Hi Adrian, a great preview, buddy! The question is always what you are going to photograph with f/2.5. If the plan is to have a lot of bokeh around a subject, blurriness in the corners is not the biggest problem for me 🙂 So, it definitely looks after a fantastic lens. This lens seems to be an exceptional value. Sharpness seemed good. Vignetting looked to be pretty low. I really couldn’t see any noticeable color fringing either. Focus speed was so-so but no one is going to be using this focal length for sports or wildlife so it’s really not an issue. Good job Viltrox, again. Thanks for the early review.

Adrian, Excellent Review, thank you. I have the Viltrox 20mm and think it is an excellent lens. To have a small light quality 40mm prime at this price is amazing. Definitely going to consider getting this lens to use with my Z7 for a lightweight travel package.

nice review as always. i was wondering if i could use this with my nikon z30 apsc that is not a full frame camera? if it can be, does it works the same or how different? sorry for this beginner question and thank you in advance🙏🏼

Thank you for watching. It's ok we were all beginners at some stage. The answer is yes you can use this lens on the Z30. However, because the Z30 is an APSC camera, that means you'll get a crop of 1.5 onto full frame lenses. 40mm x 1.5 = 60mm in focal length. The aperture does not change however. Hope this helps.

Super impressed with the lens. The sharpness tests really show great consistency throughout. Video from on the gimbal looks really cinematic. Seems like an all round winner. ⭐️

Viltrox rocks, Adrian! I have the 13mm 1.4 and the 85mm 1.8 and they are both superb lenses. IQ is fantastic even wide open and the build quality is the best in the business IMO. Ok, they cost more than these new (plasticky) lenses but they are well worth it. And they're still cheaper and better built than the Sigmas, Tamrons and even the Nikons. Plus they they are all available on the Z-mount. What's not to like? Cheers mate

I like viltrox a lot and they make great lenses now but I do not understand why they released this on z mount first. It’s a direct competitor with the Nikkor z 40mm f/2. That lens may cost $100 more, but it has 2/3rd more light, is sharp, good micro contrast, and is first party. You can even get it refurbished for $200. On Sony e mount (coming) it makes way more sense because the viltrox competes with a Sony 40mm f/2.5 that is three times the cost.

Yeah I think it's great to see all these Z mount lenses coming out from third party manufacturers. At least people have a choice now, compared to some years back, when there was no third party lenses at all on Z mount. Thanks for watching 🙏
