When my husband died almost 11 years ago I had this played at his funeral. It is my understanding that this song has replaced Amazing Grace as the number one song played at funerals. It is perhaps not surprising that I get as teary when I hear it today as I did on the day of my husband's funeral. It is a beautiful song and Vince's voice is hauntingly beautiful so how could you not love the song? I heard that Vince was so emotional over this song that he intended to write it for his brother and either sing it or have it sung at his brother's funeral and then never have to perform it again. His record company talked him into recording it which he reluctantly did but he did so believing that because the song was so highly personal to him it just wouldn't appeal to other people and no one else would want to hear it. To his chagrin, not only do average people like me want it played at the funeral of a loved one but when a member of the country music community dies Vince is always asked to perform it live at that funeral as well. I will never forget how much Vince struggled trying to make it through this song at George Jones' funeral. To Vince, George was not only a great country music singer, he was also a close personal friend and Vince had a terrible time trying to keep from crying. He was not successful. God bless Patty Loveless who tried her best to help him through .

@hitandruncommentor4 жыл бұрын
Okay, I’m saying this earnestly. Men can’t show our emotions, less the world attacks us, strikes at the weak points. And if we do just let our emotions rip, we’d destroy everything because we live on a world of glass. Lastly, a man earns his tears, why? Because if we didn’t we’d never stop crying; the world is unbelievably cruel when you are a member of the “expendable” gender.

Billy, I have been a fan of, and followed your channel for quite a few years. I have never really had the words to express how I feel about a reaction - and then there was this song. My mom and I lived together for 44 years - for the first 25 years she took care of me as here daughter and then for the next 22 years I took care of her until she left for me for her Father’s arms. I had this song played at her celebration of life. I replaced every “Son” for “Mama.” I just had want you to know how much your reaction impacted me. I especially was thinking of not only family members you may have had to say goodbye to but your military brothers. Love and light to you ❤️

I can’t hear this without breaking down. Vince has an amazing voice and he is an amazing guitar player too. Another amazing Okie. We sure have a lot of good musical talent come out of our state.

The song Angel Flight will have tears flowing. My husband served our country and thank the good Lord he made it back to me and our children. Much love prayers and total respect to all that have served. Especially to the families of the fallen. Much Love and prayers to those families and thank you all for the sacrifice.

This version is tough, hearing him sing it at Geroge Jones memorial was toughest he couldn't finish the song.

I'm crying with you man. Flashing back to so many memories of when my papa passed. The tears are flowing.

Played at my mothers funeral along with "I Hope You Dance". 3 weeks later my Dad died. My world has completely changed. It's been almost 3 years and I still grieve for them as if they just died. I love you Allen Collins and Ruby Harrell Cross! Yall took a great part of me to the grave with y'all. But it's ok, I like the thought of still being close to y'all. That part of me can rest with you two, and I dont ever want that part back.
