Sometime, in the 1980s, a friend and I rushed to attend a Milwaukee Symphony concert on a Sunday afternoon because a young woman was going to play Pagainini's Violin Concerto No. 1, one of my all time favorites. We didn't know anything about the violinist. We got there, managing to get a seat in the clouds. We were both stunned. I was a 'cellist and had heard many wonderful concerts. This piece was amazing and I won't say played to perfection. There is no such thing. But her interpretation was so fantastic. I was never so moved before or since by a musical performance. I lost track of her over the years. Then, one day, many years later, I contacted the Milwaukee Symphony to find out who she was. The person I talked to checked with others in the office. Noone knew anything about that performance. They didn't have records going back that far;-). I told them about what I knew of her story and that did get her name. Thank you for honoring her with this recording. Oh, and the story published for that performance mentioned her escaping Russia after swimming across a river and only getting her bow out with her and her boyfriend. That was obviously wrong or Wikipedia is wrong.

"she studied with Leonid Kogan" ... aha, that explains why she plays like Kogan. The Cadenza is phenomenal, very similar to Kogan's performance. It sounds just as good as Kogan, which we can't say about many if any other violinists. Wow!

That was one of the first two CD's I bought. The other was Leonard Cohen's I am your man. No matter how many versions I listen of that concert, I keep getting back to this one. ❤️

My father bought me this CD from Harmony House Classical in the 90s because I was so excited about this concerto when I heard it on the radio. Honestly the finest recording I've ever heard, executed with authority, panache and an apex of technical skill. THANK YOU FOR THE UPLOAD!!!!

Reminds me of Kogan. She doesn't spill out the soup, let the music speak for itself.
