and look, they might be surprised. Rules are there to make things as fair as possible and to make the sport as entertaining as possible. Finally there is other little thing called Kudo, where there are the least amount of rules anywhere, and some really big head gear to keep the fighters alive :) I would love to see a ranked mma fighter against a similar but less restricted system and see how they go, then my opinions might change. That said, hats off to anyone in professional sports martial arts who go to work and get punched in the face everyday, they deserve the respect that they earn :)

@J R not if he was taken down, but standing up, he was the original kickboxer. He would have adapted and definitely done well. But there’s been plenty of good world-class, standup fighters that still had to train to defend takedowns.. without doing that it wouldn’t matter how good you were standing up. And there are karate guys today who are very tough.

@@carlobella1850 well, Benny also has a fourth dan in Judo and a third dan in fusen jiu-jitsu. according to documents written in 1993, so I'm assuming he's much higher by now. but at his prime he had some grappling experience. whether or not he would win against a current amateur MMA fighter is not really known but I believe he would have been able to stand a chance in his prime.

Sometimes I wish I had experienced this era of martial arts. I feel like it was just a much better time then than it is today. I feel like martial arts was more respected in the way of becoming a true black belt like you guys talked about here.
@BumsnotDead
@BumsnotDead Жыл бұрын
Definitely, it was a better time. Firstly, there was a great buzz of martial arts. Secondly, there were less schools of martial arts and ideas of Zen and spiritual development was more popular than today. You could establish your school easier and receive good income. The Hollywood didn't use many martial artists for its movies and you had more chanse to become famous and so on so forth..this era was better.

I saw a few videos on him and read a few articles awhile back. Very interesting guy. Obviously he used some over-the-top marketing, but he had legit skills. Martial arts plus an earlier boxing background and even some grappling. He was very well-rounded for someone in the 60s/70s long before the UFC. Also very solidly built. I have no doubt he won almost all of his street fights.

That video loop thats out was heavily altered though plus the strikes where a good 2-3 feet away from him. Vic already debunked that video loop by saying that at that point Bruce was trying to catch him off guard because he had already blocked the previous two punches. He then went on to say that you could even see him laugh and shake hands with Bruce Lee letting him know that he tried to pull a fast one on him towards the end of the loop. He then claims that an extended footage show that he blocked all of Bruce Lee punches while Bruce Lee couldn't block his they then went outside to have a friendly point sparring match.

I was watching grandmaster Vick on an interview he said his favorite movie was entered the dragon but he said Bruce Lee he could meet Bruce Lee in a real fight he said he fought Bruce Lee was just a bunch of bullshit. First off Bruce Lee with smoke his ass. Bruce Lee was a real fighter not that competition bulshit where you got rules and stuff. Yes he might have beat Chuck Norris so he says but Chuck Norris came out is the winner. I didn't hear Chuck Norris say he lost to him he said Chuck Norris came up to him I said you beat me fair and square I want to hear Chuck Norris say that. He said if he had a bet money on Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee he would bet on Chuck Norris Chuck Norris never went there with that either the Bruce Lee Bruce Lee was better conditioned. Add Bruce Lee was a street fighter he taught everybody he taught Mike Stone he taught Joe Louis. He even talk some things to Chuck Norris. Time different other moves Bruce Lee and real fact. Beat Joe Lewis for real . I was watching a little while ago andMike Stone couldn't touch Bruce Lee Bruce Lee was just too fast and this Victor more guy says that Bruce Lee was not that fast he's crazier than hell everyone in the world and their mother said it really was faster the lady one even Chuck Norris that is super fast. Grandmaster more I can't believe he's so big right now. 11 softball Bruce Lee would never let himself go like that. When he says he fought both of them he knows that Chuck Norris would win Bruce Lee if he would have fought this guy Bruce Lee would have smoked him. Bruce Lee you said in an interview that he's not feared no man and fighting with the rules and competition he's not for him. He doesn't have to prove himself to nobody. He also says fight with him. Then you get hurt. I never heard of this guy. Grandmaster more

MMA is the only real deal! Better yet, subtract an M call it "Martial Arts" or just plain fighting. If a grappler takes you down and starts to play Bongo on your head, it doesn't necessarily mean he is mixing a style, it just means he's kicking your ass! Bruce Lee didn't have time to go that path, he died too young. However he exposed those old school Karate guys. Young people would buy his book on JKD and became "unbeatable" sparring technicians, the African American community was devastating at it. Perhaps MJM can beat Bruce Lee in a real fight. But sparring? No way! VIKING SAMURAI, I respectfully suggest interviewing MMA fighters. The highlight? " Only we are qualified to beat a Bruce Lee not guys like MJM."

No, the man wasnt trying to "make you Quit". This is your Colorization of the Events. Its called "Conditioning", and its meant to be painful / extreme. As for calling yourself a Grandmaster... Its shows massive Ego issues. Even actual Grandmasters, rarely ever call themselves such a title. Its typically a title that is given to them by others, in combination of them also having completely mastered the entire Art that they studied.

Were you there!? How can you prove that the man deep down wasn't actually indeed trying to make him quit? It's HIS story based on HIM being there in THAT moment looking into that mans eyes, not YOUR DE-colorization of someone else's direct experience...Such ego issues you have! Did you hear him keep referring to HIMSELF as 'Grandmaster' in the interview? I assume someone is only a Grandmaster if YOU or people YOU fck with refer to them as such? I'll make sure i have some Garlands at the ready to throw at your feet wherever you walk, good sir. Chuck Norris is also referred to as Grandmaster, do you have a problem with that? Are you secretly upset that it's not you? Aww In terms of mastering an entire art? Learning never ends, friend. @@StennMathis Were you there!? How can you prove that the man deep down wasn't actually indeed trying to make him quit? - USE YOUR BRAIN! You NPCs lack any and all common sense. If I dont want to train somebody.. why would I waste my time and efforts to "Punish" them into giving up?! I wont! I will simply say, Im not interested in teaching them.. and do other more pressing things with my life! - In fact, I used to teach Private students. The one thing a teacher desires, is to be able to pass on what they have learned, to the next generation. You want your students.. not only to Match your abilities... but hopefully, to Surpass them. - In my case.. I eventually Stopped teaching.. because the students were not putting in enough efforts. No matter how much I told them that I needed them to Master what they learned in class... OUT OF CLASS... none of them put that level of efforts into it. It wasnt worth the extra side money. I was not really interested in teaching for money, either. Again, I wanted to pass on my knowledge, skillsets, and experience... to others as passionate as myself. - Dont get my wrong... they did put in decent level efforts at class. But not all of the time... and again, nothing beyond that. As a result, they were not advancing. Nor was I going to advance them... when they couldnt do the basic level stuff, without issues. Now, had I pushed these dudes harder, sooner.. Im sure Id have found out that they would have quit fairly quickly... saving me a year of wasted efforts. But at that time, I didnt really understand the differences in people. I always assumed that people would have a similar level of passion and willingness to push as hard as I did. Or that at least.. I could eventually Inspire / bring it out of them. That just wasnt/isnt the case. Some people have that internal Willpower and Passion.. where others are merely in it for the Intellectual, general fitness, and Social aspects, of things. - Really.. ask yourself the Question: Would YOU waste your time teaching someone, if you didnt really want to teach them?! And if you cant even believe yourself... then ask 50 more martial arts teachers the same question. >_< It's HIS story based on HIM being there in THAT moment looking into that mans eyes, not YOUR DE-colorization of someone else's direct experience...Such ego issues you have! - LOL !!! De-Colorization ?! The WOKE NPC SNOWFLAKE, trying to be make EXCUSES, because you cant Deal with ACTUAL REALITY !!! Always playing the Victim card... and the Blame games. Its SPINELESS, PATHETIC, AND WEAK AF !!! Just because you FEEL a certain way... doesnt make it FACTUALLY TRUE !!! - I worked with a black woman, that was upset. She told me that the Indian woman across the hall, never even said Hello to her... and she felt like this Indian woman held something against her. I said... Maybe the woman is having a bad time in her life. Maybe she didnt even hear you. Maybe she broke up with her BF. I said.. there is a million reasons why she might not speak to you. But this black woman, would not accept this. She "FELT" it.. and she was not going to believe anything else... and all without ANY proof. - Not more than a week goes by... and the Indian lady started a conversation with her. She came into the room... all happy, and told me about it. I basically said that I was happy to hear it.. but "I told you so". - So you see.. this kind of ASSUMUPTION about what someone is supposedly Thinking, Feeling..etc.. is NOT fair, nor correct, to do. And sadly, its common for many modern woman, and other SOYFLAKES to do. That is why you Narcissists say "YOUR TRUTH" ,rather than "THE TRUTH". Because again.. you CHOOSE to make blind NEGATIVE assumptions, and label it as Truth... just to maintain your "Oppression-Points". Your "Poor Me!" stories and feelings. Did you hear him keep referring to HIMSELF as 'Grandmaster' in the interview? - Ive heard him call himself that, in other vids. Chuck Norris is also referred to as Grandmaster, do you have a problem with that? Are you secretly upset that it's not you? Aww - Ive never heard anyone call Norris a Grandmaster. I also personally, do not consider Chuck at that level. Ive also never heard Chuck call himself one. That said, he has made some poor remarks about Lee... and trust me, I was just as critical about those remarks, as I am critical about any other artist. In terms of mastering an entire art? Learning never ends, friend. There are adepts of many walks (maybe not so physical),who will readily admit they are still learning - Mastery of an Entire art, is an Achievable thing. There is an actual set amount of material, that is taught in each art. Mastery of other things OUTSIDE of that art, have no bearing on being called a Grandmaster of the Source Art. - For example... I only learned part of the art of Wing Chun. I also cross trained in other arts methods, such as Tai Chi, Muay Thai, TKD, Shaolin Longfist, and many others. I developed my techniques to Masterclass levels... but I could never call myself a Grandmaster, because I never learned a Complete art. - Now... If I learned a complete art.. that still doesnt make me a Master, let alone a Grandmaster. Learning, being good.. and having Full Mastery.. are all very different things. If you have reached full Masterclass levels at everything in your Artform.. then its merely a matter of others giving you such a title. Its not a title that you tend to give yourself. Its also a title that tends to occur when you are a Lineage holder, and have been recognized for several decades of passing on that knowledge to others... by those others. - Adding to this... If I had reached mastery of my entire Artform.. AND I also learned and mastered more arts methods... thats just adding to my depth of skills... and is basically considered an extension, of the base art... that you are teaching. Now... If you learned and fully mastered two or more arts... then someone might proclaim you as Grandmaster in Each individual art... rather than calling you "A Grandmaster". - Of course, the Title really isnt the biggest issue here. The issue, is him getting so butthurt over the Demo with Lee... that he vastly misinterprets, and is wildly offended by. Its very visible Internal Weakness, that Reeks of Insecurity and Narcissism.

I grew up with those hard line type instructors, my Shotokan instructor grew up in the academy in Okinawa and was connected directly to Mr Funakoshi, them Kenpo in a Parker studio and ended up in a Norris studio with the united fighting arts federation (UFAF). It was a fighting school, not just a form and "practice" school. A good friend of mine told me that she finally got her black belt (she and her daughter were taking lessons) and I knew enough about this person and had seen her demonstrate some techniques to know that she was anything but black belt material but, she found one of those "Tāk Mī Dō" (take my dough) studios that gave people belts after spending enough money, whether they earned it or not. It was the 90s/early 2000s and I didn't say anything derogatory because that wasn't my place and she was truly excited but, I felt sorry for her at the same time. She had the confidence she was looking for but I just hoped she never actually had to try and rely upon what she learned to save her or her kid. That probably wouldn't turn out so well.

Vic Moore is truly a legend in the martial arts community. He is very underrated and unknown, unless folks in the martial arts lifestyle get to know his name and his accomplishments. I am no martial artist, but I've heard of him in the past and appreciate his accomplishments because I am a fan of the martial arts lifestyle. Thank you for another great video. I look forward to part 2. FYI, I doubt Michael Jai White believes he could've beaten up Bruce Lee in real life. If anything, he said that to get clout. Take care. Rick

@@xhiaotzu he did say he beat him in an interview, he said he did a rondori sparring with him and beat him. Here's the interview where he said it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/foHNkKSGjtqlmc0, ALso, he never blocked 3 out of 8 punches Bruce threw at him. When you watch the footage, you can clearly see he missed every attempt, even in the old grainy footage he missed. No way you're blocking a non telegraphic strike the way he tried to block it, not happening. You couldn't even block it with a wing chun pak sao and they focus on centerline parries with the way he threw that strike at him. Vic Moore lied about that one and he did so to help sell his brand and piggyback off of Bruce's name since Bruce is a legend. And he fought Joe Lewis, Superfoot, and Chuck Norris in a point fighting match, that's not the same as a fight with no rules, 2 different things. As for him beating Bruce Lee in a karate fight, all depends on the rules. He definitely couldn't beat Bruce in no fight or full contact. He's too slow on his feet, and doesn't have the hand speed to deal with him.

@@kennylopezjeetkunedo5555 yeah at this point he is old and delusional trying to do anything for his legacy. I know for sure he didn’t block and punch of Bruce at the demo and I’m more sure Bruce didn’t spared with him . But we have to stop making Bruce a God he was a Chinese man 5’8 around 140 max . Yes , he was a amazing martial artist train in different martial arts in my opinion after he got beat by Wong Jack and figured out that Wing Chun was useless. He train with Lebell and many other even with Chuck Norris that he said that Bruce was a great Martial Arts but he was a world champion basically saying he would beat him. You really think point fighting is still not fighting? Bruce probably be beat by many people at that time but then again that was not his focus it was making movies. I remember a video of Bob Wall and Joe making fun of Bruce Lee how bad his from is when he kicks and that he has terrible from punching too, we can see this in a Bruce Lee video punching and punching bag it is pretty bad. But you’re a right he is a Legend he had many fights in the streets of Hong Kong and actually was a Boxing Champion again in Hong Kong. I just think we have accept reality and understand that Bruce was not the best fighter and that is this why Quentin made him look so bad in his movie cause it makes sense and bigger and stronger guy that trains a martial Arts would have beat Bruce Lee .

@@xhiaotzu no his focus was to get his martial arts philosophy out through film, that was his focus. Because he wasn't even gonna get into the acting business, he was gonna open a chain of martial arts schools until he was offered a deal. And Gene Lebell wasn't his main instructor in grappling, that's a lie!! He learned from him but Lebell actually learned more from Bruce. Bruce actually was learning judo from Jesse Glovers judo instructor Fred Sato, and he also trained with Wally Jay learning small circle JiuJitSu and Hatward Nikosha who was a gold medalist in Judo and he's also been on the record saying Bruce Lee was very difficult to close in on and was extremely fast!! That's coming from a gold medalist. And Point sparring isn't fighting bru, i've done full contact with different stylist and have used Jeet Kune Do principles and I can see exactly why he was hard to beat because of the Jeet Kune Do principles!! And Wong Jack Man DID NOT defeat Bruce Lee in that fight!! Infact, he said they fought to a 20 min draw which nobody believes that unless you're a damn puppet!! Leo Fong has inside information on that fight in this video exposing the truth of what really happened. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqjHZJVurc5phs0 James Yim Lee passed away, and he was there to also see it and confirms the samething. Wong Jack was also a skilled martial arts practitioner in his own right, but you guys need to stop putting out misinformation and start fact checking!! Everything i'm saying is facts!! Has nothing to do with me liking Bruce Lee. And Quentin Tarantino doesn't make sense about what he said because his story was based on a fabricated story passed down that wasn't true!! The whole size argument is a silly argument because none of that has anything to do with skill!! Only time that factors in more is in combat sports and sanctioned matches because of the rules and limitations, but in the streets, that means nothing!! I've seen a lot of big dudes get destroyed by smaller guys!! And i've also sparred with guys bigger and stronger than me and beat them. Infat, I had an easier time with bigger men, than guys my size because of speed!!

@@ropongi1008 The fact is, Lees demo was just a Demo. It wasnt meant to show whom is faster. Its designed to show three main things: 1) That the eyes are not good at tracking something coming straight at you (depth). 2) That the hands can easily move faster than the eyes-to-brain processing can Process (which is why Magicians still have Jobs). 3) That if you try to use Fully committed horizontal "Blocking".. that you can easily be "Feinted", and then Hit. You can see that as Lee steps in, and starts to punch... Vic goes to block. But as Vic goes to block.. Lee pulls back his arm, and Vics arm passes the centerline. After that... Lee has then fully finished his step, at Nose to Nose distance.. and his fist is placed in front of Vic, to show that he would have been able to strike him... since Vic missed/over-shot the block... and was wide-open. I do a similar demo, to show why Chinese arts Use an extended lead guard arm... I tell the person to stand still, and see if they can detect my arm moving. I then stand an arms distance away, and quickly throw a finger strike towards their eyes. I stop about a CM before the eye, and quickly retract. The motion is so fast, that the OP doesnt detect things.. until the arm is partially retracting. By extending one arm away from the body... it forces the OP to stay further away from you... giving you distance, which is translated to More TIME to react.. and in much more detectable Motions. The arm also splits the attack into quadrants. The Op can no longer attack down the centerline.. to effect your core + center of gravity. They have to attack left or right of your arm. You also have your arms in a vertical height, between the upper and lower gates... so it makes it easy to defend either upper or lower attacks, with equal distance / time... Furthermore... as the OP steps / strikes... you only have to wave your arm through the correct quadrants space. It doesnt have to be 100% accurate... as eventually your arm will meet their arm. Once contact has been made... you then can FEEL what the OPs limb is trying to do. You can feel its power levels, and its vector. .. and TOUCH / FEEL... is 1 Billion times faster, and more accurate, than Visual based Data. Once you have that touch data.. you can apply the correct technique. The difference in this Chinese method.. is that you do not fully Commit with muscle and mass. You meet the OPs limbs with speed.. but without strength/mass. You also never pass your own centerline... so as to prevent over-shooting issues... and thus, prevent feints from ruining you. Now.. as far as raw speed / acceleration goes... very few artists could match Lee. There is a stepping sidekick Lee does, to break some boards... and to date, Ive only ever seen One other artists that was as close to Lees acceleration / top-speed. That said... the difference in single action Arm speeds... is probably going to be a mere fraction of a second difference, between most fighters. Most of combats real speed advantages come from being very efficient.. such as using two arms at the same time (one deflects, while the other strikes), as well as "Combinations" that were trained to their ultimate perfection. Ohh, and the final piece that I forgot to mention, was is taking advantage of the eyes tracking movement limitations. It seems that the eyes are much better at tracking things left to right... rather than vertically. As such... there is a trick that certain artists do: They start their strike from waist level.. and shoot up diagonally towards the OPs head. The OP will almost never see their attack in time, to be able to defend it. Certain Chinese striking methods, also have "Non Telegraphic" methods of delivering their strikes. Meaning... you dont see the shoulders / upper body.. rotate... as its being thrown. The reason why Vic has a problem with Lee's demo... is due to a misunderstanding of what that demo actually Means... AND... because hes an Egomaniac, that cant have his Ego tarnished by someone else. Its the same reason why he feels the NEED to keep calling himself a "GrandMaster".

He has a pretty big story, he even says there is footage that hasn't been released yet. I don't know if he is telling the truth or not, I don't know, but I don't want to argue about this with you , because I don't know, and I don't think you were there either, so I don't think you know any better than I do about what did or didn't happen, and everything you wrote in that 2 page response isn't going to convince me of anything, or change my understanding of what really did or didn't happen. All I would say to you is listen to Vic Mores interview on Whistle Kick Radio, or maybe he will also talk more about this in part 2 of The Viking Samaris interview. Either way, I don't have a dog in this fight, so I don't want to argue the details of what he is claiming with anyone, but I would like to hear more from his interview, at the very least, he is an interesting guy to listen to. Since I don't have a time machine, this is the next best thing.
