I got a little female back in june and she's a sweet little thing. She's like a little princess cause she likes to be tong fed and she neatly rearranges her enclosure. It's naturalistic enclosure so she has plenty of places to dig burrows and climb, and it's amazing just watching her make these lovely tunnels under the driftwood in her tank. She's putting the final touches on her wintering burrow because of course it must be perfect for her XD

I raised a house centipede from a very early stage, less than a centimeter in length up to adulthood (over an inch) for a few years. It was an awesome pet, very active and fun to watch. It eventually got sick and died, I think because I was feeding it with caught insects in the house mostly, and pesticides probably eventually built up in its body. I can’t recommend them highly enough. They are creepy to look at at first, but once you get used to seeing them they are amazing to watch, I have seen them jump and catch moths out of the air before like a cat.

I had something similar with a wolf spider (I currently live in Germany and they have a smaller species of wolf spiders here, I don’t know their proper name tho) which I catched under a drinking glass. At first I wanted to throw her out, but then I fed her with flies which I put into the freezer first, so they would hibernate and then later wake up in the spiders little box. Unfortunately she died rather soon, I think it might have had something to do with the flies I was feeding her, but she preferred them over the relatively large crickets my geckos get.

I have had mine (2) for about 9 months and while I like them I rarely get to see them. Somehow I missed the hibernation part in my research and now am concluding that the recent drop in temperature might be sending them to their tunnels for the winter. I am going to assume that they might have started hibernating and stop feeding unless I see them actively searching for food. Thank you always for your comprehensive information! PS. I was sprayed once and only felt a little itching and a pinkish spot between my fingers where the skin is more sensitive. It lasted a few days and healed with no further issues.

Curious about whether you check on them during their hibernation period. I was a professional zookeeper for 15 years and we brumated a lot of snake and lizard species for several months at a time. However, those species were all fairly easy to check up on, on a daily basis. You could open an enclosure and assess how the snake/lizard was doing. However, something that burrows is a lot more difficult to assess how it's handling the brumation/hibernation period. Also, if they're voluntarily undergoing this seasonal torpor, is it triggered by keeping them cooler later in the year, or perhaps varying photoperiod? I know with many snakes/lizards, they typically need a gradual cooling and/or change in photoperiod (gradually shorter days), in order to stimulate the brumation/torpor period.
@Aquarimax5 жыл бұрын
Velo Celt Once these go down into hibernation, I try to leave them alone, although once when I thought they had been down too long, I checked abdv they had molted and were doing fine. I am not sure if it is mostly temperature or some internal mechanism that triggers hibernation in vinegaroons... my animal room does vary about 10 degrees F between summer and winter. 👍

I remember the Fear Factor show I watched when I was a kid. They made the participants eat the whip scorpions alive (not the same species as this one but they look intimidating). It was really hard to watch and I could see them really got terrified. Oh my god how can people eat these arachnids alive? it's really terrifying to me.

I freaking love scorpion like creatures, but this one in particular is not dangerous to keep right? Like, they wouldn't attack a human as quick as they would with their prey?
@Aquarimax5 жыл бұрын
These are generally pretty safe. Avoid getting the spray in your eyes, and wash it off just in case if it does spray you. I have never had any real problems with them.

Do vinegaroons also hibernate if they are kept inside where it's warm anyway?
@Aquarimax5 жыл бұрын
5mnz7fg Yes they do, although not every year.

Do somebody know why my vinegaroon just made a hole to live in it and cover the entry with soil?
@Aquarimax4 жыл бұрын
carlosalanSPfan that is a pretty common occurrence. It is fairly late in the season for hibernation, but It is a natural behavior.

@@Aquarimax oh thank you, i was just wondering because i haven't see him in four days and i can't feed him if he is buried, and i don't know how long can go without food or water
@Aquarimax4 жыл бұрын
carlosalanSPfan They can go months without food or drinking water, as long as there is sufficient moisture in the substrate. 👍

Do they pinch or bite?
@Aquarimax4 жыл бұрын
They can theoretically pinch, but I have never been pinched,
@kimberlygabaldon32605 жыл бұрын
I've heard they had nasty bites, though. I knew a guy who told me that he got bitten by one, and he said that he smelled and tasted vinegar for days on end. Maybe he remembered incorrectly and was actually sprayed?
@Aquarimax5 жыл бұрын
Kimberly Gabaldon the later scenario is more likely. 👍

What if it’s your first invertebrate? I want one but I’ve never handled invertebrates besides spiders I found in the house
@Aquarimax5 жыл бұрын
Rainbow Ho-Oh This would not necessarily be my first recommendation for a new invertebrate keeper, but with good preparation it could work. I would recommend meeting one or several in person first, so you have a chance to learn how to handle it.

Do they bite ?

Tomsawyerspit I have handled mine many times and never have it been bitten or pinched. Sprayed, yes. Bitten, no.

How often would you feed young ones. Mines about 1.5 inches.
@Aquarimax4 жыл бұрын
ally Last is that including the telson , or just the body?
@Lastally014 жыл бұрын
Aquarimax Pets I believe just the body. When I bought it it was from US Invertebrate auction,from Facebook. The description just gave me that size. They said they were feeding medium red runners,but idk what’s comparable to other feeder sizes;etc Dubias or crickets.
@Aquarimax4 жыл бұрын
ally Last they can handle insects that are fairly large in comparison to their body size, but I would start by offering a cricket about the size of the pronotum and gradually work up from there. With young ones it would offer food twice a week.

I'm trying to decide between an Amblypygid (tailless whip scorpion) and a Vinegaroon. I want both, but which first?
@sebastianortiz18413 жыл бұрын
Same here brother, I am getting a vinegaroon first because I live in the South West and I think they are easier to take care of. Yet tailless whip scorpions cost less. I would say get a tailless whip if your into sub-tropical animals.

@@beezneez6596 That's cool. They sell 15 - 30. I might get my arachnid in August. Which arachnid do you recommend?

Both are fantastic...the vinegarron will burrow a lot, the ambly will probably hide a lot and is generally more skittish.

@@Aquarimax Thank you for the information. I was wondering which one is more easier to hold, the vinegaroon seems to be the better option for me.
