These look nice! But I pop these out without mangling them all the time using a flathead screwdriver. Doc you are really putting a hurting on those old clips! Lol. Love your content as always. Cheers.

There’s an elusive snap on plier tool supposedly only available through and sold by Honda directly that has a business end JUST like this tool.

First time I ever changed that darn headlight I almost put that Outback up for sale,luckily I have skinny arms. I have done this so many times I can do it just by feel. Good video,thank you.
@lastbesttoolАй бұрын
I know that exact feeling. Especially since I can change bulbs and oil filters in my Taco and 4Runner in seconds because they are right there!
@daveguthrie5229Ай бұрын
Love the channel Doc. As a subaru shop owner the issue with your headlight bulbs is your not using long life bulbs. Subaru has a TSB about it. we only stock long life bulbs at our shop for this exact reason. Also with a lot of those body clips if you pull the center pin out too far it almost re-locks the clip. There's somewhat a sweet spot where the clips will easily come out.

Matco UPR4M is the best clip tool. I try to avoid the trucks but i bought the matco trim tool set and the UPR4M when i started doing body work. I have a bad habit of buying every trim tool i come across. The flat metal ones everyone sells are nice too. I bought one of the snap on ones but ended up having a coworker buy one of the matco i mentioned to trade me. I cant wait to try some vim stuff. Sorry 'bout the adhd rant. Haha

Hey Doc, have you received the new WERA 838 RA-R M ratchet screwdriver already? Absolutely fabulous! Trusted and best retention system in the word (Rapidaptor) that allows for truly one-handed insertion / removal of bits, spinning of fasteners with fingers possible before the ratcheting mechanism can be engaged, and a truly revolutionary and intuitive ratchet switching. You now rotate the ratchet collar in the direction of the fastening, i.e. rotate right for screwing, rotate left for unscrewing. I've been waiting twenty five years for this improvement and it is finally here! I predict all ratchet drivers will adopt this solution in the future, and not too soon it will be. Small form factor, so the WERA 838 RA-R M will fit in many EDC kits. No need to mention the made-in-Czech-Republic quality. Anyway, waiting for your review 😊

Outback owner here, you can get to the headlights by pulling back the wheel well liner and turning the wheel in, you have to reach up with one arm and do it blind but it's way faster. If you have the car coated with an oil based rust protection you will get it all over your arm.

Hey Doc. I had a 2006 Legacy for years. As it may not be the same Model-Series as yours, i reckon i'd share my research with you, as my headlights sometimes didn't even hold up more than 4 weeks. It seems like the Headbulbs do NOT like little Voltage-Spikes. Which means, as you start your car and have the Light-Switch turned on the "Auto" Settings, there could be some extremely short Spikes in the Voltage, which your Headlights absolutely Hate. Try Turning off your Lights before you Start the car. Maybe this helps I found for myself it worked. I know it is kinda dumb to have to adjust the "auto" setting everytime but that was what the research showed, would help some people. Greetins from Augsburg, Germany
@lastbesttoolАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I always turn off the lights with the car, and never use the auto setting. Still like clockwork, I loose a light bulb about every oil change. By the way, I love Augsburg. Beautiful place and calmer than Munich.

Philips Ultinon are great LED bulbs. They don't cost much more than the cheapos on Amazon but my 9003 bulbs have a beam pattern almost identical to the original halogens

Absolutely. I went to the Hofbrauhaus last time I was in Munich. I had good memories from when I was there in the 90s. But it was way too touristy and commercialized. I need another place to look forward too.

@@lastbesttool i dont like these big commercial places either. For food and beer i always got to the little local brewerys and beergardens. I much more like the quiet places!

I used to work at a Honda dealer and I remember using side cutters for the skid plates doing oil changes and one guy had these SKU: HON-07AAC-001A100 he got them from our parts department they were the shit and have handles which allow you to have your hand farther away from the clip and it still grabs well under the head you should check em out!

I just bought the Vessel screwdriver style clip remover on Amazon. Vessel has recently become my go-to brand for anything with a screwdriver handle. The quality of their tools are second to none, very high manufacturing standards in Japan. IMO, VIM has priced themselves way too high for tools that are "middle of the road" quality. However, they do make a few specific use tools that other companies dont.
@scotts4125Ай бұрын
VIM is not middle of the road quality. You may not like their pricing but their tools are very good quality. They do their R&D in the U.S. and take product development seriously.
@chrxx4327Ай бұрын
@@scotts4125 vim is just another middle of the road tool. There are many tool companies reselling made overseas tools that rival vim in quality. Vim's pricing is also too high for most of their stuff. That's why people will only buy their odd buy speciality stuff and you won't see someone with all vim tools.
@scotts4125Ай бұрын
@@chrxx4327 VIM is known for specialty tools. They don't want to compete with what everyone else has. They try to be different. The only thing I know for sure and I am sure there are more as I am not claiming to be an expert is their 1/4" flexhead ratchet. It's the same as the Icon and Facom. I have the Icon set myself. I have a garage full of Snap-On boxes with Mac and Snap-On tools along with VIM,HF,GW so I know about expensive tools.

You aren't buying Silverstars or Nighthawk or whatever headlights, right? You get like 10-20% more brightness out of those things, but then they're rated to last like 300 hours instead of 3000. Awful tradeoff. Always buy the standard bulbs that aren't brighter. If they say "long life" that's good. Should be rated like 3000 hours.
@salvatore6539Ай бұрын
That design just looks way to hard on your fingers. I feel like most clips you would use that for would be full of dirt.
