Seconded - Skullmonkeys is every bit as ambitious and has the same outstanding art direction with an even better soundtrack, though in terms of gameplay...whether or not it actually lives up to that ambition is kinda up for debate. (Personally? I think the actual platformer gameplay is a step back from EWJ2, which it arguably compares to most directly.)

@@Pepperpotater That's actually not the reason for the hall of records, though it does give some insight on the name. When Hoborg made the world the game takes place in, it was originally the "Everhood" as it was made from the Klay of Highest Quality that would never wither to age and would last forever. It's not actually mentioned on the wall, but it can be assumed that once Klogg took over and made it so that the Everhood would never be finished it came to be known as the Neverhood instead. The wall itself is actually almost literally like a bible for the universe the game takes place in. It starts all the way at the creation and is narrated by a Jesus-equivalent. God gave him seven crowns with part of his power to do with as he saw fit, and he gave them to seven of his creations, Hoborg being only the sixth (Willie and Bil were made by the fifth, Ottoborg, who is only seen in paintings and statues in the game). The others that were given crowns made an absurd number of creations. The universe above and below the Neverhood deep within the void is full of countless things. One chapter of the wall goes deep into the Skullmonkeys, which are the topic of the sequel to the Neverhood, Skullmonkeys. Most of the chapters go into incredibly fine detail on inconsequential characters that never appear in any way, but it's interesting that their stories exist at all.

This is one of my childhood favorite games, and seeing Vinny get to the bridge, knowing how much fun he was having with it all inspired me to go back to it and finally complete it. It's a shame that even now, it hasn't been picked up for GOG, but the good news is it is readily available on the internets, and with a bit of ScummVM, it works perfectly on modern systems. I implore anyone who is into weird and kooky games like Hypnospace Outlaw or Hylics, go check this game out. Oh, and go play Armikrog if you really wanna play more of it and you don't care about the quality.
