I wish we could explain a few things that always seem to puzzle them. For instance, the pancakes are made with a batter (similar to cake batter) - not from a dough (as bread or roti is). You take this thin ‘cake batter’ and fry it in a pan so you have “Pancakes”. Another thing that they seem to wonder about are the strange (or long) names give to a recipe. In America, many times a recipe’s name tells you what to expect. Rather than giving a certain dish some 1-word coined name, we tell you what it’s made of. Example - Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato Sandwich. By it’s name we understand that it contains bacon, lettuce, tomato and putting those between 2 slices of bread makes it a sandwich, so that’s it’s name.

@2:20 I agree with her. I tear and dip my pancake into syrup. Or I make smaller circles. The pancakes are served with a scoop of butter on top, which adds to the enjoyment. The reason it's called a pan cake is because it's a batter similar to that of a cake but cooked in a pan. A very similar batter is used in a waffle iron and are therefore called waffles. A similar thinner batter is used to make french crepes. The batter is poured into a pan and swirled around.

I really love watching people learn who wouldn't typically be presented with said opportunity, but I can't count how many times I've commented something like what you just said by now, and I'm tired of watching them wonder pointlessly because they never get proper explanations. It's fun for the start of the video, but it really sucks when they come away from it with questions, or worse, some straight nonsense based on Sir not presenting the topic properly or explaining it after they ask questions.

Tribal People Try is similar to this channel in that there are a lot of food reactions, but they do more explaining and discussion of the food's origin; they also will try out new products or gifts sent to them by viewers in other parts of the world. Reactistan also focuses on food, but they're raising money to start a school for girls. One thing I like about Reactistan is that they also have a vlog channel where you can see the behind-the-scenes stuff, and they do things like take us along to visit the villagers in their home. Recently, they helped an older participant on the channel get to Saudi Arabia to participate in Hajj, which he wouldn't have been able to do without the support from the channel.

No. It's not sugar syrup or honey from bees. Maple trees are tapped to gather the tree's sap & then boiled down to make it thicker and concentrate the tiny bit of sweetness in the tree's sap. Sap from maple trees has a very special flavor different from other trees sap. Very very few **kinds** of trees have a sap that can be food.

I agree it is very LIKE a roti, but doesn't have the crispy/chewy factor, they are so fluffy, like the inside of white western bread. Maple syrup is quite good, but it is simply a sugar syrup made from maple sap instead of sugar cane sap. It has more flavors in it than sugar syrup, and a very pleasant scent. I'm so happy to see you try it, and put your own spin on it. I'd like to see how the people on the panel went home and introduced it in their own way. We also use fruit, jam, etc.

Canadians, especially those in Quebec use maple sugar in many recipes, and also have Maple festivals. Nobody mentioned tasting it, but I was really hoping that the cook had slathered some fresh creamery butter on each one of those pancakes before serving them. lol The butter melts on the hot pancake and blends in with the pure maple syrup, to create a little taste of Heaven! I do also hope that the producer explains why they're called "pancakes". They're fluffy little "cakes" that are cooked in a flat bottomed "pan". This is an explanation of how we make them in our home: 1) you make a slightly thick, but pourable batter with 2 Cups AP flour, 2 Lg eggs, 1&1/2 teaspoons EACH of baking powder and baking soda, 2&1/2 Cups buttermilk, 3 to 4 tablespoons of sugar, 3 tablespoons melted butter (not ghee) and a tiny pinch of salt. Some recipes call for a bit of vanilla but we don't use it. 2) mix the "dry" ingredients together well in a large bowl, hopefully one with a "pouring lip" on the side or even easier, an extra large glass measuring cup. Add the "wet" ingredients and mix everything well. It's OK if there are a couple of small lumps in the batter. 3) pour small circles of the batter into a flat-bottomed "pan" with a couple of pats of butter brushed on the bottom until melted. The batter should be thick enough not to spread out more than 4-5 inches across. 4) finally, cook the pancakes on a medium flame on one side, until you see several small bubbles form on the top of each pancake. Then... 5) flip them over with a spatula and cook them on the other side, for just a few minutes more, until they're puffed up slightly and are golden in color. I'm sure the pancakes they had today were very tasty, but they were a bit too thin for my tastes. It's possible that the recipe the cook found might have been meant for crepes, which are meant to be very light and thin. I'm sure that these good folks could watch a video tutorial on how to make the perfect pancake and then make them at home with basic ingredients that they probably have in every home. The only difficult part would be to get the pure maple syrup to pour over the finished pancakes. In a pinch, any sweet, simple syrup could be used or you could also pour a thin compote of fresh berries or sliced bananas that have been cooked for a little while in butter and brown sugar! Great video! 💛🕊🙏🏻

It's so nice how they enjoyed the pancakes. I'm sure they can make them at home, they just have to mix milk, eggs and flour and, if they like, a bit of sugar. Some people use a little baking soda too, to make them even more fluffy. :) Pancakes are also delicious with apple sauce, fruit compott or jam like strawberry jam. You can actually make non-sweet ones as well, e.g. mix cooked peas and carrots pieces or corn in the batter and add a bit of salt, then bake them with oil in the pan as normal pancakes. (But I might be the only one who likes them like that. lol.)

How come you use the brand name for the syrup but not for the pancakes?
