A key part of the daemon entering Titus’ mind that I haven’t seen discussed is that he KNEW the daemon was poking around in his head while the other Marines didn’t. Whatever trauma Titus survived in his youth, it unleashed a kind of single-minded conviction and rage that is anathema to the corruption of the warp. Titus doesn’t just hate chaos or has a soul that’s not affected by it, his mind is hard wired to attack it like an immune system responds to a virus. That angry child noticed the daemon in his mind, then Titus responded appropriately.

I think Demons using chaos inside the minds of people is similar to how we perceive evil entering our lives from within. There has to be something there. Otherwise….Demons end up finding UltraMarines like Titus. It entered the squads minds and souls. I don’t think it was a coincidence that it shows us Titus walking away from the demonic presence within. It’s like he really didn’t expect anything to see him as he sees himself. But. It’s a demon. It doesn’t belong there. So Titus fucking killed it.

Leandros is not wrong lol, and that’s Chaplain’s entire duty, of rooting out corruption within the rank of their Chapter, so it would make sense that he would be suspicious of Titus the most. Explain to me, how an Astartes that is not a blank, not a Psyker and has never been one, never showed any sign of being neither, can whistand not just a warp sorcery but an artifact and a power source of a warp sorcery, then came out of it unscathed and untainted, then proceed to do it again the second time. Explain how Titus can do that, without factoring in Psyker and Blank into the equation. How? Other than that he is an agent of Chaos? Which is the simplest and most frequent reason for an Astartes being capable of using and whistanding warp sorcery. He’s not a living saint or an Emperor’s daemon (angel) either because those things are perpetual and they come from the warp itself, he’s just a dude. So how? Exactly? He just lack a fear? So that’s it? That doesnt explain anything. If a literal Primarch can get corrupted, 9 of them in fact, then an Astartes is NOT an exception, in fact, Astartes regularly get tainted and corrupted by Chaos, Azariah Kyras is one example. It don’t take much to corrupt a space marine, Astral Claws were zealously loyal to the Imperium once until they get shat on by the very thing they were protecting, and they get tainted just like that, so it’s not in the realm of impossibility for an Astartes such as Titus to be corrupted too, so the suspicion was justified.

@@Tiku- Finally, a voice of reason. I Think that people hating Leandros don't fully understand what Warp gods and their minions are capable of. They corrupted half of emperor's Primarchs - the pinnacle of gene tech. They continue to corrupt even the most dedicated astartes so of course there must be vigilance to absurd levels. If i remember correctly the corruption of Iax started with just 1 Nurgle fly getting passed quarantine. So yeah, of course Leandros will be a hardass. Better to be vigilant, than to be super dead.

Metaurus fears that ultimately, Titus rage-filled and painful past coupled with his fearlessness might cause him to fall to Chaos. As the demon enters Metaurus' mind, we see Titus transforming from boy to Ultramarine and then we see Chaos finery/livery starting to grow on his armor. It is only when Titus defeats the demon, hauls off Metaurus' wounded body and Titus refuses to yield that their "duty is done" despite the oncoming overwhelming forces with the incoming orbital strike does Metaurus finally realize and see the flip-side of Titus' single-mindedness and dedication - "What could a soul like that be capable of?" in service to the Emperor and the greater Imperium.

⁠Not well versed in the lore, but I do remember when they were sent out, a mission descriptor was “mortality: Absolute” The fact that they dropped orbital bombs on their heads after they find the place seems to confirm that, alongside how the injured marine just seemed to say “job done, time to die” afterwards. Were they supposed to return, I would suspect they would have an extraction ship before the bombs first of all, and I would also assume the injured marine wouldn’t call it quits, because he would still have a job to do if that were the case.

The Daemon utilized the Astartes fears against them. (yes they have fears, just different to ours.) The Space Marine's pupils dilated due to a fear response. Titus had no Fear and no hesitation. The Daemon couldn't enter through the dilated pupil of Titus, so it had to force entry.

Another one of my favorite tropes, or whatever the word is for it, is whenever a psychic is humbled by someone with an iron, absolute will. Reminds me of a story about a character in a D&D game. Long story short, they were a changeling that kept adding layers to their disguise, like a russian nesting doll made out of a medieval James Bond's closet, and when they had their mind read by an Illithid it basically got mentally flashbanged and screamed "WHAT ARE YOU?!?!?!"

Something happened in Titus's childhood that really fucked him up badly. That chainsword he always holds as a boy didn’t initially belong to him. Amd now as a Astartes, he has such an unwavering conviction to fight for the Imperium that no warp daemon or ruinous power can throw him off. That's something that only the Adaptus Custodes can do, and not even half the Primarchs could. Damn, he's basically the 40K version of Goblin Slayer.

It wasn't a chainsword, it's just a Space Marine combat knife. He was so small that a knife is the size of a sword. Also remember, in a setting where Space Marine are generally revered as angels, Titus first reaction on seeing one is to tell one to get out of the way so he can kill more xenos.

The daemons eyes open up loud and suddenly like multiple safe doors bursting open, like the gate to its soul is opening and that its a well guarded thing. But the ultramarines open up quietly and smoothly, like theyre being slithered into while the daemon invades their minds. Except Titus, whose eyes burst open like the daemons do. His soul is just as well guarded as the daemons, possibly even better guarded, but that didn't matter for either one of them. The snake didnt slither or bash its way through, those doors opened willingly, and Titus said it was on SIGHT the moment it got close. I wouldnt even be surprised if it was a trap, since the daemon getting that close is what lead to time being unfroze momentarily while it was shocked in his mind.
