The obvious choice for an action scene that wasn't "shown" in the books, is the story being told by the old Fremen soldier who is talking with the facedancer along with the music being played, which serves another purpose, in showing how the war changed the Fremen who went out to fight in it, and how the Fremen still don't take responsibility for the jihad and how their people taking power over the imperium changed them as a people, blaming Paul for it, despite doing all that against Paul's will.

The problem with Dune Messiah is if he stays accurate to the book, (spoilers), non Dune fans will hate what they will perceive as Paul’s ultimate fate. They will see it as bleak. If he goes in the opposite direction, book fans will not be happy. So he is going to have to find his own Golden Path if he expects to complete a trilogy successfully and maybe as a whole in the way Peter Jackson got his based on the trilogy collectively, maybe Denis will get an Oscar for Best Picture if he doesn’t wait too long, but finds the way to make a Dune Messiah that will please all. Don’t be surprised if he calls it Dune Part 3.
@Lolatyou33211 күн бұрын
I don't think they should cater to book fans. So few people who will watch it would of read the books. If Paul is lost, they really need to build the new characters, such as leto, in the same time. Since Paul can see the future, it can essentially be able to build up leto while still only really engaging in the current timeline, so the loss of Paul isn't as terrible since there is a new protagonist to root for.

I think Dune Messiah should begin with Alia narrating her own birth and talking about how Paul is off-world with the Fremen warriors fighting against the Great Houses. Jessica is in labor and calls for Chani, who is initially reluctant to attend the birth. While helping the midwife, Chani is given an updated version of the Wives Speech by Jessica, and she is convinced to give Paul a second chance, then is told to go off-world to fight alongside Paul, which she agrees to do with a little prompting from the Voice. Unknowingly, Chani should be pregnant when she arrives to fight and has a miscarriage during one of the battles, bringing Paul and her closer together. That's when the scene from Part 1 should take place and we see Paul and Chani looking down on their cheering troops, from their ship, as they return to Arrakis to begin Paul's rule. That's when the time jump should take place. Also, during one of the battles, it could switch back to Arrakis to see Alia as a baby, who forces herself, through the power of will alone, to have a growth spurt, in which she grows into a six year old.

They could play up the espionage angle. I haven't read the book in almost 2 decades, but if I remember correctly it's [SCROLL DOWN FOR SPOILERS] ... pretty much every important faction trying to assassinate Paul, or coerce him into submission. It's spies tripping over themselves to manipulate the situation to their benefit. Also just the stone burner scene is pretty action packed. That'll look great in a movie trailer. Also he could slip in flashbacks to the actual Jihad. A crazy galactic war spanning a hundred worlds. There's room for epic scenes there for sure. Even if they are quick flashes.

It's possible that we'll get flash forwards instead of flashbacks. I mean they could start Dune 3 with the defeat of the last Noble House. And then show us the chaos that came afterward. Also how the Empire continued through the Guilds because they essentially gave up a direct fight for a more treacherous approach with all the preparations (Ghola/Bijaz/Irulan) needed . Basically the Dune Messiah plot in a second part, peppered at this stage with flashbacks of horror committed on different planets to a lot of people. Especially if it's personalized through PTSD flashbacks & nightmares as well as well as visions from Paul confirming what happened in a very sad and emotional tone.

I'm prepared for Dune part 3 to diverge from the book the most out of the 3 movies, and I can understand the desire to have more flashbacks that insert action scenes which were merely reflected on as past events in Dune Messiah. However, he said in an interview last year that he views the dialogue and conspiracy scenes of Dune Messiah as their own kind of action. He talked about people using words and subtext to battle each other. I'd be excited to see that! Especially as he often had to focus on the more action driven plot scenes in part 1 and 2 just to get through the plot. Maybe adapting a shorter book will mean that he can focus more on those tense verbal battles between people as well.

You wouldn't have to do like montage of different Jihad battles. He could just open with one complete battle sequence on one of the many worlds that have been conquered. And they could reference the rest in passing through the dialogue. Just have it be brutal enough to make it clear to everyone how scary Paul has become. Maybe a mass execution here and a world sterilization there and you've already set the tone regarding who we're dealing with at this point in the story. Then you have the second act be the political intrigue, and the third act be all the action at the end of Dune Messiah with the whole Stoneburner thing.

Messiah isn’t devoid of action, there’s tons of it happening in the background it’s just not a part of what Herbert chose to engage with and instead more has characters sitting in their high towers. You could bring that conflict from the surface forward to the front of the story. Action sequences that are footnotes in the book but could be dialed way up are the rebel fremen tribes who oppose Paul. You could also really lean in to Scytale and give him much more of a menacing presence and add in scenes that show him more as a dangerous assassin type, which the books show through his inner monologues but a movie could show through more action. Could also give Bijaz less of a corny yet sinister jester role and more of a tool for Irulan’s conspiracy and stoking riots in the streets of Arrakeen. Wouldn’t mind seeing Paul do some cutthroat emperor stuff either.

Given that Messiah is less than half the length of Dune, I do think there's room to add extra stuff happening elsewhere in the world. I don't really care for all the action added to Dune (part 2 in particular), but it wasn't bad. I could see scenes with the Jihad being thrown in just for the viewers who want that. I think it would be better for them to spend the time expanding things missing from the Dune movies (Mentats and Navigators in particular), but I'm doubtful that's going to happen.
@jiggymario81617 күн бұрын
The worst mistake Villeneuve could make is not including the guild navigators and ESPECIALLY THE FACE DANCERS. These are two incredibly integral and awesome aspects in Messiah. I hope he does his due diligence because there is so much source material to work with that will combine the best parts of 1 and 2. Part 1 excelled in pacing and tension. Part 2 excelled equally in action scenes and the OVERWHELMING power of Muad’Dib. If he can blend these two, were in for not only the greatest trilogy of all time, but the greatest movie ever made. With all the plotting and power at play, Messiah can make part 1 and 2 boring in comparison. He MUST use his greatest resource which is Chalomet’s gift for awe inducing acting and along with Anya the pair will share all the action scenes (especially with the facedancer assassin Scytale) they will showcase some incredible choreography choices much like Paul vs Jamis, vs Feyd. The age difference with Alia is such a problem with the time jump if Villeneuve wants to really include Anya Taylor Joy as Alia. For starters, she looks older than Paul in the “vision” we see in Dune 2. She looks about 30 years old… there is a 12 year time jump I believe with Messiah, so… how will they handle this? If they want to stick to actual ages then Paul would have to be around 50 years old if you want to stay age consistent. It just makes no sense to me… this idea of choosing Anya Taylor Joy to play a character that should be a child in the next story. So, I just don’t know what he is planning with that or how he expects to execute this.

At the time of the vision she's fetal. My point is this: What does the apparent age of the actress matter if 1) it is a vision; and 2) her character is already a Reverend Mother? The use of ATJ is entirely appropriate. She could be any age she wanted, considering how ancient she is in experience. This item is just a shiny object obscuring a whole list of more egregious faux pas DV is trying to sell us as "oh, this is so much better. This is what FH wanted," or, as we say in the U.S., "here, hold my beer. You're gonna love what I'm gonna do next."

Making it more action packed has me concerned. It's not an action pack book it's more cerebral and about plotting. I know it has to be good for a general viewing audience but

Part 3 is all well and good. Are we ever going to get anything with that 40 or so film hours of cut footage that never made it into part one? There was so much that got glossed over in the first film to even make it into a 3 hour run time.

Denis made a lot (too many IMO) of story changes in Dune 2. Dune Messiah is mostly people talking to each other. He's going to really have to deviate from the book if he's promising more action. You're playing with fire Denis.

Dune Messiah reminds me of Godfather 3 particularly with the wrapping up of the conspiracy . Scifi did that very well.

What if Paul and Chani reunite at Alia's birth? So Messiah isnt that meaty so there's room for it to start at Alia's birth with a lengthy meeting of Paul and Chani to reconcile, then cut to jihad scenes like when a stone burner at the battle of Naraz(?) sets up the later betrayal of one of the Fedaykin, also the battle where a Fremen see an ocean for the first time, and planets being destroyed interspersed with a few scenes of setting up Pauls govt with Stilgar and Korba, maybe quick scenes of the extensive construction at Arakeen, plus some scenes of Paul & Chani's new domestic life there and the begins of the discontent of the returning war veterans & the introduction of the other conspirators, Fremen losing their old ways, Alia's introduction as a teen age religious figure, Chani's battle with infertility and the all that brings us to the opening scenes of the Frank Herbert book scenes like Paul's anonymous walk through the streets and the extensive council meeting. That plus developing the conspirator's characters and motives is a lot of material to cover. This movie could interestingly have a lot more character development than the previous 2 movies had time for and that would be an exciting twist! Who wants 3 war movies when Messiah is really about the fascinating characters that spoil Paul's reign while he's making his decisions about the golden path, his turn to the dark side and allowing his domestic life to linger building to when he ultimately rejects it all! That would certainly bring Chani back with Paul very early rather than the 12 year time skip the book uses which makes for a difficult reunion between Paul & Chani plus Alia is introduced much earlier as a baby.

This makes me a little worried. If he's going to turn Messiah into a war epic, then I think it's going to fail. Which is sad, because Messiah is like the Godfather of the series because it's all about the behind the scenes and plotting. It needs to more more like Part 1 than Part 2.

"Villeneuve Teases Action-Heavy DUNE Messiah" The novel "Dune: Messiah" isn't action heavy, not even close; so, we're going to diverge even more from the novel! What is the damn point of telling us you're making a movie out of a novel if we don't recognize the story from the novel in the end product, the movie? 🤔😖

Frank Herbert had a way of scaling down battles. Combat is more on personal levels . The action is more internal.

Love your channel. I'm afraid Villeneuve has gone too far down the wrong road. When I hear a director from today's Hollywood say it's going to be action-heavy I know it's going to be just another Hollywood movie. He won't be able to recover from the change to Paul and Chani and leaving out Alia from the previous movies will make it too hard to incorporate her into the story now.

He needs to incorporate elements of children of dune. And 4sure Bring Duncan back and give him a bigger role. They can do alot with the that story arc. Although the way him and Chaney ended the last movie it would be kinda hard to introduce thier kids into the story. Although I don't remember messiah being a boring read. So I have hope he can still deliver a great epic dune story without relying on action too much. There needs to be some tho. If anyone hasn't watched the sci-fi presentation of dune and children of dune. U must buy and watch. Low budget and bad effects but the story and actors make it truly a great dune epic. I can't recommend them enough especially if your a true dune fan.

I actually think the sci-fi presentations of dune and dune2/3 are actually better than the modern movies. They're longer, way more detail and characters, the story and pace are simply incredible. The actors are great and they carry the presentation and make it what it is. TRULY GREAT. probably my favorite piece or science fiction on TV or big screen. Ever.

With the changes to part 1 and 2 that were made I must admit I am not optimistic. While I liked the ways 1 and 2 were done the changes left a bittersweet taste with me. I hope I am wrong and part 3 is fantastic.

I don't mean to be a stickler here, but the "atomics" used to defeat the emperor's forces were supposed to be stone burners with essentially no instruction other than to detonate... It's important that people understand the difference because a stone burner is no simple nuclear bomb, It's actually a multi abled nuclear fueled device that can even adjust it's range and do things that are not just simply blowing up or destroying all electronics, buildings, etc. One, it's called a stone burner because they are often used to destroy WHOLE PLANETS! Two, it's a violation of the great convention to use a stone burner as a bomb and outside general open warfare. Perhaps we will find out that the great houses didn't honor Paul's ascendency because he used atomics against the emperor. who knows.

the fights and wars being written in past tense give off a feeling as being set in stone. The whole overarching theme in Dune is determinism. Villeneuve failed to capture this already in the second movie multiple times. Its not like he doesnt have a way to visualise this either even if its difficult. He either didnt think of a way or couldnt be bothered. The battles we saw where partially extremely stupid too. I like Villeneuve and i like a lot of what he made but i am not pretending to see the thing falling apart by seams. I still like part 1 more.

I sort of feel sorry for Villeneuve as he had painted himself into a corner with Dune2. He did not know that there was going to be a Dune3 until near the end of production. If he had known I am sure he would have added a lot of "Intro scenes" to Dune2 to set up the next movie that he didn't know was already approved, it must suck to be a multi millionaire with an unlimited credit card... Poor guy!

Denis said that the next movie will fill in the blanks of what happened during the jihad. So I took that as he will have creative freedom to deliver more action.

Dune part two was not my favourite. It should have been three movies. The way he turned the water of life in a fast deus ex machina is what bothered me most. He basically cut out half of book two from the original novel. Part two was an action movie, and the screen is filled with them. I don’t need to see Dune to see action or even scifi action. Villeneuve has a chance with Dune messiah to return to the fan based movie which Dune 1 surely was. From what i hear, that’s not going to happen, hence i am lowering my expectations again. Epic scifi is cool, but if that is all there is to see on the screen it loses value. Epic for the sake of epic is a mistake.
