Yep...the DK show was the first show to be amimated with motion capture, and the computer generated effects in the 1993 Super Mario Bros movie actually were groundbreaking, and revolutionized computer effects by creating tools that were used in many other movies afterwards.

So glad Vin reacted to all the songs I grew up with. Didn't grow up with the last season where they changed the model art/animation which I'm curious if he'll react to those also. But for as weird as hell the lyrics are in some of these songs there are some super underrated hits and I'm glad they get more and more recognition. I know Vinny will never read this but I hope that one day he learns that emo's progenitor band in Rites of Spring released their seminal work in 1985. Nirvana is NOT a fucking emo band lol, but emo definitely predates this. The Promise Ring's Nothing Feels Good, considered a kind of touchstone in the genre of that era, was also released in 1997. Emo hit the mainstream in the 00s but it existed before then.

I found a comment on an article on RetroJunk on this show from the late Erika Strobel, who was one of the head writers, she explained that the show's French producers were really insisting on the songs and the Canadian crew had no idea why, but she felt the song writers did a great job regardless. She also said that had there been another season they would have done a Christmas special and that the original writers for season 1 had to be fired and their scripts rewritten because they kept putting in really dirty and apparently racist and sexist jokes that weren't appropriate for kids. She also said that despite the show's mixed reputation, she loved working on it and had there been another DK show she would have tried to write for it as well.
