1 of the many problems of having multiple authors and no standardization of how strong a spacemarine is
@MantelarАй бұрын
@@matthewanderson9754 if I could make a single change, I’d make the heretic Astartes fight like the terminators do - aggressive and fast. The game doesn’t do them justice - thousand year old combat veterans, who attacked Terra and lived to tell about it, all with random warp powers.
@puddin6160Ай бұрын
@@justinkemp4019 The issue is not just the inconsistency of the writers. It's also how varied Astartes are in terms of power. Some are so freakishly powerful that they fight Custodes and win. Tyberos, Tu'shan, and Dante absolutely could take Custodians in a one on one, but they're Chapter Masters. They're insanely rare examples, but there ARE a few. These guys can wade through traitor Astartes like a normal Space Marine would mortals. Some are shockingly weak compared to their brothers like the Raven Guard who tend to be weaker and smaller than their brothers in other chapters, but they can compensate with their ambush tactics and stealth. Most are pretty average. The Fists and Ultramarines are smack dab in the middle in terms of strength and speed generally speaking whereas Salamanders and Blood Angels tend to be significantly faster and stronger than Ultras and Fists, though you have absolute freaks of nature in the Ultras like Malum Caedo. There isn't really any established universal standard beyond them being much more powerful than mortals. What you saw was a pretty average display of the average Astartes roughly. But there are some out there who could mop the floor with these guys and some who would get completely stomped in a straight up fight. WH40K isn't just inconsistent due to variable feats by different authors because they're ALL canon in one way or another. There's a story of a traitor marine killing a swordmaster of a loyalist chapter without his armor on with ease...but then he gets cut in half by a Grey Knight Terminator a few pages later. There is NO standardization for the power of Astartes because it varies widely. There is only an average. And you're basically watching it in this video.

I've seen quite a few people talking about how this is the mission that Calgar sent Titus on after the events of Space Marine 2, and being confused as to why he would send one of his strongest lieutenants on a suicide mission. I think people forget that Calgar has known Titus for a very long time, and knows that he has a long and storied history of resisting the effects of chaos. To any other marine, it may have been a suicide mission, but to Titus, this was a relatively normal deployment, and Calgar knows this. Titus has gone toe-to-toe with warbosses, hive tyrants and chaos lords, and has come out on top every time. This was not a suicide mission, it was a true welcoming back into the fold of the Ultramarines, and a means for Titus to prove himself yet again.

So one thing I noticed: With the exception of Titus, the Marines all have Power Melee Weapons. Yet, we do not see any active Power Fields, which are usually visible as far as I know. Which means that, quite simply, the Marines didn't consider the power fields to be necessary. And they aren't. They are carving through pretty much baseline humans with no real armor to speak off, or weird mutants that also do not wear armor. They only need sharp metal, and it is good metal forged into good baseline weapons, handled by their speed, strength and training.

I saw one video complaining that this Secret Level episode didn't show off the Space Marines as methodical and aggressive soldiers like the Astartes fan films were, and that they felt more like they were showing off as if they were some group of Marvel superheroes. But I think that's kind of the point. These are Ultramarines, not Retributors. The Retrobutors made their reputation off of being pragmatic and cold, eschewing anything in combat they would consider a waste of time, hence why they were so rithlessly efficient in their short. The Ultramarines on the other hand are a much more traditional legion, and behave more like knights with a heraldry to show off and superhuman abilities to flex. Against lowly cultists they don't seem to really worry all that much about personal bodily harm, you see that when the Marine Captain has a cultist by his neck in the air and eats a bolt pistol shot to the helmet. He looks at him with a "That's all you get" glance before proceeding to turn his head into a popped jelly donut with the very helmet this guy tried to shoot through. So no, I don't think it's an issue that the Ultramarines are depicted as such showboats, all things considered other Marine Legions would be flexing their skills to an even more extreme degree against enemies as beneath them as this. But it does make me wonder how the Retributors would approach this situation differently. They probably wouldn't even bother with melee, unless they're in an ammo conservation mood, and even then there'd be a lot less flourishing of the axe.

It all is starting to make sense to me now since this directly follows the storylines of the SM1 & SM2 games. Titus has essentially just returned to his Ultramarine Company during the Era Indomnitus and has been cleared of all charges, however, based on Leandros' comments at the end of SM2, Titus still likely holds distrust in the minds of his UM brothers (i e. Mortarion), which is precisely what the deamon-sorcerer used to wound him, portraying that fear & distrust in the form of Titus turning to Chaos. I also feel that this is why Titus is made to lug around the null casket & astropath, to both protect from deamons and the 3 other UMs if Titus really did turn to chaos. This is clearly hinted at, when Titus drops the null casket to rush the Leman Russ Tank and crashes though the vehicle, as the show makes it a point to show Mortarion frantically looking back to see what happened to the null casket. This is also evidenced by the looks he and Titus gave each other when he dropped the chain back into his hand after he disabled the Lemon Russ Tank. The ending shows Mortarion regaining his trust for Titus.

Can someone explain the interaction at 3:12 when he saw titus leave the coffin and then when he handed him the chain back. Is it because he doesn't trust titus or?

Fairly sure you're overthinking it. I assume he was told to handle the psyker during briefing, but here, he dropped the chain because he was momentarily busy with something else.

Titus is known for his fearless nature, which can at times border on recklessness. His main responsibility seems to be protecting the Sarcophagus, but the tank represents the first serious threat-at least relatively speaking. While the other Marines take cover, Titus seizes the initiative and swiftly neutralizes the danger. In doing so, he is forced to leave the Sarcophagus behind-a calculated risk. Metaurus’ glance at the Sarcophagus as Titus sprints off underscores my interpretation. You can almost hear his thoughts: “What the…?!” When Metaurus wordlessly hands the chain back to him, his gaze seems to say, "That was risky." His eyes narrow slightly-a hint of anger, perhaps, or skepticism, as if to ask, "What was that just now?" Titus' expression, as I interpret it, silently seems to reply, "It was necessary." He briefly looks down-perhaps a moment of unease, as he was fully aware of the risk, but maybe also a sense of respect toward Metaurus. Either would explain the brief downward glance; most likely, both together are plausible. (I know that neither can see the other’s face inside their helmets, yet I believe they understand each other without words. The mere act of Metaurus silently returning the chain speaks volumes.) This is, of course, only my interpretation, and I’m sure there are many other interesting perspectives.

It’s Titus’s duty to protect the coffin and its contents, if you watched the whole episode you’d know how important it is later in the episode where they almost die without it, but he basically abandoned his responsibility to do something cool, Metarus doesn’t like that too much

Alternatively, their interaction could maybe be summed up in a single sentence: "The Codex Astartes does not support this action." :D

My boyfriend showed me this episode and it was the dopest shit I've ever seen. He mentioned that the gold circles are 100 years they've been in service. The older man has 4, I wonder how many years of service they lost when those other two died. And all those years of service reduced to almost nothing at the hands of that creature. Incredible.
