I say this because there are an excessive number of examples of very bad adaptations in the dubbing and that happens even today, not to mention that in the English dubbing in many anime many dialogues were censored and changed for being "not morally acceptable" not to mention that in almost all dubbings in English there are many bad translations 😒 if they start watching they would be scared to see the large number of animes that are like this, it's not for nothing that people all over the world prefer to watch animes with their original audios

Yeah I randomly found them looking for a good reaction channel to demon slayer with dub. I couldn’t find anyone I was interested in. Most just felt like they were just watching to watch or for the views it’ll get their channel. But then I found this couple and every reaction to every episode felt so genuine and honest. Well, Ida starts off as the typical Class Rep archetype trope overused in anime, however, they dedicated a character development for him to show him that he is more than just that trope and why the other characters would then vote for him, which I really appreciate.

Not sure how this reflects on poor behavior for Deku, he recognized someone as a more competent leader and stepped down for them. Momo had all the same opportunities as Iida, but he was the one to step up and act in a crisis. He really earned the position, and that's why the ENTIRE CLASS agreed he should be the leader, not just Deku.

There's also the fact that Aizawa Doesn't Know that Izuku just got his quirk. From what he can see, Izuku has just never practiced with it or something similar. They didnt even tell him Izuku is a 'late bloomer' or something. For someone like Aizawa to see a kid with a such a self-destructive quirk, who has had years to try to figure out a way to stop said quirk from hurting him, it's super concerning.

Tsu noticing Midoriya’s power is similar to All-Might’s is no big deal. There are billions of people on the planet and 80% have quirks, so there’s going to be many similar quirks. Everyone knows quirks are inherited genetically. There is no such thing as transferring a quirk. So, at best, Midoriya happens to have a similar quirk to All-Might. At worst, Midoriya is related to All-Might. :)

We are stepping into the one major arc of the season. We’ve safely introduced 4 of the 5 main characters, we’ve established a BIT of the hero occupation, but now it’s time to get hit by the stark reality. Heroes aren’t just celebrity actors. They don’t spend 6 months doing target practice and slap a badge on them and hope for the best. You are building to being an Olympic athlete supergenius to be fighting not for a show, but ACTUAL villains and natural disaster relief by helping every kind of law enforcement, medic/1st responder, and sometimes even military factions. And today we gotta show why that’s necessary. But before we get there, we have the rest of the episode. Members of the public inside this show are often weird. Press, civilians, you name it. I mean the fact that these news pundits feel entitled to interview everyone at the school is already kinda weird. What were they expecting? All-Might is there so it’s guaranteed safe and I can waltz right in to talk to him? And it does crack me up that Present Mic and Aizawa are BOTH contemplating if the press qualifies as villains in this situation. Then we have the class rep vote. What’s normally typical is giving the main character and rival every privilege and responsibility, but this show actually gives reason why or why not that should even happen. No one really knows each other yet so most of them just vote for themselves, but Deku already has two major supporters. One for the correct reasons and other not so much. Uraraka obviously just liked working with him on the team against Bakugo and he took the lead throughout all of it and is even why they won because of his plans. And she just thinks he’s a good thinker and is already invested in his circumstances for saving her AND the proper concern for Bakugo bullying the poor guy. Iida is still stuck on his “insight” to try something else in the entrance exam. He STILL hasn’t recognized that Deku just wants to help people on the purest sense. Deku doesn’t see himself as qualified for speaking for the whole class. His kind of communication works REALLY well for some, but not everyone. And it’s nice to see the main character give up his class power. At the end of the day the class doesn’t see him as the most important in the class. Only we do. Nice touch of realism. Iida being in the Ingenium family isn’t as special as it seems since you can imagine a number of these kids come from affluent families in this school. And it’s not like he’s defined by his family. But he himself defines himself by his family name. Which is also EXACTLY why he’s such a next level stick in the mud. Perfectly understandable. That kind of definition means he doesn’t want to make himself different from his family and is trying hard to follow in their footsteps. A bit of a problematic admiration but it’s still an awesome one. (Not that it’s not fair, I’m pretty sure Ingenium is a top 10 hero. It’s never outright confirmed but it really fits considering it’s pretty hard to get THAT many sidekicks. And I think Ingenium has the most of any pro at 65.) Emergency Exit Iida is such an amazing nickname too. (It doesn’t FULLY stick but I wish it did) There’s few images that are as amusing as a man fully plastered against the wall screaming EVERYTHING IS FINE. Kinda like Spider-Man from Spiderverse. You either know the scene I’m referring to or you don’t. That scene might have taken inspiration from here. But throughout Iida does show he can be class rep because he’s also pretty shameless in his rule following. And it gives focus to a character that deserves it because of their traits not because they are main character. Someone broke the UA barrier which is pretty alarming. And even to this day we still don’t know why or what they truly accomplished. So don’t let it completely leave your mind. And we got our first truly major rescue hero! 13 is named after Apollo 13 needless to say. Just to remind what they are the 4 classes are combat, detectives, containment, and rescue. Most pro heroes are a combination of 2. The REALLY good ones are 3. All-Might is obviously all 4. Each kid has their own approach as well that kinda tells you what kind of hero they want to be. And some kids even have 2 traits already since a good number of them are already pretty well trained. I think between Eraser and 13 all the bases are covered. Not much to cover about 13 for now. But we will get there. The villains have arrived! As many minions are walking in, it’s pretty obvious who needs attention. Purple smoke, hand guy, and the literal bird brain. No more training, we got crisis to get to! Everyone else as crazy as their designs are, when there’s so many, you can’t really have a distinct personality for each. They’re just followers. But that also means we get to see the teachers in action and how they built themselves to be the level they are and what the kids can be with so much fodder. I’d say this is finally starting to reach the part of the show where they kick things up a notch despite so many lacking distinguishing traits among the characters. Which is thankfully constrained to this singular season. The difference is VAST in what follows.

I also HATE the general public in this show, not just because they're entitled but because that's exactly how lots of people are in the real world. In a lot of their minds the heroes exist for their convenience: "save us when we're in trouble", "make us feel better when we're worried", "talk to us when we want you to". Heroes are basically celebrities, and "obviously" celebrities need to be available to the press to talk about every part of their lives. "How dare this school try to lock us out, don't they know we have jobs to do?" is the only thing on their minds right now, even though it would be an immense safety risk for the school to just let random people walk in all the time, especially in a world of villains and quirks. But no, they should let us in because we say so! It's so annoying and yet so real, which just makes the annoyance even worse in my opinion. PS: I read your whole comment and I thought it was really interesting and insightful, I just didn't really feel the need to address/add anything else

I think some people could also stand to rewatch earlier parts of the series just to correct their memories and assumptions sometimes. I've seen some try to argue that none of the class should have liked Bakugo because of his bad attitude and constant threats but if you actually pay attention to what happens it's pretty clear that they don't take him seriously when he's saying stuff like that and even find it kind of funny, especially since he's never actually acted on it against any of them. He's just another of the class's many weirdos. His gimmick just makes him louder than the others.

Quirks could be anything.. they could be deadly without thought.. to anyone.. you could have the Quirk to turn into a sort of solid fog/mist, but the first time you activate it by accident outside the wind blows and pooof.. dead. or imagine a young bullied kid like Midoriya, who one time snaps and punches and activates his quirk under the adrenaline/stress. punching his bullies head to the other side of the street XD A young Kaminari (Electricity guy) in the pool who can't fully swim yet, almost drowns and zaps everyone in the pool into cardiac arrest by accident.. control over your Quirk is a bit like muscle memory and instinct and seems to respond to extreme emotions. especially being afraid of your own power due to trauma could cause a LOT of damage.. what the show also underestimates and doesn't really touch on is the insane mental fortitude midoriya would need to have to with active purpose and intent willingly brutalize and demolish his limbs like he does.. it just doesn't work that way in reality, your brain does anything to prevent damage to yourself, unless triggered by an extreme flight or fight response. that kind of pain and physical trauma is insane to endure and you'd do anything from it never happening again.

This episode introduces one of the most unique villains in shounen anime. (Spoilers below for those who didn't catch up with the show) At first glance, Shigaraki seems like a huge letdown of a main antagonist. He's weak, whiny, prone to anger and doesn't come across like a real threat. And that's the genius of his character. Just like Deku, he's still a rookie that has much to learn. So both of them are starting their journey on equal ground. Shigaraki has to come across as pathetic, so that his eventual transformation into a true tour de force seems much more cathartic. That's a very nice subversion considering how many already op villains there are in most shows.

i love this arc. it shows the student and villains for what they are and establishes the baseline in such a creative way. some students are good some struggle, and it made it so easy to establish 20 students and give each one a little screen time. MHA does this so well, balancing the main trio with the other students such that no one feels like a big side character. giving each student a chance to shine in their own way

If you're asking "what would it look like if someone couldn't control their power" the answer is simple. Imagine a quirk, the activation of which causes the death of the touched person. How would you train such an ability? It's possible that this isn't even the purpose of this ability and can be limited to, for example, fainting. But you won't know that because you'd have to actively kill to master it. I don't know if you've heard of the Marvel character Black Bolt. His voice can destroy planets. When his power activated, he killed his mother by saying Hello, in the comics. And he killed both his parents in the inhumans series. In both cases it was a complete accident. In his case, the control of his powers is... not talking. At all. He even uses some kind of device that allows him to focus on not making sounds.

Yaoymomo could have voted for herself. Deku also could have voted for himself so that he would not have gotten zero never thinking anyone else would vote for him, of the other 17 Tsu is most likely to have picked someone else since she is responsible for her siblings at home and does not want more responsibility

The wanting to be a leader versus the shying away from it concept has merits but it is not at all so black and white. There are people who want to be in positions of leadership for the sake of helping others as opposed to themselves, and of course, there are those who shun leadership because they refuse to put in the sort of work involved with it. The real tell is seeing how the people who are in positions to lead behave and act. I have had supervisors I respect wholeheartedly, and ones I'd not even give the time of day outside of work. The ones who hold responsibility but don't excuse themselves from also performing the same tasks and duties of their subordinates when the need for it arises are the good leaders you want to get behind, but even that can lead to a bad leader if done poorly. I worked in a garden center, which is chaos in season here because the growing season is so short. I had a supervisor that was not ready for the storm coming his way as a first-year manager for the department. A few weeks into season he picked up the habit of watering plants. Which, was good. Plants always need someone watering, and there are usually not enough hands to do it. But, we found out in truth it was a means for him to hide and escape for a while leaving other things to fall apart. At a certain point, you do have to delegate, and command those you're responsible for. I think ultimately, the BEST way to determine a good leader is with failure. When there is something that goes wrong, will the person in charge take the heat on behalf of those below them, or shuffle the blame onto a scapegoat to save their own hide?

Although I really like spending time with these characters, I appreciate there really isn't much filler, so everything is at an accelerated pace. Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball, and Fairy Tail have a much more leisurely and decompressed pace. But so much happens in these first 13 episodes of MHA, I wonder if the author ever thinks "Damn, I should have stretched my meal ticket out!"

The idea that people who want to be leaders are bad leaders and visa versa is identical to the "rich people bad" or "successful people bad" conspiracy theory mindset. 99% of the time good leaders want to be leaders and many of them became leaders by working towards that goal.
