The lyrics in there music hit me so hard sometimes, I have struggled with these feeling my whole life not knowing how to articulate them. mgla gave a voice and put words to my feelings, the first time I read the lyrics to their music it made me cry and sometimes it still does. I am so thankful this band exists.

With Hearts Toward None VII is a very specific song. The rest of the album is more diversified when it comes to riffs and such, but this one was most likely designed to be trippy with it’s consistent repetition of the main riff. However, this song is actually extremely diversified on the rhythmic field: it’s all about Darkside’s drumming - especially his cymbal work. Listen to it again while focusing on the drums and it will blow your mind. You may also consider checking out the song’s drum cover by Bestia to get an idea of how complex the drums are in it. Generally, it’s one of those songs that grows on you - the more you listen to it, the more depth and details you discover every time. Go through it again 2-3 times and I’m sure you’ll want to pump your initial rating of it higher ;) Also, please consider covering Cradle of Filth - Death Magick for Adepts. It’s another Midian song, I know, but the lyricism on that one is really something else. Thanks and have a good one!
@Ryjuss5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, their main focus are lyrics + riffs and they are missing Darkside drumming. It happened before too. Maybe they should try other great Darkside and M. band Kriegsmaschine... soooo next one should be Kriegsmaschine - Fear and Loathing in Gethsemane?

One of my favorite Mgla songs! Also, "With Hearts Towards None III" is great!
@thenoctus67225 жыл бұрын
When looking through Mgla's lyrics from their debut split all the way to EiF, there's indeed a very long and interesting transition in the themes. First, a very narrative take on satanism, followed by the same kinda take on misanthropy and war. Next, there's a shift towards god's-wrath-is-nigh type stuff and talk about punishing humanity. Then, we're already at the apocalyptic, post-christian/religious themes of WHTN. Finally, there's the nihilistic final realizations of Excercises in Futility. It's really such an impressive flow, with each new step being so fitting, one has to wonder if they were planning all their lyrics in advance before starting out as a band. But tbh, if the philosophical evolution came genuinely over time, that makes EiF even more impressive!

Vin, answering your questions about Poland... We're not bilingual but we simply like to learn foreign languages. Many of us speaks English, German, Russian, Spanish etc... And these big churches are still quite full on Sundays. Majority of Polish people still believes that the Catholic Church is the answer. It is a bit scary and unsettling but it is what it is... I always admire your open mindedness towards genres like Black Metal which is my favorite. Mgła have basically been my repeat band because I feel their lyrics are raw humanity embodied, hearing M barking in existential distress to often very hopeful guitar riffs, really resonates with me, especially in these times, deep and often dark subject matter with a dash of hope. And you’ve helped me to better understand what’s being said and better appreciate my favorite band. :) 🤘🏻

Faging is a song that will resemble folk/black metal the best, I think (Of course, here comes Moonsorrow as well, another great band in the genre which I hope you will listen to). Portal - Glumurphonel (live 2008), not because I think you will like it, but because i want to see the reaction to the band i love. I love the lighting, especially the tinge of red! If you guys choose dark KZbin in settings, it wont brighten up the screen too much to spoil your lighting. You can balance camera brightness with your aperture settings. Also, you guys need a slight overhead spot light, to outline the top of the head/hair, very minor, but its effective. Another cool thing is to place your spot(s) on the floor behind you, about 2 to 3 feet away maybe, you can experiment.. and direct them to the back of your head and shoulders, to give the outline around you. These things just define the shape better and its a cool effect too for the dark background. And if you have some things that give out smoke, like people burn herbs spiritually or whatever, anything harmless, its going to look cool in that light. These things would be perfect if you're doing stoner doom or black metal or anything atmospheric or psychedelic. Another cool idea is to find some lighting thing that animates synced with your sound frequencies, there is one called "Vivi Music LED Controller", but its like $400, but its compact, smaller than a hand. I haven't used it myself, but if it allows you to change lighting colors and themes, i think its cool!

A few notes (some of which other people may already have mentioned): The band draws a lot from ((Orthodox) Catholic) Christian imagery. Exercises in Futility as a whole can be seen as a nod to the book of Ecclesiastes. "Litany of Abandonment (to the Lord/Jesus)" is an actual Christian litany/prayer. This song is number 7 (VII, in roman numerals), a number that has important symbolism in Judaism and subsequently in Christianity. Christ is said to come back down from a cloud (well, he claimed it himself, according to what is written in the New Testament), or a heavenly airplane according to some. Clouds, rains, storms, floods and torrents of emotion are related concepts. One can suppose he would have to go up before he comes down. Dark Night (of the Soul) is a Catholic Christian concept, although this may not be what they are referencing when they say "the darkest night of them all". "Nadir" is the point opposite to the zenith, and "zenith" is the point in the sky right above you (the observer). It is similar to an antipode (the place opposite to the one you're standing on the globe), but on the sky, you could say the nadir is the antipode's zenith. Further Down the Nest and Mdłości are EPs. Mikołaj Żentara is the son of a polish actor. It may be that he learned English as a child particularly well, although many poles (well, most europeans, actually) can speak English. Poland used to be a particularly Catholic country, I don't know how it is like nowadays. EDIT 2: Christ is returning within this decade

An info for you guys: prior to Mgła they had established another band called Kriegsmaschine (it means warmachine) and now they have those 2 bands simultaneously. Until 2010 both were very harsh and sometimes even primitive black metal, after 2012 both bands evolved into more melancholic and atmospheric side. You should definitely check out the last 2 albums by Kriegsmaschine too.
@willclevett75605 жыл бұрын
I think its more complicated than a biblical reference imo, for me always downwards is an implication that the greater our knowledge grows (original sin, promethian fire etc) the faster the human race draws towards is death and lowest point because we get better at killing eachother. The opening of the song I believe is a reference to the political division happening in the world at the moment, which is reminiscent of division prior to the commuist and fascist atrocities which blighted the last century. But the thing that makes this my favourite song, is that they recognise the "agents of change" which have brought us to this level of sophistication, how they came about, and how they will (maybe) spell destruction on everything. (and if they don't we're all doomed anyway ^_^)

Hey Vin@Sori...Just recently subscribed and I wanted to drop a note and tell you why.... I'm incredibly impressed with how open minded you are, how you can appreciate blatantly obvious bands that are truly evil/Satanic/ or just the furthest from the ballpark of Christianity that is possible. I operated two channels here on YT, at one point and I never bothered with channels that promoted any type of organized religion, any type/form....However, even though I lost one of my channels for copyright strikes and I'm no longer to login to my other channel even though I have provided proof time and time again, I had no intention of changing my 'Black metal, fuck everything else' view, for any reason Until I saw one of your reaction videos, I believe it was a CRADLE OF FILTH video...I'm rambling. I've been a Theistic Satanist for nearly ten years, and I've never tried or wanted to see another point of view but I have to say, I very much respect this channel I don't agree with several things you stand for but that certainly doesn't mean I have to hate you. Both very intelligent and knowledgeable and certainly have my respect I look forward to more reaction videos. Thanks Ronové
