The foolproof version is to use a yellow ink after the red undertone and the light tan highlight. You can't cover too much with it and it's glorious.

I was looking forward to these once I heard about the donation for Tyler. Love this format but also understand why it is an incredibly rare piece of content due to the scope. I love how every step is broken down but skills and techniques that can transfer to any paint scheme are highlighted (e.g. the use of a limited palette). I wonder if you could expand on that piece of content and do other videos along those lines such as "(whatever the proper name for the limited palette is) for Basic SCE/whatever other faction" or maybe color theory around if you chose this as your primary color this is how you go about choosing those select few other paints. Keep up the awesome work and love the cliffhanger at the end!

4:36 have had great results with mixing about a 50/50 mix of AK ultra matt varnish into my inks. That way I save a step and I also don't need thinner for either. The end result is still a bit satin (which I like), but that can be easily tweaked by altering the ratio.

The Hobby Cheating videos have certainly improved in presentation, style and humour over the years. I think a big change came after you had Jon, Scott and Sam over for a week-end. I like how you how talk into the camera at the start and those funny little intermezzos. Good humour on that "so you think you are done?" Best Regards Peter Rasch Lageri, Denmark.

I never thought of using free-hand patterns to break up a colour on the armour. I have 60 bestigor with Tau Light Ochre armour which I dabbed with a sponge to create some rust underneath but even with that, the burnt orange is quite strong. I was wondering though what patterns would fit a BoC army, I doubt they would be the kind of race to go for intricate patterns.

@@VinceVenturella Hey man far as I'm concerned they're top notch amazing infotainment. Any new take is really valuable, like doing the yellow. I'm planning a wood elf army. I want to get a "sunlight shining through the canopy" look for the cloaks. I'm thinking thinking zenithal prime red, orange, white, then yellow (ink?), then the green as a contrast type glaze (ink again?), finally a deep blue oil for the shadows and a warm white oil for the highlights. I could do with your guidance. Am I thinking about this right?

For the "edge highlighting for free" drybrushing, what surface finish is best to just catch the edges? matte? satin? gloss? I worry something too matt and the drybrush will leave paint on the flat areas, and too gloss and the edges will spill over off the edges with a streaky look
@VinceVenturella
@VinceVenturella 5 ай бұрын
Doesn't really matter much, it's more about the softness of the brush and the amount of paint. A little satin can help a little, but you can do it with any.

Vince: "watch me get a whole army done in a week" Me: "watch me do a whole 10 Necron Warriors in two" Out of curiosity, do you thin your varnishes when using them through the airbrush? I've got AK matte varnish for my airbrush but I honestly just never get around to using it out of trepidation of getting the settings/consistency right and then just keep spending money on spray cans instead.

Master Vince... I have been using the Vallejo Varnishes (also looking to order the AK ultra matte soon) but they really want to frost up when fired through the airbrush. The instructions say to use water but folks online say that the water is what causes the frosting, they recommend airbrush thinner for it. Even so it still looked like it was trying to go frosty just enough to de-saturate some color. How do you thin it to avoid this?
@VinceVenturella

Never use water, it's absolutely the water. A few drops of thinner is all you need. That being said, ultra matte is what you need.

Hi vince, great content as always! I have a couple of quick questions.. 1 - is the streaking grime stage interchangeable with an oil wash? Or does one have more benefits over the other? 2 - what did you use to create the base texture effects? I love that dry/cracked/arid/burnt Earth look but not sure what the best product to use would be Thanks as always!

1) Sure, it just takes longer to dry. 2) Just some Vallejo Basing paste and some citadel crackle martian ironearth.

Hi vince, im in the middle of doing this same army and was wondering how you did the flesh and hooves on the goregruntas? i could not spot this in the video (unless i missed it). ive watched this 3 times now and its what got me motivated to paint these ironjaws.
@VinceVenturella
@VinceVenturella 2 жыл бұрын
So the hooves were just simple brown to white straitions (I have a video on bone straitions). The Skin was a little bit of airbrush work with pink skin to ivory mix and then a very light wash of reikland fleshade.

@Vince - Sorry, final question! I'm at the yellow step now and at 5:20 you say "yellow white" for the highest high points. Is this just yellow ochre with white? Or, is it an actual paint colour? Cheers!

Do you thin down the starship grime any before spraying it through the airbrush? Or just lay it down how it comes from the pot?

When you do a contrasting undercoat like this how much of it do you cover with your base coat ie the yellow here? Do you still cover the base completely, or do you still leave a bit of the undercoat in the shadows. It looks like that is what you do, but I haven’t tried it myself and it’s such a different concept to me
@VinceVenturella
@VinceVenturella 3 жыл бұрын
So the answer is 80-90%, I leave a little of lower color showing, through though you can put a slight yellow glaze over it.

The yellow content in the off white will be a warmer shade and help bolster the yellow I'm thinking. That and it won't tint the red beneath towards pink like a pure white would, and instead tint it more towards orange.
